Lars46
Why some people would choose to live this way is beyond me. Yet another example of how scriptural literalism can be dangerous. It's interesting what dogmatism can make people say, and even condone. Christian fundamentalists like this are the only people who absolutely scare me. NaidRaida
Every kind of fundametalism could be dangerous, not only religious. But I wouldn´t care a stupid facebook profile much.
sivispacem
This isn't a very good discussion thread, I have to say. Regardless, fundamentalism is something I'm quite interested in. The head of my department is a specialist on Islamic Fundamentalism and Radicalisation. For the most part, fundamentalists are pretty harmless. Yes,they're a mild annoyance, but they exist for all religions and many groups outside religion, so the best thing to do is ignore them- don't give them the time of day, and they will eventually bugger off and bother someone else. However, "every terrorist has been a radical, and every radical a fundamentalist". In some cases, I feel that it is prudent for the security services to monitor the activity of fundamentalists- as they are the most prone to further radicalisation. That said, the radical Christian underground are for the most part harmless- the same is not true of radical Islam, which aims to unseat liberal democracy and replace it with Islamic theocracy; or Anarchist/Socialist/extreme right/black power/white power radicalisation or fundamentalism, which all pose varying degrees of threat in various countries. sivispacem
secular humanist fundamentalists like the OP scare me. they don't even realize what they are. All forms of radicalism and fundamentalism are by their very definition wrong. If they were not, they would cease to be radical or fundamental. Mr White0161
Don't take any of what I say the wrong way. But I believe religion is just wrong. Yes it is good to have something to believe in, for example I put all my faith within Joe Pesci and Jimmy Page. Religion has turned away from what it used to be all about, that or it hasn't changed we are now starting to realize some of the madness. This is the definition of Religion from Webster's: The outward act or form by which men indicate their recognition of the existence of a god or of gods having power over their destiny, to whom obedience, service, and honor are due; the feeling or expression of human love, fear, or awe of some superhuman and overruling power, whether by profession of belief, by observance of rites and ceremonies, or by the conduct of life; a system of faith and worship; a manifestation of piety; as, ethical religions; monotheistic religions; natural religion; revealed religion; the religion of the Jews; the religion of idol worshipers. Today religion is all about power, greed, and manipulation. The way I grew up in Catholic school we were to worship "God", praise "God", so on and so forth. But now that I'm older I see it's not really about "God" anymore it's about money, greed, power. To be completely honest I'm with George Carlin when it comes to religion. Is it bad to have faith? No not at all. But is it bad to have too much faith? Now that is one I think we should all think about...
sivispacem
Ahh, but then you're making the mistake of tarring all religious organisations with the same brush. Whilst the comments you make may be true of, for instance, the Catholic religious hierarchy, they are difficult to apply to religions such as Islam, which despite being very hierarchical, has a very complex structure with no defined leadership above the level of Mullah. Or how about a religious organisation such as Sikhism that has no defined power structure at all? Yes, you could argue that some power rests with the Gurus, but do they actually use it for any kind of gain? No. AMD Ryzen 5900X (4.65GHz All-Core PBO2) | Gigabye X570S Pro | 32GB G-Skill Trident Z RGB 3600MHz CL16 EK-Quantum Reflection D5 | XSPC D5 PWM | TechN/Heatkiller Blocks | HardwareLabs GTS & GTX 360 Radiators Corsair AX750 | Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic XL | EVGA GeForce RTX2080 XC @2055MHz | Sabrant Rocket Plus 1TB Sabrant Rocket 2TB | Samsung 970 Evo 1TB | 2x ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q | Q Acoustics 2010i | Sabaj A4
GTA_Loco
Sometimes when I try to think about all these human conflicts that arise from the different political or religious principles, philosophies or whatever you care to label it, it's basically the human mentality orientation that's the root of the discord. Even if we take out all these religious or political persuasions and beliefs from people, if the human mind is oriented in the wrong way, it would always seek to sow destructive objectives. Playstation_Loyalist
Fundamentalism exists in both sides, may you be a theist, deist or an atheist. Fundamentalism isn't really a good topic to discuss, you should have pertained to religious hypocrisies if you're slamming religion. I'm an atheist, I admit it but I know I have a fundamentalist side, it's just that I don't show it in public. I'd rather not whine about stuff against other beliefs but I criticize/slam the ordeal of religion.
