Bran can glimpse at events through time. Little Sam is so powerful, he simply exists outside of time itself.

Should I start watching this show?

Haven't watched any.

watch the first season ... then take it from there. its worth a watch. this season has been a little bit poorly executed [like other saying]... but try it.

OT: its true that they should have gone into depth with the whole siege, but cause dannys back it could well be dragged on with a battle. read somewhere online that apart from the stark/bolton dance, there'll be another. im hoping this is it.

with the reference to lyanna's 62 men. i think this is unique to the fight. my take, be it far stretched:

the 62 fighters are significant, maybe special breeds. they'll do alot of damage, not sure how. starks army will face heavy losses, and close to defeat, with jon and a few hundred left. davos lights a fire on a mountain to signal something. epic sh*t will take place, and starks will win with heavy losses. Ramsey will be on the run with his close aids. balls in hand.

this is optimism at best.

Leaks from a certain magazine suggest that;

The Greyjoys will be arriving to save Meereen in the next episode. Although it's unlikely they'll even be needed tbh. At least Dany will get her ships. Perhaps she'll be ditching Meereen and heading to Westeros in Episode 10 finally??

I might be slightly over-hyping myself for bastardbowl, but I can't bloody wait for tonight's episode. I'm going to stay up late and watch it tonight since I'm on the night shift at work tomorrow. It should be great hopefully since the it's directed by the same guy who did Hardhome. Gotta be a win for the Starks, right? but who is going to die...

I'm tempted to do that, Kirst; episode 9 is always decent.

Anyone that has HBO Go can watch is in 12-20 minutes!

Edit!

f*ck yeah! Ramsay is finally dead! I loved the scene when his dogs bit his face. I only wish they showed all of it. It still brought justice to everything he did.

Amazing direction and cinematography this episode. You could really feel what it was like in a battle like that. Absolutely awesome episode.

RIP Wun Wun. As one of the top posts in Reddit said: Some giants held the door. You smashed them down.

I was hoping it would have been Ghost who finished Ramsey off at Sansa's command. His own dogs was pretty sweet too.

Is this The Guy?

. That f*cking pile of bodies man, wow. Ramsay getting fed to his hounds, totally satisfying.

I'd also like to give a special shout out to Wun Wun. RIP you fought valiantly my friend

I don't know how anyone is f*cking with Daenarys now.

She has a khalasar horse army. She has her infantry with the unsullied. She has her dragons patrolling the skies. She has a fleet of ships captained by the iron island folk. She has her own private jet. And she has some elite fighters with Daario, Grey Worm, and whenever Jorah returns. Go and get your crown my queen.

Ameizing episode. That battle was a cinematic epic. It went from medieval chaos into a hoplite phalanx which is something I would commend for the enemies' tactics despite how much I hate Ramsay Bolton. I was also shouting my lungs out at Jon for decimating Bolton's face into a pulp. The whole episode itself was simply grandeur, from the dragons followed by the allegiance to the bastard battle where the loser gets a taste of his own torture medicine. 10/10

Although I have to point out why Rickon didn't even hint at going serpentine while running from Ramsay's arrow. Was a direct shot from a short distance? Or just camera work creating that illusion of where it cuts ahead of the frame?

Mhmmm. I surely enjoy this episode, probably one of the best.

Final-f*cking-ly that Ramsay is dead, by his own hounds! RIP Wun Wun though :( He was great during that battle

Best character death since Joffrey I guess...?

Welp, that was about as unsatisfying as I imagined it was going to be.

Unpopular opinion, but whatever.

Edit: Cool cinematics though, I guess?

Mereen

*Almost every part of Tyrion's role here would have been better served by a BARRISTAN SELMY that was still alive.

*Why on Earth would you not have the Iron Fleet arrive and attack the besieging fleet? So that Dany n co actually have a reason to not only meet with, but entertain their offer?

*Speaking of which, that entire throneroom dialogue was so f*cking awfully written - show writers can't do female empowerment to save their lives. No reason to trust or believe them, but is going to because hey, another female Queen-that-would-be like me being oppressed by men and specifically evil dads so we've got to stick together. The caveat of course is you have to have to abandon centuries upon centuries of tradition for the assistance even though Dany needs them more than they need her, probably. Or that Dany leading a Dothraki army to Westeros is much worse than Ironborn reaving.

*To round it all out despite the direction of the rest of the scene, laughably, Dany requires Tyrion's approval before agreeing. Why? Tyrion should be lucky he still has a head at this point but eh, whatever.

The Battle of the Bastards; AKA people liked the Battle of Blackwater so we're going to rehash that and throw some LOTR inspired moments in for good measure

*Sansa still doesn't tell Jon, at any point, about the Vale army. Stupidity which costs hundreds of men their lives.

*Speaking of which, how does NO ONE on either side know about the Vale Army? You could almost forgive Jon's side being clueless but there's no way this army takes Moat Caitlin then rides all the way to Winterfell without Ramsay knowing about it.

*That parlay not being a trap is out of character for Ramsay.

*The wooden stag toy of Shireen's somehow surviving the fire, lol.

*Rickon being brought back solely to die is narrative weaksauce. It was obvious but they could have at least done it in a way that wasn't dumb. Yes, run in a run straight line after realising what Ramsay is doing. Don't zig zag. Don't hide behind one of those flaming crosses because Jon's coming to get you. Nah.

*Why doesn't Ramsay shoot at Jon at all during this sequence.

*Why does Jon decide to be a f*cking idiot by attempting to commit suicide after seeing Rickon die. Did he forget he was in a battle? That he had an army to lead? Nope, gotta make Jon look dumb so when Littlefinger Gandalf's the battle of helm's deep bastards, Sansa looks good riding along side him.

*Where are the Manderlys in all this.

*Using Wun Wun as regular infantry is retarded as f*ck.

*Where is Ghost? On second thought, probably a good thing he wasn't on screen. Wun Wun got done dirty and they'd probably have killed Ghost off as well, like every other direwolf because f*ck them and the Starks for that matter.

*This mound of bodies literally makes no sense. That's not how this works, at all. It's like someone told D&D that this happened at the Battle of Agincourt but left out all context and how it came to be.

*Why are Bolton men fighting like Romans.

*Sansa seems awfully pleased about the situation they are arriving to, with the Vale Army. And disappointed when Jon surfaces, alive, from that awful mess, to race after Ramsay.

*Where are did all the Bolton men go?

*Where did Harald Karstark go? He was shown at the start of the battle, then never again.

*Why did the Bolton men inside Winterfell not shoot at Wun Wun and co until after he already started knocking down the gate. f*cking hell.

*What kills Wun Wun in the end? An arrow to the eye.

*Why does no one shoot Ramsay when he is shooting arrows at Jon?

*Jon wants to take care of his brother and see that he is buried in the crypt. Sansa literally doesn't mention him at all and instead goes to imbibe in some revenge.

*I guess there's some sort of poetry in Ramsay being eaten by his dogs but that too was incredibly unsatisfying. Jon should have just killed him. f*ck Sansa's revenge.

If I gave enough sh*ts to analyze this show to such an extend I'd probably hate it too. But then I'd probably hate everything. Your expectations are TOO DAMN HIGH!

I'll tell you one thing though

Wun Wun being completely unarmed in such a large battle served only one purpose. To make the Bolton army an actual threat. There's no realistic reason why Wun Wun couldn't have had a big shield and a big stick or something that he could have used to just slaughter the f*ck out of everybody in a few large swoops.

In my defense, I've known the plot line of this particular episode for almost a month(sp?) now. That's a long time to stew on it; especially when I thought it was an elaborate troll at first. :p

I could have summarized in a single line, sure, but that's not nearly as cathartic tbh.

Just a bit of nit picking, as you seemed to run out of justified flak at the end.

  • The look Sansa gave when Jon emerged was, to my eyes at least, one of utter malicious joy at the mere thought of what was about to befall Ramsay.
  • All the Bolton men got bowled by the Vale's cavalry.
  • Mr. Karstark got eaten and stabbed in the face by Thormund.
  • I'm guessing, but I reckon they were too busy pissing their pants, him being a flipping giant and all.
  • Poor Wun Wun. :(
  • He gives his men the universal look of "he's mine".
  • As indicated by her aired concerns when she and Jon spoke before the fight, she had already accepted Rickon's impending death a long time ago.
  • The only mistake they made regarding Ramsay, was that they didn't flay him and pissed in his wounds before they fed him to the pups.

That was umber that Tormund stabbed and bit. Karstark was that short haired dude that was next to Ramsay during their meet and greet

I agree with everything else you said though :)

Kartstark was probably just killed somewhere

Some fair points.

  • *Sansa being pleased at that doesn't really make sense though. Jon's survival at that point is irrelevant to whatever befalls Ramsay. The way Sansa has been written this season lends pretty strongly that she's only really in it for herself. Not overtly but the choice of words have been there in past episodes. That's what I was getting at, rather than it being a nitpick/complaint. Mixed signals, and all that.
  • *The way it was filmed, at least to me, made it seem like only part of Ramsay's army broke off to form the shield wall and the rest just vanished. It happens, I suppose.
  • *That was Smalljon Umber, not Karstark.
  • I can understand that angle, but no one else seems too bothered by his presence. But eh, I can let it slide.
  • I get that, I do but just a totally unnecessary risk.
  • Just personal preference, but I'd of preferred ye olde Stark justice as opposed to Sansa stooping to Ramsay's level (and especially in that fashion).

edit: this guy? beat me to the punch, bastard :p

great episode except for f/cking stupid Rickon and his f/cking stupid death scene.

ONE MAN firing ONE ARROW at a time.

if you just turn around you could dodge that sh/t as easily as catching a baseball.

Dodge the arrow? Is he the matrix? How is he even going to see the arrow? You forgot how scared he would have been. The thing that was hard to believe was when they led you to think that Jon Snow was going to die but then the army marches in and both armies clash. Like how the f*ck did he perfectly stay in the middle and not get crushed in between..

Yeah, we were both yelling at the TV for him to WEAVE, RICKON, WEAVE!

I allowed for his panic, though. This is not the first time Ramsay's sent someone off running for sport. sh*t's too terrifying to be smart, after a certain point.

Anyhow, Coin, I do think you're being a weeeee bit nitpicky, and I'd point out that calling Jon out for single combat at the end sort of required Jon to comply by honor. Anyhow. I had my own nitpicking, and spent a while looking up the entymology of the term 'full tilt' before I learned to stop worrying and love the GoT. Also, the carving fell out of her hand and out of the flames; not sure when the last time you burned someone alive, but there's always something incriminating left behind.

Great episode, just cartoonish enough to be fantasy, and the crush of battle at the end actually had me feeling claustrophobic. I almost thought Jon was a goner again, too. Loved to see Ramsay as a brilliant tactician; the guy could go toe to toe against the Lannisters if he hadn't been thwarted by the meddling Sansa and her creepy uncle Little Finger.

Tormund's much like Edd, in my opinion. A secondary character, who's kind of just... there at first, but before you know it, they creep up on you and suddenly they're your favourite. How and why? Just sit back and accept it.

I'm not even going to try and identify anything "bad" about this episode because it was an amazingly filmed and produced hour of television, the crew involved don't deserve any criticism because I was entertained and in awe at some of the shots for it's entirety. Sure some of it may have ended predictably and we've had issues with dialogue and omissions of certain details all season, but wooooooow, the opening in Mereen and the 3 motherf*cking dragons...I was just so happy and I don't care what anyone says about it! The interaction with Yara and Theon may have been a bit forced but I actually kinda liked it, only because it feels like everything is coming together and Danaerys will actually finally be on her way to Westeros very soon, maybe in the finale?

The main bastardbowl was packed full of action and had me on the edge of my seat, I would have been clapping if it wasn't so late in the night. I don't think it'll be any easier for them even now they are home, so it'll be interesting how they are going to play this out and what Houses will realign with them since there is no "proper" lord there right now, and there's still the impending white walker invasion to come. Rickon was signed off for a while, I don't think his death had a major impact on us as viewers, but I could feel the rage of Jon after that. Did they have to remind us that Shaggydog is dead? ;_; I wished it was Ghost that tore off Ramsay's face, but I guess his own hounds doing it showed that he had well and truly lost. We just need Arya to get a raven and head back with the Hound in toe.

Preview for the finale, is that a white raven heading for Winterfell?

yeah no, Tormund is not suddenly my favorite character, but he's always been cool.

that honor is still reserved for Tyrion and the Hound. they've been my favorite characters pretty much since the end of season 2.

I also thought they were gonna' straight up kill Jon again.

in reality he should've been trampled to death. that's what was happening. how he miraculously pulled himself to the top of the pile after being too crushed to breathe is some easy-mode writing on D&D's part. while the battle was fun, I wonder if that's how GRRM would have wanted this crap to go down in the books. Rickon's scene before the battle was pretty dumb and Sansa's timely arrival gave me flashbacks of the Giant Eagles from Lord of the Rings which just swoop down to save the day every time you need them to.

I'm not familiar enough with the timeline or the geography of Westeros to understand how poignant (or stupid) that was.

could the Vale cavalry have been that close? to have gotten word in time? did Sansa send for them like weeks ago? and I missed it?
