Sniperrrman
Hi guys I installed gta4 again after like a year, everything went well and nothing was wrong with the install. I signed in with my GFWL account. After that, it asked for an update. It applied the update in-game, then the game minimalized to desktop and the GFWL install wizard comes up. Then i get an error message saying Title update failed to install, see log I checked the log, it said this: Launching Title Update: "C:\Users\Acer\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\Updates\5454083b\Content\UpdateTitle.exe" /selflaunch /p 1a30 /r"D:\Gta4\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" GTAIV.exe Launching: C:\Users\Acer\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\Updates\5454083b\Content\TitleUpdate.msi ACTION=INSTALL REINSTALLMODE=amus LAUNCHEDVIASETUP=1 APPLICATIONROOTDIRECTORY="D:\Gta4\Grand Theft Auto IV" TRANSFORMS=:Instance1 MSINEWINSTANCE=1 Error installing MSI at C:\Users\Acer\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\Updates\5454083b\Content\TitleUpdate.msi HR:0x80070667 Path: C:\Users\Acer\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\Updates\5454083b\Content\TitleUpdate.msi Args: ACTION=INSTALL LAUNCHEDVIASETUP=1 APPLICATIONROOTDIRECTORY="Ignore" ABORTLOGPATH="C:\Users\Acer\AppData\Local\Microsoft\GFWLive\Install\Logs\titleupdate.log" RelaunchFromCmdLine: RelaunchFromCmdLine: RelaunchFromMSI: LaunchGTAIV.exe InstallFolderFromCmdLine: InstallFolderFromMSI: InstallFolderFromRegkey: D:\Gta4\Grand Theft Auto IV OriginalProductCode: InstallFolderRegkeyProp: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV Failed Any1 know what to do? Spider-Vice
Try updating manually and run the setup from the zip file provided. One of them gives an error, there are 2 exe's, if one gives an error, try the other, it's the one that works GTANet | Red Dead Network | black lives matter | stop Asian hate | trans lives = human lives the beginning is moments ago, the end is moments away
Sniperrrman
Theres only 1 exe, the other is .msi they both don't work. The exe gives the regular error: Title update failed the msi gives an error that the update failed to install
JiM-4a2c
Theres only 1 exe, the other is .msithey both don't work. The exe gives the regular error: Title update failed the msi gives an error that the update failed to install I Think I know whats going on, the installer is unable to find GTA IV. Maybe the path to GTA IV directory in registry does not exist or is incorrect.. Have you moved GTA IV to some other folder or have you re-installed your OS?? Try changing the path to GTA IV directory in the registry manually. That might help.
Sniperrrman
Checked the registry, the path to the directory is there and correct.. i did not reinstall my os, or move the directory. this is weird.
Sniperrrman
I have downloaded the patch in a zip file with the new files n stuff. I think this is legit, if not i will reinstall the game (which i already did 2 times to try to solve this issue) Can i extract those renewed patched files to the gta directory and copy everything? It's worth a try i think
JiM-4a2c
One thing you can do is create a new folder, change the path to GTA IV in the registry to that folder. The Patch will extract the files to the folder you just created and then you can move them manually to GTA IV directory.. Simple, ain't it?? I've done it a million times. Sniperrrman
I'll see if that works, because i don't know if the registry is causing this error. But i'll just try it. Edited May 19, 2011 by Sniperrrman
JiM-4a2c
Dont forget to correct the path again in registry if this works..
Sniperrrman
That did nothing, i really don't know what to do now anymore. Why do the customers have to fix these errors? Anyways, i guess i'll just copy over those files from the zip file i've downloaded and overwrite the files in the gta directory. it probably won't work but it's worth a try. mkey82
Here is an extracted update http://www.4shared.com/file/sHL0ym0_/GTAIV_patch_7.html Just extract the archive into the game folder, overwriting files. You'll need the latest winrar or 7zip to unpack.

You'll need the latest winrar or 7zip to unpack. I tried this, unzipped and extracted the files. When i start up the game it says ''Gta IV.exe has stopped working." I tried different compatibility modes (Windows 2000, windows xp sp 2 < when i try that one it says i need sp 3 or higher to proceed) Ran as admin, didn't work also. I tried launchgtaiv.exe too, doesn't work. Any ideas? Thanks. EDIT: I tried xliveless, didn't work. Edited May 20, 2011 by Sniperrrman

JiM-4a2c
You might have a problem with OS.. Have you tried re-installing it?
Sniperrrman
I'm sorry, i'm not going to reinstall my OS as i don't have a second harddrive to xfer my files to. Not going to reinstall it for a game anyways. Rockstar did a really, really bad job coding this game. I'm reinstalling the game for one last time now. If it doesn't work, well f*ck it. This game should work.
