JustRob
Don't get me wrong, the GTA games are damn fun. But still I'm getting so sick of them. Why? Horrible compatibility. Take GTA San Andreas. Worked fine for days and days, then I update my Windows 7 to the newest versions, and boom. It just refuses to even start. So what, am I supposed to remove my updates now and work on an outdated system to play this game? Honestly, Rockstar is horrible in optimizing for the PC. It's because of these horrible unexplainable problems that I've come to hate these games.
_Rob_
To be honest the renderware ports are great, I think it's windows that's ruining your experience there, however I agree RAGE ports have been very bad so far.
Arsen Vitiuk
I have Vista. After I update the OS, the games start running even better than they were before.

creat3d22
I know what you mean... when it came out, I got a cracked copy to see if it would work on my rig at the time. It did, and with surprisingly good performance as I didn't expect it to fare too well with my then 8800 GTS 320 mb. So I went out and bought it, and that's when everything went to sh*t. I don't remember how long it took to get it working, but re-installs came a-plenty. Eventually, it worked great. Then it stopped. Then it worked again. Then wouldn't. Mind you, no hardware/software changes caused it as one launch would run, the next wouldn't, whether I rebooted or not. No amount of optimization, proper driver replacement, etc would change anything. Patches 1 through 7 were tried, numerous times each (with complete reinstalls everytime, of course). I did manage to play the game the whole way through twice, and countless hours of random fun. Unfortunately, those were spread out in-between random crashes and other problems. Fast-forward to now, after not playing it for a very long time... I got a major CPU+GPU+RAM upgrade, good enough for any game I tried to run smoothly in 1920x1080 maxed out. I was prepared for GTA IV being a major pain and boy did it deliver! After a dozen re-installs, driver changes, defrags, etc etc it would either crash on load or give me the ugliest gfx bugs. Finally, the latest Nvidia driver (275.something) + patch 7 got it working flawlessly. Awesome! For 2 days. Now it won't work anymore, again no software/hardware changes... I just uninstalled it and put the DVD's in the trash, never again will I waste my time with this piece of sh*t of a fantastic game. Never have I encountered such an inconsistent piece of code. When your chances of a succesful gaming session are below 25%, it's probably a good indication you should move on... too bad, I loved Liberty City No game is worth that much trouble and when the developer consistently maintains that nothing is wrong with their game (yet it required 7 patches and that still wasn't enough), well f*ck 'em. Result: I'm never paying for a Rockstar game, ever again. Also, f*ck Rockstar Toronto. What do you expect from a city that goes to bed at 6pm? That's not universal, sadly.
Paulie_
I thought GTA IV was pretty boring, and it didn't even feel like New York, imo. I hope the next gta has a map similar to San Andreas.
