finally did what I thought was impossible

I've always gone for the flying rats later in the game after all islands have opened. this time I've decided to tackle them island by island as they open. This was mainly due to the fact that at least a couple required a heli to get to it. however, I found a way to get pigeon #26 near shottler station (gtaIV.net map). this may be old news but it was quite an accomplishment for me, having always had to heli my way up there. Now, I need to find a way to get to pigeon #30 ( airport tower). at this point in game, sniper rifles haven't been unlocked, though the AK has (lot of good it does me that far up). I tried climbing the stairs on side of tower, but that didn't work.

 

I've completed the story missions 100% (IV, Tlad, and BoGT) several times without cheating (other than players tips and maps) and I don't intend to start now. So, Please, I'd like any intelligent helpful response. Snce I discovered one pigeon I thought could only be accessed by heli on this island, it stands to reason there MUST be a way to get the airport tower pigeon also?

Have you tried the RPG?

Can you swim to that island north of Algonquin to get it?

I don't know if you will get 6 stars or not.

That's the only way I can see to get it.

Can you get the other one at the airport in that little circle that you usually need the sniper for also? Where you shoot from the train station tracks.

Other than getting the helicopter, that's the only way I can see to get it.

both of those pigeons at the airport entrance I got on the same run. drove a box truck up to the structure where that pigeon is hiding, used pistol to take out the one on the security gate, then threw a grenade into the hole. 171 pigeons left in Liberty City. I'm not ready to attempt crossing islands early until I've exhausted every other effort. thanks for the reply and suggestion, Captain. still waiting for a more viable solution. It just seems there really should be a way to take out all the flying rats in broker before unlocking the next islands. Not having the use of a sniper rifle, rpg, or heli is only a setback, as far as I'm concerned.

If you intend to get all of them from the beginning then you might as well go over to Alderney and get a helicopter, sniper rifle and RPG's. The helicopter can be stored in your parking spaces.

Personally I simply started with the ones in Alderney and worked my way back.

obviously you don't realize, the sniper rifle insn't unlocked yet (they won't spawn in their locations) and even if I make it to alderney, the helicopter won't spawn yet, either..... I've tried shooting a heli pilot to steal his chopper, (used the box truck to climb up to the terminal roof) but the chopper slid down and crashed....bummer

 

looking like the rpg from north algongquin is gonna be my only option....unless someone knows another trick?

The Mavericks in Alderney DO spawn from the beginning.

Also the sniper rifles in Alderney and Algonquin do spawn from the beginning, - only the Dukes/Bohan ones are disabled.

The RPG's also do spawn from the beginning, they're all in restricted 6* territory though.

Yes, you can go get the Combat Sniper Rifle before Algonquin opens up!! I quote BradyGames strategy guide...

#25 Hatton Gardens, Albany Ave...On the Stunt Jump rooftop dome of the Liberty City Community HQ. You get an automatic 4-star wanted level when you enter the premises.

 

ITS NOT EASY the first time or two...you get a 6-star WL of course crossing over on the Algonquin Bridge PEDESTRIAN PATH. Know the one?!

Get a FREEWAY motorcycle, once across either go to the road and turn right OR turn right into the Ped walkway right before road...its the police complex right there with the statues with their arms raised!

If you know the Stunt Jump, Cool!! Drive the Freeway all the way up to the dome, dismount, LOSE HELMET, I cant make Nico do a RUNNING jump up the SIDE of the doorway at that dome with it on. Get rifle, then use the jump and pedal your ass home to savehouse!!

After a few tries its actually a piece of cake, barring bad luck, once your back across the bridge cops way far away.

I've done this many times WITHOUT SHOOTING ANYTHING for a master start file and some of my gameplays. Have some fun and Good Luck!

Gta Phreak, thanks for that update, I'd assumed as it was locked on broker, it'd be locked everywhere else, too! I've been to algonquin helipad, tho, and there were no heli's, and the heli at the Booth tunnel also didn't spawn. I'll try the heli in the westdyke helipad, tho, (hadn't checked that one)

 

Punknoodle, You've taken me to school once again! I knew about that combat rifle, (didn't know it would spawn early, tho) and I've never had a problem getting up there for the stunt jump (gonna be tough with 6* right from the get-go though)

 

thanks guys, gonna give this a try, (heli's keep blowing up on collision, after shooting out the pilot)

Edit: Gta Phreak, I owe you an apology, the heli was on the booth tunnel helipad this time! (now safe in Bohan, even tho its not a safehouse yet)

I didn't want to resort to crossing the barriers, but there was no other way I could find if i'm to finish the diseased pigeons island by island as they are unlocked. the sniper alone wasn't powerful enough to do it alone, the heli did the trick, tho.

Actually, I believe the Maverick on top of the me-TV building also spawns from the beginning (the one that gets replaced by the Annihilator after exterminating all pigeons). It is however only useful as replacement since it never spawns when you go up by the platform.

 

Personally I prefer the sniper rifle on top of the apartment block in SW Alderney, once you get the heli.

that rifle IS much easier to obtain, for sure, but not nearly as much fun! And, with 6* you'll probably lose your heli along with your life getting it. Its the one I always pick up first once Alderney opens up. With the combat sniper rifle in algonguin, you "may" lose your life getting it, but not much else! Thanks again for all the tips!
