TLaD Ending Discussion

Recommended Posts

blitz

Before I proceed, there will be many spoilers in this topic so if you do not wish your ending to be spoiled then get off this page immediately. I doubt spoiler tags will be used as you have been warned. Have a good day.

Anyways...

I thought the ending was kind of... stupid. I understood the whole killing Billy and all but I don't get why they just burnt the whole place down? I really liked the clubhouse, you know? And then I was stuck with the other safehouse I didn't really like sneaky2.gif

So what were your opinions on the ending? I felt it could have been better and that they left some loose ends. Everything wasn't very well explained in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I'm just talking about the ending not the whole game so don't just attack me and tell me that TLaD was the best game ever or something.

Thank you wink.gif

Couldn't be a better ending for TLAD, but u'r right with theburning safehouse, I liked it to, because u had everything in there.

I"m sorry but you are wrong. Spoilers follow

The only remaining members of the Lost are Johnny, Clay, Terry and Angus. The Lost MC died. Therefore, it was only fitting that they destroy the wrecked (remember Ray's goons smashed it up and that would be hard to clean) clubhouse. It represents Johnny's aspiring ambitions have died, and that his brotherhood values had betrayed. Johnny said throughout the plot "Lost forever" but that phrase is no longer true The final scene is the four of them watching the clubhouse burn, and that was good enough for me. It pretty much summed up their anger and despair poetically and without words. They never left the Lost. The Lost left them.

If you mean in a gameplay way, then I suppose. You can't watch TV or some other things that I've forgotten. I think R* should have added all the features from clubhouse into Brian's safehouse.

thanks for reading biggrin.gif

I both agree and disagree. Beware of spoilers.

I partly disagree because on a story stand point it was a very fitting ending given all the internal troubles within the Lost. And as AceRay stated, it got trashed by the mob anyway. So on a story stand point, I felt it added closure to the tale when they "put it out of its misery."

But on a gameplay stand point, I agree with you. I really liked that clubhouse as it was much better than that crappy house you're stuck with in the end. The clubhouse had a working tv and PC, as well as a pool table and that card game and an arcade. So on a gameplay standpoint I wasn't happy knowing we lost (no pun intended) all those safehouse features, and we even lose access to that card game altogether. So it wasn't a very rewarding ending for me on a gameplay standpoint.

I do wish they had given us access to the Uptown Riders clubhouse as an alternative or something though.

I guess I had to consider that, AceRay. You're right in a way. I totally forgot about the Ray part biggrin.gif .

@sonnyBlack I also wanted access to the Uptown Riders Clubhouse or at least another cool one. Maybe start again?

But I'm guessing that would lead to a whole 'nother story.

Non gameplay wise: They had to burn it down for obvious reasons (to many bad/sad memories, hardly any Lost MC members left, place smashed up by Ray's goons).

Gameplay wise: An alternative clubhouse should have been opened up with the features that the Lost clubhouse included (pool table, card game, other games, computer, television etc.).

Only the Alderney chapter of The Lost died. There's also the Broker chapter Niko fought with, although we don't know where their clubhouse is. Even after the story you're always able to get more brothers for gang wars. The Lost is probably larger than Liberty City because it's based on real-life MCs that have national or international reach. There are probably Lost chapters in the GTA IV era's Vice City and San Andreas and other cities. Even if Alderney was the mother chapter the others will go on. It would have been good to have the Broker clubhouse in the game to provide the features of the Alderney clubhouse after the story.

The Lost Clubhouse is still accessible after it’s been “burnt down”. The clubhouse can easily be entered by getting onto the rooftop and standing a few feet away from the TV antenna at the north edge of the building; at that point a message pops up saying Press (whichever control you use) to watch the TV. Pressing that control puts Johnny inside the Lost Clubhouse, which, oddly enough, is completely intact and not burnt down.

Here’s a list of things that can still be done inside the Lost Clubhouse after it’s “burnt down”:

1) Play CUB3D.

2) Watch TV.

3) Play Pool.

4) Use the computer to access the internet.

5) Collect the weapon-spawns earned from the Gang Wars.

6) See several other Lost members inside that are apparently trapped inside forever.

Here’s a list of things that cannot be done inside the Lost Clubhouse:

1) Play Hi-Lo Cards.

2) Arm Wrestle.

3) Save the Game.

4) Exit the building normally. All three exit doors are locked. Killing Johnny is the only way out (that I’ve discovered). Of course reloading the game can be done too.

It's meant to be viewed in a poetic sense. But in a more literal sense, they might be throwing Ray Boccino a bone. "Look, we're done for. Just let us go in peace." There may also be the question of the feds, prison investigators, the whole legal system - how were the Lost supposed to avoid questioning for Billy's murder when they're drawing noise complaints in the middle of Acter? I think they all agreed it was time to lay low, and if they were going to leave the life completely, it was time to get rid of all the scarring memories.

True enough but that's a glitch. According to the story ending the clubhouse is gutted and there's probably not supposed to be a trans-dimensional portal on the roof.

Unless Chell has been there

I thought the ending was cool personally, and felt Johnny would have simpy upped sticks and left town.

Well, is there a way to get out? Cause there's this GTA IV glitch in which you can enter the bank but to get out you need to commit suicide dozingoff.gif

So do you have to die in order to get out of the safehouse or can you just walk out the door and then BAM! The door is locked forever and Johnny stays locked out monocle.gif

I have two saves, one is complete and the other just missed that last mission, so I didn't mind losing the safehouse when I played the game.

Theres spoilers ahead in here if you havn't beat it so i don't want to ruin anyones experience.

After completing GTA 4 about a week ago i was wanting to play more so I downloaded the Lost and the Damned and played through it. The ending with the prison i thought there would be a cutscene between Johnny and billy but you just go there and kill him, nothing really in depth. Also I thought that Johnny and Ashley would somehow get together and she would kick her drug habbit, i called her and she just asked for money for drugs. LatD could have been a pretty good story if it wasn't for the weak ending. Also i wish we would have known what happened to Jim aswell. Is the Ballad of Gay tony any better because its more expensive on the marketplace and after the Lost and the Damned im not sure if I want to buy it.

Jim was killed while being chased by Niko in the GTA IV mission "No Way on the Subway". There is confusion about this because Rockstar did not use the same character model for Jim in both games and the two look nothing alike.

TBOGT isn't perfect but it's very good.

I thought the ending was one of the best, it really showed how everybody needs to grow up at some point and just can't do what they did when they were younger due to age and the changing times and new and upcoming gangs. plus it showed how a life of crime doe'nt always end with being rich and powerful, but rather losing your friends etc. and yeah as posted above me jim was killed by niko on the subway this is also mentioned on weasel news.

Don't get me wrong, the story was good. You can't expect the biker gang to go on forever, some people in there were pushing 60 but it was just the ending that bothered me. I was expecting a great build up to a finale conflict between billy so when i got there and there was no cutscene explaining why he did things or his side of the story I kind of felt there was no real depth to the ending. The bar burning down was okay but I never really felt attached to it, if there were more missions that took place in or around it I would care about it but there weren't so when they torched it i just didn't really care

Also I was expecting some ending with Ashley and Johnny but i guess they didn't want a cheessy story so she stayed on the drugs

The only character i really cared about was Jim, you got more backstory on him and did the most missions with him and then you only learn through a cutscene That he died

I only really got TLaTD because it went down to 600 MS points on the marketplace and they still want 1200 for The ballad of Gay tony which i don't think is worth it. I honestly didn't like GTA 4's story too much and TLaTD was pretty good but I hope TBoGT is what im really looking for.

I just finished the missions (and now playing mini-missions). The storyline is great, killing Billy, Brain, hating Ray, forgetting Ashley. It is such an awesome storyline. Too bad the club closed down, at least he got his gang clothing.

I feel sad that the storyline is over. How about you? How do you feel when it's over?

meh, opinions. I thought the scene with Billy's confrontation was really well done. They said a lot by not saying much at all. Johnny is so angry with him that he's practically shaking and all Billy can say is "Checkmate" and smirking sarcastically, happy at Johnny's anger. Its like Billy's final punch in the balls to Johnny, not explaining why. It just makes him a real big scumbag.

About the Ashley thing, the reason they kept her on drugs is because it makes it more tragic for Johnny. He's beaten the bad guy but didn't get the girl, cause she's a junkie. It shows how much Johnny has to leave his old life behind, like in the email where he tells her to never see him again. Ashley has broken his heart many times before and I don't think he's ready to have his heart broken again.

And about Jim; the reason they used a different model in IV and TLAD for him is that they wouldn't spoil TLAD in IV. Yeah, okay, his name is used on the weasel news report, but people who weren't paying attention (like me) wouldn't have noticed. I also think he was killed in IV because then it makes the player think about all the supposedly minor characters that Niko kills in IV. When you kill Jim in IV, its like "so what, its just another guy". But in TLAD, his whole life is revealed and makes him a real character, not just some guy. He had a family and a life. Remember Teddy? Chubby Charlie? Oleg? Think about their lives. They're just like Jim, but they didn't get a DLC. So it makes the game more in depth. Replaying GTA IV a few months ago, when I played through the mission where you kill Jim, and I realized what I was doing to Johnny and Ashley and all the rest of them. Then I realized, when I killed Teddy and Oleg or whoever that I was probably destroying other lives in the process. What about their families? Niko never finds out about the damage he caused but Jim dying in TLAD gives insight into it. It gives the game a lot more depth, you know?

As for TBOGT, if you like all that over-the-top SA sh*t, then you'll probably like it more. IMO, BOGT has the weakest story. Luis is a prick and all the characters are either clowns or tools (except for Tony). Its as though R* felt they needed to please all those SA fanboys and it doesn't really keep with the serious tone of IV and TLAD.

IMO this was better than IV and TBOGT, I love the metal and biker scene first of all, but I also got emotionally attatched to the characters, the ending of this game was fantastic. Absolutely loved this game.

When i realized Jim was the one who i killed as Niko i felt like "oh sh*t!!!"

I remember Niko making fun of that actually, something like: "was that the E train?"

And about BOGT, i agree the story was stupid, even Bulgarin instead of being portrayed as what he was, a bad-ass big time Russian gangster, he appears as more of a bratty teenager stuck in an old mans body.

The missions were a lot of fun though.

I think it was R* being smart about Jim.

The missions were fun, but the storyline was crap. They ruined Bulgarin entirely, he was like a rock n roll junkie rather than a threat. Not to mention Armando and Henrique were really f*cking annoying. I don't get why Luis would go back to jail for those two, its ridiculous. And Luis doesn't really have a spine, he was just Tony's b*tch. There was no development. I could go on all day listing what was wrong about the storyline

But I do agree that the mission were a lot of fun.

I thought the portrayal of Bulgarin in TBoGT was very funny, in a darkly comic way: based on IV, you'd expect him to be a badass gangster in some mansion or fortress surrounded by flunkies and floozies, yet he lives in a middle-class neighbourhood, and doesn't seem to be able to get a girlfriend (based on his attempt to get Luis to pimp out one of the workers at Maisonette 9, and the fact he lives with his sister). He's the one character who seems to be in control of his own destiny, but it doesn't do any good for the quality of his life, and all his attempts to gain power and wealth either fail (e.g. the diamonds) or don't really pan out (the football team).

As for Luis being Tony's bitch, with the possible exception of Bulgarin, everyone is someone else's bitch in TBoGT; Yusif, for example, wouldn't survive a minute without his father's money. Also, in the end, almost everyone depends on Luis at some point.
