W.o.w. That episode from Sunday was amazballs. Really getting a sense of the threat the others are for the entire realm....

If the WW conquer all, does Essos fall?

The Others themselves might not be able to reach Essos (no one knows) but the Long Night affected all of PlanetOS, so regardless they wouldn't remain unscathed if Westeros were to fall anyway.

I'm a bit tired of people deeming this and that to be "unnecessary". It's like when GRRM stepped to the side, every joker on the internet tried to take his place as Monday morning director. Besides, we'll never know what was truly unnecessary until the show and books are all finished.

Even worse is people throwing around 'gratuitous' every time a nipple is hinted at. It's 2015, not 1515, and I hope no one here is 15, because some folks need to get over their "sex is icky" phase. You're not intellectually more mature because you scoff at titty scenes.

well said.

sex sells but it's not even like the show uses sex very often, at all.

but the moment it's there all these trolls come out the woodwork with their old memes about HBO being nothing more than sexual violence. first of all, it's not. second of all, even if it were, that's pretty much par for the course on Western television. GoT is not special in that regard nor is it any more gratuitous.

PlanetOS

I'm sorry what does the OS stand for?

Nothing, except emphasizing the naming theme. Westeros, Essos etc.

Its a fan made up name. Used as a joke related to the naming of Essos(east) Westeros (west).. the OS end.

Finally caught up. Yet ever so lost. Can't help but feel like the book and the show are going to follow different trajectories or.... GRRM had better swallow his enormous f*ckin pride and hire a team to get ahead of the game. Jesus.

Anyhow, fun fun fun. Love the sandsnakes. Actresses could have, you know, some muscles, but obviously they were cast for T&A. Like Jon Prettyboy Snow.

I'm a little confused about timelines but that's OK; accepting the show as its own beast now. Was cool to see Valeria, even if it was way outta nowhere. Really, really, really, pissed about Barriston. Confused as to what the f*ck's going on with the bannerless men.

...looking forward to Robert Strong. ;)

It would've made sense for Obara to have muscles I'll grant you, but not the others (this is based on their book descriptions).

"Valyria" was just a disappointment. They should get just called it the Rhoyne like in the books (not as if the average show-viewer cares about the geography). Valyria is supposed to be a mythical place that nobody returns from, replete with mystery, not a bunch of forgotten ruins with a few stone men thrown in.

Euron says hi. I think the rumors are mostly psychological and people are more afraid of the myth rather than the lands themselves. Rodrik the Reader seemed unimpressed by ol' Crow's Eye's boast, which may (or may not, I'll give you) indicate that he's learned through his studies that it's not THAT big of a deal. The Doom is described like a volcano eruption, and those aren't typically known to last 305 years. Yet, the "gambler"/Braavosi insurance broker from episode 8 is still convinced it's treacherous.

I can't help but feel this was another instance of the show spoiling the books. One of the big themes in the series is how rumors and prophecies are not always as they seem. That's just my theory, though. Could just be combining locations for the sake of brevity, in which case, continue bitching.

Rodrik the Reader was skeptical of Euron actually having done what he claimed to do. It's the Westerosi equivalent of me coming along and boasting I'd spent the previous night with Natalie Dormer.

That's not to say there isn't merit in the position. The reality is probably a middle ground of a sort, though I'm certain that the area is still plagued by volcanic activity even if not on the scale of the Doom itself.

Anyway, I actually liked the visuals of show Valyria. It was definitely the Sorrows in all but name though.

That's what I was trying (but failing) to get at. The scene itself was good, but it just wasn't Valyria.

"Modern" Valyria is meant to be the ruin of the largest civilisation Westeros has ever seen, and the descriptions of the nearby vicinity given in one of Tyrion's POVs suggests that the place is rife with magical activity.

The most recent episode (Hardhome) was excellent. It almost redeemed the butchering of Qhorin Halfhand's mentoring of Jon in season 2.

Looks he should finish The Winds of Winter before season 6 drops. Then I imagine he'll write at least one episode for season 7 as that will be the first conclusion of the story.

Pretty certain unless the show takes a hiatus (so unlikely) that it will finish years before the novel series.

I appreciate GRRM taking his time on a big book, and that he has the TV show to worry about, now. But I don't buy that it takes five years to write a book like this.

One of two things is happening. Either Martin is lazy. Probable choice. Or he's a f*cking genius, and timing the release of the sixth book with the sixth season. Imagine the rush to get TWOW and read it before watching the show. Not that it wouldn't be an instant bestseller.

Yet another amazing episode!

This seasons slow start was well worth these last two episodes alone.

I was hoping this would be the time Dany got her hair burnt off into a cute pixie cut.

When they were all surrounded by Sons of Harpys, my only thought was, Strong Belwas would've loved this.

For a second there I was half expecting that first (the bigger one) gladiator to be introduced as Strong Belwas, to throw us a bone, but nope.

Anyway, the big thing to take away from tonight's episode I think is...

Stannis burning his daughter alive is a subtle confirmation that he'll never sit the Iron Throne.

Game over, Team Stannis the Mannis.

Only reconciliation is that Stannis will not be the one to burn Shireen in the books. Praise R'hllor.
