Rumour: GTA V is based in real world Los Angeles, and features "incredible" actors and contributions from modern R&B/hip-hop stars. CVG reaction: This is a particularly interesting one. We've heard the rumour that Rockstar's finest features a block-by-block real world depiction of modern day Los Angeles from more than one heavyweight source, and an E3 reveal in the very heart of the City Of Angels would be a real showstopper from Rockstar. (More on that through here). Meanwhile, the amazing music line-up is reportedly on a par with anything Hollywood's managed to attract in the past few years, whilst the acting talent is the best ever seen in a video game. Step forward, Mr. De Niro? However, the biggest question isn't whether the real-world L.A is part of the game, but whether Rockstar will choose to unveil it at E3 at all. For that to happen, the developer would likely have to choose a platform holder's conference to show off its killer title - but which will it be? post Posted June 1, 2011 Share Posted June 1, 2011 sounds like they're getting confused with LA Noir -- should we be disappointed if the next GTA uses pretty much the same map? i guess half the groundwork is already done.. although the same can be said of Rio, where the Max Payne 3 is based. i'm skeptical. A recreation would be odd seeing as it's in the GTA universe and the fact that it's already called Los Santos. However I would still prefer it to Vice City. I still believe if it's set in L.A. it will not be called ''Grand Theft Auto: Los Angeles'', it'll be called ''Grand Theft Auto: Los Santos''. Los Angeles (and Miami) do have a lot of potential, if Rockstar decides to make the map big enough with a lot of different places. I want an E3 announcement! This news made me want it even more! Block-by-block? Do you have any idea how big Los Angeles is? Well, of course it's big, but Rockstar will want to include various parts of LA that aren't so close to the city - like the Watts Towers - or the harbor - and Venice Beach. I mean it's like New York but with even more things to spoof, Hollywood, western culture, celebrities etc. Crime rate is also pretty much the same as NY I believe. It's this and the addition of contributions from stars that just make me think this is a load of crap. It's one of the more credible rumours we've had, sure, but that's probably due to the source and the amount of information we've got. Also, is anyone a little suspicious about the "real city" thing? They have had about 6 years for the next GTA and if their work is not good as I expect it I will buy the game only after months for a discounted price. But I think even R* can't disappoint their fans so much, so I think the next GTA will be set in LA, too. Not with real names like Los Angeles or real cars, but the typical R* copies. A real world would be better - no doubt - but they have to get a license for every reserved name - that's a lot of work and I don't want to wait again several years until a possible release. This very well could be misinformation/viral marketing on Rockstars or CVG part. I just dont see them going back to LA for the 3rd time. (If they do they will have to have a young mexican as a lead player ) "Welsh monk/cult leader/yoga teacher", a "weed evangelist", a "swinger" and - top of the pops - "an ugly but comfortable mellow Californian divorcee". I think many of us feel that surprise, excitement and originality are things Rockstar haven't really achieved since San Andreas. So I want to see Vice city as the next game and then San Andreas the game after that. I listen to all these rumours and keep them in mind but until an announcement god knows what we could see.
