Anything that gives us more Beric Dondarrion is good in my book, in all seriousness though, I'm quite surprised they picked a moment like the Purple Wedding for the season's opening episodes, I mean LS is certainly a shocker, but I think that the Purple Wedding just has more of a kick to it, more build up if you will, it's not like everyone was sitting around waiting for LS to appear, whereas the events of the Purple Wedding were something we were all wishing for a long time prior to its creation.

I'm really looking forward to what route they're going to take with Arya and Sandor, in the books doesn't she leave him at the inn and sell Craven to get to Bravos? If so then it's an odd thing that they've done here, but this could be the branching off from the books hat we've been hearing for quite a while now. Oh and does anyone else think that despite how good the show is, they've done a piss poor job of building up The Mountain's character? I mean in the books he seems far more involved in the story, and you never really have to moments of absence where you forget who The Mountain is, but for people who just watch the show, I can't imagine many of them have a good idea of who Gregor Clegane actually is.

To not know what was going to happen at "the purple wedding" in this episode. I envy you people. I just want to know what you were thinking when Tyrion was being bitched out by Joffery. I wonder how many people said to themselves, "I hate him, I wish he was dead."

I posted something on Facebook demanding his death as he was kicking the wine cup away from Tyrion. I had absolutely no idea what to expect by the end. I have never hated him more than that scene, it was done brilliantly.

I think it was a great idea to have the wedding at the beginning of the season. The ramifications of Joffrey's death is really what the back end of A Storm of Swords is all about, at least in terms of what's happening in King's Landing.

Although, there's plenty going on with Jon at the Wall, and Dany in Mereen. And I could see a few scenes in Dorne to set up the Martells.

As for the Mountain, He's got to come back for Tyrion's trial. I'd absolutely love a scene beforehand with Oberyn confronting Gregor. I know the actor that plays the Mountain hasn't had much screen time, but he doesn't need to say much, just sit there and let Oberyn tell him what a sh*theel he is.

I remember in the books Sandor gets injured in the inn fight and Arya eventually leaves him to die at the base of a tree.

While I am glad that Joffrey is gone, I am kind of feeling a bit nostalgic for the old setting of the show i.e. War of Five Kings, Joffrey being an evil sh*t, Dany struggling to get by. I like where it's heading and things are getting more and more interesting but we're a long way off from where we started out and so many of the "original" characters are gone or changed drastically. Does anybody else have those feels or is it just me?

I haven't watched the TV series as of yet but I have read the books and I feel exactly the same way. The Battle of the Blackwater, Whispering Wood, Robert and Ned. Remember Gared, Will and Ser Waymar? Seems so long ago - a two-three year span between those events and current events.

Not to backtrack, but I'm re-reading at the same time....

The Thenns... am I right in that in the book they were neither cannibals nor as savage as in the show? I thought they were the most progressive of the wildlings, with democracy and all that good jazz. Am I wrong?

No. I think what they've done to them is a travesty. I really liked the Thenns in the book, and this all but confirms that

the Thenn-Karstark marriage won't happen, which is conductive to Wildling assimilation in the book.

.

The degradation of the Thenns from quasi-feudal lords into cannibals is a real shame. Cannibalism certainly can't be looked upon favorably by the Old Gods either (I dispute that the denizens of Skaagos are cannibals).

Unless you subscribe to the "Jojen-paste" theory.

On a different note, I really don't like how they've portrayed Tormund in the show or anything beyond the Wall really. The exception is Rose Leslie, who does a wonderful job as Ygritte.

Ultimately though, the show and the book are different beasts, and if they want to portray the Wildlings in a less sympathetic fashion for the sake of fan service, that's fine.

I really enjoyed the most recent episode. It was very faithful to the book, though that's to be expected of an episode written by Martin himself.

Secura: Littlefinger's speech in season one probably isn't enough for viewers to think of Gregor with the same sense of dread felt by readers. Had the scene gone as it did in the book, with Sandor telling Sansa, then perhaps they would. The rumours of the link between Gregor and the "mysterious" deaths of House Clegane's servants and members of the Clegane family are also very ominous but remain absent in the series. In any case, there's still time to build him up.

With all that said, however, the scene which shows him cutting off the horse's head in season one is brutal.

Yeah I was disappointed by Tormund, not so much the Actor's fault as it seems to be more on the Writers/Directors of the show, he does a decent job when he's shown, but I dunno, something's just off from a Writing stand point from him, disappointing as I loved him in the books.

I think the problem with Tormund, is that they haven't shown him enough. They only feature him when sh*t is going down. They didn't show him bonding with Jon, and letting his guard down a little to talk about himself.

Yeah, that's what the issue seems to be.

I mean like you said, he's only there when there's action happening, when he and Jon got pretty close over their time together.

The last episode was great, poor Tyrion though. i do hope we will see more of Prince Oberyn. and i'm gonna be pissed off if they kill him so quickly or at all. not sure about his fate as im not a book reader. but the show has a habit of introducing new characters then killing them.

you really cannot expect that the TV show will ever be as detailed as the books.

this ain't the first time - and it won't be the last - that otherwise significant plot points from the text have been shed from the series.

each episode of Game of Thrones would have to be 3 hours long if they actually wanted to expand on the content of Martin's books.

...which would be awesome by the way

@darth Lol.

I go though the same thing, with friends who don't read the books, when they start talking what might happen in the plot, and you're just like "Okay" trying to keep a straight face.

I'm going to spoil myself I decided, by watching the free series offerings from Xfinity On Demand XOD... but I priced the box set per season locally on DVD, it's about $30, which is average for popular stuff, including used games.

Speaking of, interesting article here me thinks....

This series is so good that people couldn't shut up about it. Keep getting spoiler everywhere! f*ck.

Knowing who's gonna die is no fun.

I remember the first time i watch season 1 episode 9 without getting spoiled by other. Oh boy, that was amazing.

Nothing in the entire entertainment universe could shocked me like that.

Because in every movie i've seen, when the good guy is in danger, somehow they'll survive. Maybe because their friend somehow appeared and stop the bad guy, or the good guy gain superhuman reflex, and stop the bad guy himself..But no, i keep waiting for that moment but it never happened. Ned just accepted his fate, and got his head severed. I'm shocked because how it felt so real. And my jaw dropped for like 30 min after that scene and staring at the blank screen.

I know it's not mindblowing or anything, it just that i've never felt anything like that before.I wanna fell something like that again....

Agreed 100%. I started reading the books after Season 1, but man....

that whole time, even as Ice came down, I knew in my heart Ned would be saved. Looks like I am just like Jon Snow... I know nothing.

I always feel so empowered knowing what's coming next. I haven't read the books all the way to the end of DWD, but unfortunately due to the internet and previously not giving a damn about the book, I know most of the plot twists and points. Currently on the second part of ASOS.

I don't get the joy of not knowing what is coming, but I do get the enjoyment of seeing how parts are portrayed.

I don't get the joy of not knowing what is coming

AKA the greatest joy of all.

whenever a great book or story is made into a movie/show, I always feel bad for the people who have already read it.

likewise, when a great book or story that I've already read is made into drama, I tend to skip it.

it's just not the same when all the great plot points are already spoiled.

I think that's honestly why I loved watching Breaking Bad so much - you can't exactly be on the edge of your seat when you know what's coming.

That's another reason why the way they're tackling The Walking Dead is so clever - you can still be surprised.

But that said? Doesn't detract from the show (GoT) for me. I love seeing it come to life.

Also his hand grew back.

To be fair, if I could take back what I had read on the internet before I actually got interested in the series, I would. But I can't hah.

ATLEAST when the final two books come out I'll ensure that I stay the f*ck away from the internet and anything to do with the series haha. Plus there's still great pleasure to be had from reading the books (and watching the series, but I'm truly not anywhere near as fussed about it as I am with the books) as there's all the interesting stuff in between.

I dunno man I got all the suspense from reading the books the first time round but I still greatly enjoy seeing a visual interpretation of the world. They've even changed, missed out and added in plot points in the show that weren't in the book. It's the same overall tale but it's told differently to the books. I re read books and re watch films/ tv though.

I guess it's the difference of suspense.... not knowing what will happen vs. not knowing how something will be presented. Both can be enjoyable, but I would rather a 1 hour TV show be spoiled than a 1000+ page novel.

Like Orbital said, you still get the story, twists and suspense. I was just as surprised by the Red Wedding as any TV only person. I was just as much at the edge of my seat. But reading it, you don't miss anything, you get the broader picture, and you go at your own pace.

I have no regrets about reading the books first.

Yeah, I agree. With the books you understand all the little things that might have been missed out in the series.

For example the whole Rains of Castamere song itself that plays during the Red Wedding as the assassin's cue. Is the song's relevance ever alluded to in the series?

IIRC it's covered when Bronn is in the tavern drinking with the Lannister men before the Battle of the Blackwater.
