Good stuff, as you'd expect from GoT, but I really don't see why they have to alter the dialogue so much from the book. Honestly, Tyrion is pretty dignified and makes some good jokes during his "wedding" in the book, but they reduce him to a blithering idiot during the same scene in the show. Epic seeing Sam slay that Other mind--much better than him just beating back a wight. I still maintain that the Others in the book are more harrowing with their pale blades and such.

Samwell killed an Other in the book as well, although it happened much earlier, while the Night's Watch was fleeing from the Fist of the First Men. It earned him the name Sam the Slayer among the remaining brothers. Also, I disliked how they made Sam fail at sending the message back to Castle Black, which was one of the few things to go right at the Fist.

I feel the book's description of the Others made them sound much more elegant than frightening to be honest. Their book description makes them sound more like elves with Active Camouflage armor instead of the weird, frost troll look they have in the show. I think I prefer the show's look, but it definitely makes the Night's King's marriage to a female White Walker seem off. I wonder if they'll even mention it, or if it's even relevant to the overall story.

Yeah I knew about Sam slaying the other in the snow (with Small Paul dying), but there's also a bit where he defends Gilly against a wight, and they have him slaying an Other instead. I don't understand why they didn't have Sam send the ravens either. The Night's King is probably just a legend like many others from the Age of Heroes, the validity of which is uncertain. I think maybe the Others just come across as more mysterious in the book. I imagine them being taller, better armored and able to move on snow without making any sound, and these things are slightly undermined in the show. It's hardly a major issue though, and I'm not saying the White Walkers have been done badly or anything.

EDIT (2 June): In light of this evening's episode, I thought I'd leave this here:

At least it's over with. It's pretty much the low point of the story. While we're in for a few sad moments from here, none of them hit quite as hard as this one.

Interesting change in the killing of Talisa. I wonder if this will cause any problems down the line with book/show faithfulness.

I think they handled the RW fairly well, although I think the book version was more exciting. It needed a lot more chaos breaking out, it just felt too... orderly. And there's a distinct lack of Greatjon Umber.

You have no idea how long I've been waiting to use this.

I'll say the same thing that I did after reading that chapter of the book... Walder Frey you mother f*cker.

They did it very well, though. I enjoyed seeing Catelyn slowly realize that sh*t was going to go down, from the guy closing the doors, to the band playing "the Rains of Castamere", to Roose wearing chainmail.

Yeah, what the hell happened to Greatjon? Has he even been in this season.

Anyway, the reactions are coming in. I've been waiting, well actually only a year to see this...

EDIT: /r/gameofthrones is blowing the f*ck up. This link has literally thousands of reactions from people who had no idea. I'd like to take this time to congratulate all of my fellow book readers in keeping this a secret from the "TV only" crowd.

This is why the Boltons are the only house I respect.

That was an amazing moment, cheered as soon as I saw it.

Great to see that house wiped out like cockroaches.

I like Roose Bolton quite a bit, not so much with Ramsay.

lol

I'm sure this was devastating and all, but there is a lot of comedy gold coming out of it.

The directors on the tv shows have killed of people who are still alive in the books. That kinda annoys me.

what else can you say?

great episode.

props to book readers for not spoiling the Red Wedding before now. I sort of feel sorry for them, knowing exactly what was coming, not sharing in the utter disbelief.

all this time, I had assumed the Red Wedding already happened; I thought it was the wedding between Tyrion and Sansa... you know, because they're both red-heads.

so this was definitely a shock in terms of the storyline, but I personally knew something was fishy a couple of episodes ago.

I didn't recognize the tune for 'Rains of Castamere' when the band started playing it.

and I didn't know why Catelyn Stark was so worried when she heard it. I really failed to make the connection.

BUT I noticed when Lord Bolton freed Jamie Lannister. I'm not sure why more people didn't understand what a big clue this was or why there are so many overreactions on Twitter.

it was a pretty serious clue and this was several episodes prior to the Red Wedding.

Bolton was supposedly allied with Robb all along.

so why is he releasing the Kingslayer back to their enemies? what's in it for the Bolton's? because I remembered this incident I pretty much figured out what was happening the moment the bedding ceremony was finished. as soon as Tully and his new bride were carried away THEY LOCKED THE DOORS.

like, hello? lol.gif

something is about to go down.

Catelyn Stark's reaction (or complete lack-there-of) when she slit the neck of the young wife - awaiting her own death - was perhaps the single most powerful moment of the entire series.

When I first read about the red wedding I was so astounded. A books never thrown me off like that before. I was almost certain Robb would make it through ahah. This ep hasn't aired in UK yet I dont think though. Looking forward to it. It really did cement Boltons bad assery for me.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Freys getting away scot free though.

For an episode predominantly featuring my least favorite characters, it was supremely entertaining.

First off I hope the actor for Bran is like seventeen, because I icked myself out by getting all attracted to him for the first time ever this episode(no homo). He just seemed so mature, like he had aged a handful of years since he was last onscreen. Fitting as this is the episode where his big brother died leaving him heir. And I was glad to see more of the little, little one. He looks a lot like Robb and Cat the more I look at him. In a episode with a handful of big tragic moments the one that hit me the hardest was the two little Starks parting. I assume this one is final too. It just kills me how Rickon is all alone now.

The Northern rebellion was riveting when it began, but I guess like many actual ones it trudged and the romance was lost. Once the Tyrells showed up at KL the Lannister/Stark feud paled in comparison since the latter are simply not clever or underhanded enough to match the likes of Tywin and Tryion. And Robb's followers who once worshipped him seemed to fall off one by one, so naturally it was coming to an end. And it was a pretty surprising end, though I expected one of Robb's own men offing him. Frey's anger was reasonably understandable. Robb betrays him one moment then decides he needs him the next? And he wasn't even a Northern man if I remember right so the rebellion probably didn't seem all that impressive to him.

The wedding itself was a lot more cheery than Sansa's. I quite enjoyed the costume and hair porn (Talisa, Robb, and Cat looked fab) and Lord Dreadfort's slimy presence (though initially I was surprised to even see him there). But the absolute best part was Cat dragging that girl by the hair, like just out of the blue. On the other hand that poor girl didn't deserve that grizzly death. At least Robb and his crew (and even Talisa) knew they were gambling with their lives when they made the choice to rebel/marry a rebel King, but that (teenage?) girl was a total innocent.

I can't wait till the next episode. I expect Joffs, Cersei, and Tywin are gonna party hard. Poor Sansa might just off herself. And Tyrion will be caught in the middle, likely pleased that the North problem is dealt with but at the same time sorry for Sansa.

There's still quite a lot of mileage left in storm of swords and still some really intense moments to come. That said though G R R Martin removed one of the central conflicts though by wiping out the Starks and I think this is one of the reasons why many think a Feast for Crows was a weak book as it didn't really evolve onwards that much.

GRRM Said the red wedding is based on the black feast which was a real massacre which happened up in Scotland apparently. Grisly stuff.

I was looking forward to this moment since the season started.

Look, I like the Starks as much as the next guy, but I have nothing but respect for the Lanisters. They know how to get the job done. They are by far the most interesting house.

I wouldn't say i love the Lannisters but Tywin is indeed the smartest person in the show/book.

I think i'm gonna have to start reading the books and finish them before next season cause i heard that season 3 is extremely different from the books

To those TV only people, I want to assure you, you're going to want to watch next season. The Red Wedding is probably the biggest game changer in all of the books, but next season there is a few really great moments, one moment in particular that many people will relish with a passion.

Oh my god NO, f*ck.

I got talked into watching this earlier than I usually do. I just can't believe it. I'm not a book reader so I didn't know what to expect, but I certainly did not expect THAT. I'm probably focusing on things that mean nothing in game-changing terms; like Arya's poor face, Direwolf murder, baby murder, Catelyn Stark scream of pain when she saw Robb die.

Astonishing. What to expect for the finale wow.gif

I knew what was going to happen and it still managed to shock me. Probably the most intense I've ever felt watching TV. A lot worse than the Ned Stark fiasco, at least in that one you could see it coming. Can't wait to see the reactions to Lady Stoneheart.

I wonder if they'll put that in the season finale. I can't wait to see how they're gonna do it. Probably a bit more toned down than in the book.
