WelcomeToLibertyCity
I'm thinking of upgrading my PC soon to be able to run GTA IV, and I was wondering how well it will work for the settings I will achieve once upgraded: CPU: Pentium® Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50GHz Processor: 2.5 GHz Performance Rated @ 3.75 GHz RAM: 2GB OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 Video Card: nVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT 1GB I've looked up some reviews and videos on Youtube of people running the game on similar settings, but I just want to be sure. yoječ
With that graphics card, don't expect it to run smoothly on high settings. I'd say more like low-medium settings.
WelcomeToLibertyCity
Alright, good to know. Any suggestions for a better card that won't cost me an arm and a leg? EDIT: Actually, what about with a GeForce 8600GT 512MB DDR2? If I am correct this is the one "Recommended" for GTA IV. yoječ
It's more or less the same as 9500GT. Personally, I'd look for at least 8800/9800GT (if you want to buy used card).
Exxon
What about the GeForce GT 220 or GT 240 I had the GT 220: It'll run the game on medium-high settings (more at the medium settings), using not too high resolution Although, I think it's about the same as the 9500 GT And what about the GTS 250, it's slightly better than GT 220 I gues and it's about the same price Edited May 18, 2011 by Exxon
yoječ
Both GT220 and GT240 are worse than 8800/9800GT. GTS250 on the other hand is somewhat better than 8800/9800GT, but its price isn't really that competetive.
Exxon
Both GT220 and GT240 are worse than 8800/9800GT. I see. I just looked at the specs Edited May 18, 2011 by Exxon

Does the 9800 GT require external power supply? External as in an additional pci power plug? Yes it does, a 6 pin. Id suggest getting a 6770, which is a couple of bucks more over a new 9800GT and offers more performance and supports DX11. Make sure your power supply can support an additional videocard, or sh*t will hit the fan. If you do have a good PSU, OC that CPU more ,you will see a much better performance gain from CPU OC than a new videocard.
FF_sniper
wth people tell him the truth top end 590 rigs have performance issues with gtaiv his card is equal to a console graphics card its fine with pc games that are optimized/not pos ports. WelcomeToLibertyCity
Maybe you guys misunderstand what I am trying to achieve here. I am not looking to have a beast version with maxed out everything. To be quite honest I am fine with something that runs on medium settings, or to achieve graphics similar to that of a console version. If I understand from the post above, with those settings I will be able to get what I want out of this, correct?

WelcomeToLibertyCity
I have a 500 watt PSU, though inside there is no available cords to plug into the back of a graphics card for external power. My budget is at the most $110 total.

Prometheus
I honestly have no clue, I didn't check for any brands last week when I was inspecting my goods. Do you have the 6pin connector?
WelcomeToLibertyCity
No, which is why I was going to go with the 9500 gt.
Prometheus
No, which is why I was going to go with the 9500 gt. OK, i'm not %100 sure about this, it is just a recommendation.... Since you are in Canada, I searched for video cards that are in sale there, here is one: ASUS GeForce GT 440 Fermi People say that it doesn't need external power, But i'm not sure, i'll check, also it is exactly $110 w/ shipping BTW In what res do you play? Prometheus
Ah, nice. Appreciate the help! Your Welcome! One last thing, It does not need a 6 PIN connector (External Power)! Edited May 19, 2011 by PrometheusX
YankeesPwnMets
This is also another possible option. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...2-935-_-Product
yoječ
Or this card, which is much faster: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814102878 Yes, it does use two 6pin connectors but it comes with two adapters.
unc13bud
i have used adapters before without issue, but that wass back in the days of the first molex graphic cards. if a power supply doesn't have to pci-e power connectors as standard, it probably isn't supposed to run these power hogs of today. i have silverstone st50ef http://www.anandtech.com/print/2697/ and neo he 550 http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/printpage/A...pply-Review/361 and neither of them could run the gtx 285 without errors ie: all i did was swap the power supply out with corsair tx 750 http://www.anandtech.com/print/2655 and the problem (video resolution errors) vanished anyway, newegg has some gtx 460 still http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814162058 $99 + shipping/ar? beats anything else on that range
