I finished the first 3 books. and now gonna watch the show then read the rest after its done.

its a shame characters like Arianne Martell weren't cast. the most character im excited about in the show right now is Doran. im sure Alexander Siddig will deliver.

Probably better off reading up to the end of ADWD first.

Heard that the first 4 episodes got leaked online.

Very tempted to go watch the 1st episode.

Said f*ck it and threw caution to the wind, picked em all up.

I'll later regret it. :p

I couldn't resist. Watched the 1st episode.

Pretty decent. More of a reminder of the events from the previous season.

I won't post details just yet.

They broke a fair bit of GoT this season..

Sansa - wtf?! Selmy?!

& other liberties that made no sense - Arya throwing the coin/gaining entry stuff.. Ugh.

I was so happy to have it back & 4 hours of GoT to do today. But at the end of it I was p miffed.

I've done the books so had some idea what was meant to happen & am disgruntled by what has happened! Goddamn asshats.

The scene where Jamie meets Bronn was filmed about a mile from my house. I went round when they were shooting it & was so disappointed when I saw it on TV. It was such a massive production & all I got was an encounter with some surly security guards, & for what? A useless scene with 3 bloody people! Still, was nice to see it & the castle (which is unrecognisable with the cgi effects) on GoT.

Just watched the first episode. a bit slow but its expected.

Too much male nudity and not enough female to match it though. :p

Will watch the rest later. i dont wanna watch all 5 too soon and be left with nothing.

no but seriously.

y'all pirates who went and watched the leaked episodes shouldn't talk about them, spoilers or no, until after they've aired.

it's enough of a mess trying to sort through book spoilers versus TV spoilers.

if you're watching content that isn't supposed to be live, just keep it to yourself.

Is this The Guy?

I just seen that the first few episodes were on torrent and was going to come in here and mention it but wasn't sure if it was real or not.

From looks of things you all already know

I'm not going to chance it though. The last time I downloaded a few GOT episodes I got notices in the mail by my internet provider lol

Great first episode. Though I think I like it more than usual just because I'm glad the show is finally back.

Episode 1 spoilers.

Last scene was pretty good. i liked Mance Rayder. guy took it like a man. despite Jon Snow's interference.

So honest question;

Who is planning on watching 4 ahead? If it were the whole season, I would consider it, but all this will do is make me wait 4 more weeks without any new GoT...

Book comparison to Episode 1 events (spoilers... very spoilers);

Who burned?? Was it really Mance? Awesome scene though, it seemed like it was Mance. No begging and crying at the end like old Rattleshirt....

Already have. But I'm planning on watching them as they come too, because of that quality difference.

I'm leaning towards it actually being Mance, given Jon's reaction in that scene and I don't recall seeing the actor who played Rattleshirt in that episode either.

But that doesn't mean it definitely was though.

On that subject...

Episode 1 really turned Mance into a massive f*cking idiot, lol.

Wants to save his people. The vast majority of his people are North of the Wall, the only wildlings south of it are prisoners.

Gets offered arguably one of the biggest sweetheart deals in television and turns it down because... "I don't want my people to bleed anymore." Your people are f*cked without it.

"I respect Stannis." Won't offer a single, simple physical gesture to the man he apparently respects and save his people.

"The best part about being free, is I'm free to make my own mistakes." Except that it's not so much a mistake as it is paramount to utter stupidity.

So to recap, Mance turns down a deal that gives him everything he wanted for his people (and then some), preferring they die, so they don't lose his respect.

Really took a giant dump all over the character of Mance Rayder. I'm guessing they are going to make Tormund more important then... dunno

I could not resist the temptation of the leaked episodes. Now I have to pay for it with the 4 week wait to 505.

Really enjoying the season so far. Almost feels like a bit of a reboot for the series.

I got fake spoiled in the comments of an IGN video, so I forced myself to watch the leaked episodes just to see if the spoiler was true.

It wasn't! :D

I'm glad I watched the other episodes though, because they were really good. I'll re-watch them the legit way as soon as they hit a reliable service anyway.

For the sake of the thread, I'll refrain from discussing them and just wait until they air to do so.

The first episode was great. But I waited for this for a whole year so I'm not gonna ruin it for myself by watching 4 episodes at once. What am I supposed to watch for an entire month then? They've made plans to stray away from the books more so spoilers are going to be a thing this year even for the fans of the books.

So honest question;

Who is planning on watching 4 ahead?

the thought never even crossed my mind.

you know what I did when I read that the first few episodes had been leaked? closed the article and forgot about it until people started mentioning it here again. great; watch the leaked content and then wait for an entire month with nothing to do and no one to talk with until they get caught up. I don't know why anyone would do that to themselves.

first episode was very cool BUT it doesn't even feel like a new season yet.

episode 1 was basically just the last seasons' finale - part 2. they were just tying up all the loose threads that were hanging after the battle at the Wall. I expect that the new season won't really "start" until episode 2.

that being said I loved the way that Mance Rayder's story was handled.

his bad-ass, nonchalant, outward behavior contrasted with his raw, emotional, human fear of death-by-fire made for some very poignant scenes. Jon Snow and Mance's scene together was phenomenal as was his 'execution.' I also really enjoyed it when Cersei encountered the young man who she used to manipulate into doing her dirty work. and how he's changed. and how his revelations about his corruption seemed to scare Cersei even though she pretends not to believe in the old Gods.

for me, the best part of episode 1 were the talks between Varys and Tyrion.

Tyrion really seems to have given up all hope after literally cutting the ties of his old life. like he's just resigned to retire while the world burns. listening to Varys try to convince him of why he should still care was fascinating because it revealed as much about Varys as it does about Tryion and where their true allegiances lie.

cannot wait for next week and the return of Dorne!

Seems we have quite the contrasting opinions on Mance, El Diablo. :p

I do agree with the rest of your spoiler though.

I don't know what it is, but I think I've lost interest. I'm going to try to read the books to spark that interest again, but I don't feel like this show has me like the first couple seasons.

The new season is supposed to be a return to form, at least according to some of the reviews I've read. I just don't understand how George is going to pump out another brick before the shows catch up to him.

He's not. Currently he is targeting "2016" for the next book. Probably not early in the year, either.

you've probably read the books?

I haven't touched the books yet. all I know of Mance is what HBO decides to give me. and he's always had this reverence whenever he appears on screen. although to be fair I could also be attributing my affection to the actor himself.

Ciaran Hinds is an all-around gangster.

you know what, I actually started to get this glazed-over vibe during the opening 10-15 mins of the first episode.

I think we'll both be pleasantly surprised once episode two comes around and the season actually gets rolling. my gripe with the opener is that it didn't feel like an opener; it felt like the conclusion to last season. there really wasn't anything new to show or talk about. starting next week everything will start to feel refreshed.

new locations and characters.

picking up where our favorites left off.

I noticed several major threads and some of my favorite characters missing from this first episode.

I wont say anything. but it gets better after the first episode. the first one was just wrapping things up from the previous season.

That's usually how it goes. Season 3 was so much set-up, but so much pay-off.

I can't really discount the influence that the books (might) have on my opinion but..

I still maintain that the episode (as a whole) really did "Show Mance" (I guess the distinction is important) a disservice.

Don't get me wrong, I think the execution scene itself was well executed and I definitely "felt" it. Mance's reactions as the flames got hotter and closer, acknowledging the mercy Jon granted him. Tormund watching on really added to it all as well.

It's just that it doesn't make any sense for it to go down like that. I don't believe Show Mance would throw away the lives of all the Wildlings for the sake of his pride. To have fought so hard to save his people and then turn around decline Stannis' sweetheart deal, that was going to give them everything they wanted anyway, at the cost of fighting alongside Stannis in the North. A cost which they were going to have to pay anyway, had Stannis not intervened, because over the wall they'd have had to fight Roose Bolton and other northern lords to stake their claim.

So at this point, why did he even bother surrendering to Stannis in the first place if his pride meant so much to him and not the lives of his followers?

As far as characters go, I prefer Tormund anyway, so I'm hoping that this annoyance of mine will end up leading to Tormund having a more important role going forward.

Question for the book readers:

Does Littlefinger care about Sansa at all, or is he just using her to advance himself, or both?
