tbh this show sucks now. I mean, that scene with the Wights, dear God. It didn't make any sense, 1) they can freeze the ice, 2) they apparently can throw ice javelins that can kill a dragon (where as a giant crossbows can't) 2) they seemed to be able to swim, since they popped up from the ice in the same episode. Now, this would be fine in an anime or whatever, where characters can run and superspeed but not fight at superspeed, teleport but not to escape death etc. Rule of Cool and all. But this show doesn't run on Rule of Cool, it's meant to be a deconstruction of fantasy tropes.

And the dragon melting the wall, f*ck me. So not only is the wall useless, the NK can now rain fire which is pretty huge thematic disruption, even if the fire is blue, which actually just signifies that it's incredibly hot. That's not what sticks in my craw though, it's more just how hard the characters f*cked up. It's entirely their fault that the NK is no longer stuck north of the wall. It was written like that purely to give the NK a dragon so they could skip past the NK staring at the wall for two or three episodes.

Also like why didn't they just throw a bunch of oil lamps at the bottom of the wall if its literally just ice with no magical properties?

EDIT: and why on God's green Earth does Sam- instead of demanding the Maesters tell every Lord in Westeros to send their armies north and leaving Jon to go on a suicidal expedition north of the Wall- not just ask them to send a bunch of Maesters to the Wall to see for themselves, then send ravens back to the citadel like "yep, the dead have risen lads, drop everything." The show also acts like Sam is the only way they know anything about the WW but the Night's Watch has been on about them for years. On that note, why don't they investigate anyway? The Night's Watch has clearly crumbled and two consecutive Lord Commanders have been screaming about the dead rising. Don't they want to know why the Night's Watch has fallen apart and both Lord Commanders (one a young man, suggesting extreme circumstances) have apparently lost their minds?

oh the maesters understand they just don't care. they have extreme prejudice against magic.

My beef is why Bran is telling the Stark sisters everything about Littlefinger but nothing about John Snow to anyone until Sam magically comes walking in. That whole scene was kind of cheap way to come to a conclusion about Rhaegar and Lyanna's love.

He didn't know he wasn't a bastard which means it would have caused more trouble than it was worth. But once Sam told him he was legitimized; that changes thing.

The real question is how Bran didn't know he was a legit Targ.

Dragons are magical beings.

my guess would be, Bran knows Sam and Jon are close and Sam is outside of the family. When Sam first entered the room Bran was genuinely excited to see Sam. He seemed more excited to Sam than he did with Sansa and Arya. Bran's not in the place to drop a big bomb like that to his sisters without Jon being there, plus if it got out that Jon is half Targaryen before he showed up all hell might break loose. From the way Bran told Sam, too me it was like he wanted to tell someone, but until Sam showed up he had no one to share it with. No one else at winterfell is close with Jon and that would also keep it to themselves.

Apparently there was a scene that got cut where Sansa went to ask Bran about Arya, meaning the Sansa was thinking about killing Arya before Bran told everything she needed to know. Cant paste on this site for some reason but it's from MSN just search for the actor who plays Bran.

basically I agree.

although I think the issue is fairly isolated to just this last season.

the writing became very lazy very quickly although the series as a whole maintains its merit. I would still immediately recommend watching GoT to anyone who hasn't seen it based on all of the great twists that build the story over time. as a viewer I'll feel slightly disappointed if the show's finale and conclusion are as lukewarm as this season has been but I won't feel like I've wasted time or anything.

oh he's got that long spear.

I just assumed he was bashing something outside the frame but now that you mention it, it does kind of look like he's fighting a swarm of bees

That last image reminds me; even costume design took a noticeable nose dive this season. Very little visual diversity and colour, with characters spending vast portions of the season wearing black outfits, generic soldiers siding with Cersei defacto wear Lannister getup etc etc.

c'mon you can't dis the costumes. Everyone was rocking some serious threads - esp. Jorah and Cersei.

Daenerys and Cersei also seem to be wearing basically the same outfit, a sort of tight black longcoat. They seem to wear this all the time so maybe it's intentional and some sort sort of official queen robe?

Cersei's was one of the worst offences, actually. Straight off a set of Star Trek.

She looked a tad "Shinzon" didn't she?

I wanted to talk about the Rains of Castamere for a little bit

The way the song is presented in world is that it's about the Lannister victory over the Reyne-Tarbeck rebellions. Tywin's ruthlessness and lack of patience for insubordination. It's a strong, haunting tune that has characterized Lannister victory and upsets e.g The Red Wedding.

But I think the way the song is used within the TV show at least indicates a different meaning: it's about the fallibility of House Lannister and the irony of Tywin's obsessions with legacy and family.

Only a cat of a different coat, that's all the truth I know.

Each of the Lannister kids are incredibly different in their own way; Jaime is a fighter, a warrior, not much of a strategist or a leader [till he loses his hand at least] Cersei is devious, deceptive, incredibly vindictive and egotistical while Tyrion is the closest to his father in terms of strategy, having a mind for politics and the game.

If you'll notice it plays during scenes like this:

Of great infighting and upset in the Lannister family. They're all from the same blood but they're cats with different coats.

Tywin's inability to actually understand his children, their strengths and weaknesses and his obsession with the idea of family over actual family ties is what led to his demise and the gradual decline of their house. The Rains of Castamere isn't about Lannister triumph, it's a tragedy.

Jorah's always have had some serious threads throughout the seasons. Most other characters usually wear black (like Snow) and the folks at King's Landing are mostly in the same colors over the years now. It's like Jaime and Cersei have a wardrobe of same outfits.

I dunno... I feel like Jorah wore the same outfit in the first 5 seasons. Like, exact same.
