Kid325i
So having PSN network be down for a few weeks, I was unable to play Cops N Crooks for a while. Prob the longest hiatus I've had from that game mode in quiet a while. I was recently talking to a buddy about it, and he said something along the lines of "Man, you still play that sh*t? That game is like 5 plus years old!" which is true. That kinda got me thinking as to whether I've ever enjoyed a single video game more w/o getting bored of it. Really can't say that I have. I buy Madden and NBA2k every year as I am mostly into sports games, but that is mostly for new rosters/ features etc. I have been playing Cops n Crooks pretty much exclusively as a game mode on GTA since I found out about online play. I remember reading a description of this game mode in some GTA review and I remember thinking how cool the concept sounded. As soon as I played my first game I was f*cking instantly hooked. For the record I like All for One, a LOT more than One for all, so all points made are relative to that game mode. And I am bored at work, so please don't give me sh*t for this. I just figured I'd spell out a couple reasons of why CnC is pretty much the greatest game mode of any video game EVER: 1. The variety. You really can't beat it. EVERY single game is different. Between the variety of spawn points and the general free flowing nature of GTA, no two games are alike at all. One game can be a straight up car chase, another can be an intense shoot-out, another could be a foot chase, another could be a combo of all 3. There is really not any set dictated way a game is gonna play out, it totally depends on who is the boss, how good his team-mates are etc. 2. The intensity. I played a round last night, 4 on 4.........the Crooks spawned at the top of Algonquin and the getaway was the boat down at bottom of map, near the office park area. One of those games where the boss just gets in a car right away and guns it for the getaway. The guy driving him was pretty good, and myself and another cop were trailing in 2 diff cars. The driver went through downtown Times Square, weaving through a lot of diff side streets and doing a good job driving evasively. There was about a block or 2 in between the cops and the boss for the whole chase. Finally as they get to the boat we roll up right behind them, and they have just gotten down to the docks, running towards the boat. A pretty intense little shootout ensues, ending with my partner dead, and me killing the boss just as he lands a kill shot on me. Not an especially unique round, but as I landed the last shot, with the whole intense car chase/shootout that had just ensused, my heart was POUNDING in my chest. Just an example of how intense these games can get 3. Did I mention the variety? I can't get over this...........esp when playing with other good players (level 7s and above). I f*cking love the fact that games can be an outright gunfight/chase.......or they can be wayyyy more strategic. I remember one game a while ago, with like 6 v 6, all high level players.........the getaway was the same as in point 2 above, the boat at bottom of Algonquin. The cops went straight for the getaway when the game started, so they had it all camped out. Snipers on Statue of Liberty island, covering the getaway..........Choppers on the roofs with more snipers......like 3 guys on the ground. Meanwhile the whole crook team stocked up on weapons, and got a few choppers. I forget how it ended but it took like an hour of flying choppers to different sniping spots, snipers taking out each other, the boss having to be evacuated out of a danger zone like 17 diff times. It basically became a whole different game, mostly involving choppers and sniping spots, rather than the usual car chase/ Rifle battle that can happen. Its just amazing how different one round can be from another. I don't think you can find this in ANY other game. 4. The combination of different types of gameplay - I guess file this under "variety" too lol, but its just amazing how much goes into this game mode. You HAVE to be good at driving, and you HAVE to know how to have a strategic gun fight. You have to understand weapon ranges, the cover system, have to know the quickest routes from point A to point B, how to use good team shooting tactics, how to drive and shoot. A lot of thought can go into this game mode and co-operation and coordination can be really helpful. As opposed to a mindless shooter like COD, where its just "run around and shoot people" OVER and OVER and OVER..........you have to really be good at a number of different things for this game mode. The variety of terrain that Liberty City provides really enhances the play experience, b/c there are just so many different places to hide/make a stand. I will try and add more points later, as i actually have to do some work now. I guess this just comes off like some gushing admiration of the variety of this game-mode, but really it is that variety that makes this the most engaging and interesting and replayable video game mode I have EVER played, while growing up playing lots of video games my whole life. If they don't have this mode in the new GTA i am gonna be PISSED. Please add reasons why CNC is best game mode ever, b/c those who play it often know this is true

A J
it's same as username here - ajbns87 CnC is great because like you say its never the same game as twice, always different. Nothing beats the feeling of just about killing a boss in time with a sniper when he is sailing away in his getaway.
ZDANZ96
5 years old game but theres lots of people that still play gta IV (some just joined after the downtime ) I also like C n C, it looks like tdm with cops and is cool in the fact of having 2 modes of play that game type... Jimbatron
I like All for One because playing as a team is all important. TDM, and TMW to an extent, you can get by with individual brilliance and little co-opperation. If you've got a team of good players on the cop side, you've got to work together to keep the Boss alive. On the PC, situations like 3 occur a lot. An even if there Crooks take the getaway, there is normally a pursuit by boats and helis - we've had some epic sea battles recently when the getaway boat has been move. As Boss, I've lost count of the number of times a team mate has rescued me from a hot zone with one of the Alderney helicopters when the getaway is not safe. I've sent a message to R* mouthoff enquiring about the future of CnC, but no response. Wouldn't hurt I guess for Xbox 360 and PS3 fans of the mode to do the same if anyone is up for getting some stength in numbers. I hope they realise what a gem of a genre they came up with here. TDM, Capture the Flag, and Turf War type modes are good staples, but they are hardly original. CnC is unique.
A J
Its an ace mode, I've read rockstar describe it as a "fans favourite" so I'm quite sure they're aware of it's overall popularity, I just hope in the next GTA installment, that it is there, and they dont change the formula too much, sure they can make it better in a lot of ways (More getaway respawns, Indestructable getaways, No AA, No glitches), but the simple premise "boss gets away" to win, but cops "dont know" where he has to get to is great, its unoriginal and sets it apart, thats why we all love it. I hope they keep the random cop spawns, the radar settings the same, the All for One mode has a whole, and include parachutes in the mode ! For me before GTA was released, I was super hyped for this mode reading about it, I also met so many cool people from playing it too, just a pity most of them moved on from it, including myself at times... but unlike any other game mode I'll keep coming back to it. Totally agree. They may want some innovation, but I think the best way to do that would be to include them as customisable options - in effect, so you can restore the classic CnC settings if you desire. I was thinking it might be good to have an option to make the getaway vehicle indestruticble (e.g. you can still kill people sat in it, but the round can't end because the cops have found it and cowardly destroy it. Our regulars never do this, but when we open matches up to non private it can be a problem).
Kid325i
Agree with above, but no need to take AA off. I prefer AA on, to each his own. Keeping it as an option is fine. I agree that more spawn points would be nice, but its almost kinda fun knowing where the getaway is and to camp out there. As long as you don't move or touch it nothing wrong with that. But indestructible ones would be nice. I agree also with above point about being excited about this game mode before even playing it. I read a review on GTA online and this game mode just seemed like a really good idea. The concept is so unique and its really just an amazing game mode, Rockstar would be REALLy foolish to ditch it next time around
A J
AA on? nothing lamer in my opinion, hiding on corners, using only the m4 , f*ck that. Disallow is where the fun is at Kid. Getaway destroying doesnt happen that much on ps3, it used to, you get a few occasional glitcher now, normally french. On the ps3 though, CnC has transformed into too much of a teamdeath match at times, with corner shooting being used a lot, I dont mind these games, but there's no enjoyment in doing it this way all the time, back in the day when it was a crew of us doing it against a lot of noobs it was fun, bit of a challenge and I used to enjoy trying to help the noobs against friends, but now its a matter of running to the getaway is considered cowardly. I'd just like the mode to have completely unpredictable getaway locations, maybe even multiple ones. Cops are then forced to just go for the boss and crooks, crooks could act as decoys if cops chase them and not the boss, and camping wouldnt be such a problem, yes those games are fun but I think its a cheap tactic unless you outnumbered. toplad
Damn, I wish I was on PS3. I absolutely love CnC but haven't played for a couple of years because it's hard to actually find a game with people over the age of 12, who don't want to just ruin the game.
