Creed Bratton

Tyrion and the Hound are obvious favorites though. Tormund is only beginning to shine now. I hope they don't kill him off because of that.

As for Littlefinger's arrival. It's Littlefinger. The most devious character in the show. Are we absolutely sure that his plan all along wasn't to wait until the end when both armies have been all but massacred? Maybe he had scouts observing the battle.

yeah maybe.

and maybe Gandalf should've just summoned those giant eagles to carry them all the way to the mouth of the volcano from the very beginning ;)

like I said, I wish I was more familiar with the geography here.

Sansa is hiding something else she would've told Jon the night before.

Felt, to me, like they were implying that Littlefinger was a longshot, that there was no confirmation that he'd arrive, and yeah, Yokel's point makes a lot of sense. If it were possible for him to use the battle as a distraction to get men in place, then waiting for the right moment seems very Petyr indeed.

Also, he is now pretty much the only guy with an army in all the North.

so like I said 3 years ago: Baelish is just playing everyone and he's pretty much been consolidating his path to the throne from behind the scenes since the end of seasons 2.

gotcha ;)

It seems obvious he's going to ask her to marry him in the finale, but question is whether she rebukes him? Is he actually Lord of Winterfell now since it was the Vale's army that defeated them in the end? I don't believe the North will stand behind Jon, they have no reason to believe he was ressurected or anything but a deserter of the NW, so without Bran everyone will be vying for Sansa's hand like Lady Hornwood in the books.

If he's lord of Winterfell isn't he also the Warden of the North?

But didn't Rob legitimize Jon Snow way back?

Anyway, HBO had just released an alternate version of the battle. I didn't expect something like this until the DVD was out. It's only slightly different:

Tormund's much like Edd, in my opinion. A secondary character, who's kind of just... there at first, but before you know it, they creep up on you and suddenly they're your favourite. How and why? Just sit back and accept it.

tormund.gif

In the books he's an instant favorite. They didn't really make him as outgoing and humorous at the beginning in the show. They've made up for it with the Brienne thing.

Didn't sansa send a raven with a message out to an unknown person and episode or 2 back. I think that was to littlefinger, hence why he had time to make his way to battle with his posse.

But best episode to date, thought the whole season was going to be a flop. Battle was good, both of them. Sweet sweet revenge. Guess it's time to kill off a good guy now.

*Sansa seems awfully pleased about the situation they are arriving to, with the Vale Army. And disappointed when Jon surfaces, alive, from that awful mess, to race after Ramsay.*Where are did all the Bolton men go?*Where did Harald Karstark go? He was shown at the start of the battle, then never again.*Why did the Bolton men inside Winterfell not shoot at Wun Wun and co until after he already started knocking down the gate. f*cking hell.*What kills Wun Wun in the end? An arrow to the eye.*Why does no one shoot Ramsay when he is shooting arrows at Jon?*Jon wants to take care of his brother and see that he is buried in the crypt. Sansa literally doesn't mention him at all and instead goes to imbibe in some revenge.*I guess there's some sort of poetry in Ramsay being eaten by his dogs but that too was incredibly unsatisfying. Jon should have just killed him. f*ck Sansa's revenge.

Just a bit of nit picking, as you seemed to run out of justified flak at the end.

  • The look Sansa gave when Jon emerged was, to my eyes at least, one of utter malicious joy at the mere thought of what was about to befall Ramsay.
  • All the Bolton men got bowled by the Vale's cavalry.
  • Mr. Karstark got eaten and stabbed in the face by Thormund.
  • I'm guessing, but I reckon they were too busy pissing their pants, him being a flipping giant and all.
  • Poor Wun Wun. :(
  • He gives his men the universal look of "he's mine".
  • As indicated by her aired concerns when she and Jon spoke before the fight, she had already accepted Rickon's impending death a long time ago.
  • The only mistake they made regarding Ramsay, was that they didn't flay him and pissed in his wounds before they fed him to the pups.

That was umber that Tormund stabbed and bit. Karstark was that short haired dude that was next to Ramsay during their meet and greet

I agree with everything else you said though :)

Kartstark was probably just killed somewhere

Daym, you're right. :colgate:

Say what you want but Ramsay was badass in this episode. Even if he was a total prick.

Loved to see Ramsay as a brilliant tactician; the guy could go toe to toe against the Lannisters if he hadn't been thwarted by the meddling Sansa and her creepy uncle Little Finger.

This triggers me so much.

A brilliant tactician would never forfeit one of the most defensible castles in the seven kingdoms, to fight a pitched battle, not once but twice. He's only looked half competent as a commander on account of writers turning Stannis into a brain dead moron, then Jon taking leave of his senses.

He paid for his folly, though. :D

in reality he should've been trampled to death. that's what was happening. how he miraculously pulled himself to the top of the pile after being too crushed to breathe is some easy-mode writing on D&D's part. while the battle was fun, I wonder if that's how GRRM would have wanted this crap to go down in the books. Rickon's scene before the battle was pretty dumb and Sansa's timely arrival gave me flashbacks of the Giant Eagles from Lord of the Rings which just swoop down to save the day every time you need them to.

The battle for winterfell has yet to happen in the books, but it's going to be fought under a completely different set of circumstances anyway. Won't go into spoiler territory though unless wanted.

What should have happened when Sansa turned down Littlefinger's initial offer, is that she should have gone directly to Sweet Robin and just circumvented the former.

For someone who's playing the game, like she is atm, at least. IMO

But didn't Rob legitimize Jon Snow way back?

Pretty sure that's books only.

Oh yeah, for sure. I was a little disappointed about that at first, but I guess they didn't know how to write him that way while there was still quite a lot of wildling characters competing for screen time.

I think in TV world he said to Lady Catelyn that he wanted to make Jon his heir should anything happen to him, and she put up a fuss about it, but I'm not sure it was ever mentioned again or if the people who supposedly knew about it are even alive. So he was never officially legitimised with a parchment like Ramsay was (or so we are aware).

There's postings on the fansites that there was apparently a casting call for a "fat nobleman who makes an important speech" and that it could be the Manderleys making an appearance? Would he know anything of Jon? I can't recall if we've ever had them mentioned in the show?

I hope we see a conclusion to Tower of Joy in the finale, I'm half expecting it either to be the opening scene or the final scene.

They've been name dropping "Manderly" a lot this season.... thats exciting news! Pie, anyone?

Was a Manderley in the second season as an advisor to Bran as steward of Winterfell? Or am I mixing that up with the books? It's been a long time since I've read that book or watched that season.

Outstanding episode, with Hardhome the series best and its crazy how far television has come (10 years ago an episode like this would seem impossible).

I didn't like Jon Snow that much in the first few seasons but since S5 he has been really growing on me and he was an absolute badass this episode.

Kit Harrington has been nailing the role. Don't care if this ep was predictable, its like some people only watched GoT for the shock value and the "good" guys dying.

I'm going on media blackout until I get home from work tomorrow and watch it, don't want to spoil a thing... It should be a good episode with how long it is and the title being the same as the next novel, I have high hopes, it just better be satisfying considering it's probably the last full season we're getting!

Any body count predictions? :p

My prediction is that this'll be the finale with the highest body count to date. At least 4 or 5 named characters that have appeared in more than one episode + however many nobodies.

I just hope Meera survives. She's one of the few genuinely nice characters and Ellie Kendrick is fantastic.

Called Cersei. Looks like Jaime killing her is for next season, though.
