danjodan
How do you feel about plastic surgery? I think its fine as long as you are doing it for yourself and not people around you. For instance Michael Jackson wasnt happy with the way he looked when he was younger, so he changed his face and then he seemed to be happy with the way he looked which is good. What are your thoughts?
Rhoda
Thing is, Michael Jackson's changes made him turn to salt overnight. I'll never be in a position where I feel I need to tighten my face like a snare drum. I'm not in the public limelight and I don't think I'll get to the point where I feel so insecure that I have to get any work done. People like Michael Douglas can do what they want, but I'm quite happy with just looking after my body and going about my life. I have quite a big nose, but it's not something I feel so bothered about that I simply must get 20% of it lobbed off.
Petarkco
Michael Jackson had body dysmorphic disorder (a psychological condition whereby the sufferer has no concept of how his or her physical appearance is perceived by others).

Girish
I won't even think of plastic surgery unless my face is disfigured in some way making me feel insecure about myself. I'm a decent looking man and I do not wish to enhance my looks any further. I don't even use any facial creams or the likes. Never been a fan of those. Unless you've managed to convince yourself that you're f*cking ugly and plan to take up a career in modelling/TV/films, there are absolutely no benefits of plastic surgery. Robinski
I'm alright with it as long as the person involved is made fully aware of all the risks as well as the benefits. They need to be told both the physical effects that will/could happen during the surgery and afterwards, and also the mental effects. If someone is suffering from major body image issues they need to be told that that's a problem with their head rather than body and as such surgery most likely will not help them in the slightest. When you're talking about people like celebrities who often live off their image, I think it's perfectly understandable. If you made your money driving around (e.g taxi driver) you'd surely fix up your car if you felt it was having an effect on your job. What does need to be different is the amount of honesty about the issue by people in the public eye. If they are seen as a role model they should really let their fans know why they're doing it, even if it is just for shallow reasons. I'm not actually a big fan of the whole plastic-girl/Frankenstein's monster image myself, but I think if people feel the need to change how they look so badly as to undergo surgery they should have the option. It just needs to be done carefully and sensitively. That said, I'd jump at the chance for some free laser eye surgery, but, while not exactly medically needed, I wouldn't call it cosmetic. drscot
Its stupid and pointless... even though ive had a nose job... that is unless you feel insecure and uncomfortable how you are, but these women who have 10 facelifts 6 boobjobs and 7 nosejobs are ridiculous
Rhoda
Its stupid and pointless... even though ive had a nose job... It can't be that stupid and pointless then? Unless you mean it's prone to abuse and excessive surgery is the daft part.

WF the Hobgoblin
I think it's fine as long as the end result looks and feels good but I do pity these folk that go overboard and end up looking like big plastic freaks. I doubt I'd ever get any work done though. I've had about ten operations in my time ( all of which needed for actual medical reasons ) and I've hated every one of them. The nervousness beforehand, the weird feeling of the anaesthetic and the sh* tty recovery. No way would I go through that again just for a bit of plastic surgery. Plus I wouldn't say I need it anyway.
Oddsock
There seems to be a general consensus that cosmetic surgery is bad when it's for vanity and good when it's for bolstering one's self-confidence and all that jazz. I wouldn't get plastic surgery but a friend of mine has apparently considered getting breast implants because her chest is fairly small and she feels having a larger pair of blouse bunnies would give her more confidence and femininity, so that's cool with me. AlexGTAGamer
I think plastic surgery is fine as long as it is needed, say if you were scalded by hot water across your face as a child or have some sort of deformity or were mauled by a dog/bear/etc., but if it's something stupid like "My boyfriend wants me to get a boob job because he wants me to look like "Jordan" Katie Price" or "I want a nose job so I can look like whoever" then I disagree with it. Raptomex
I think certain surgeries are good like laser eye surgery because it can be beneficial but plastic surgery, I don't think it's such a great idea. And many people just overdo it. It's actually quite ridiculous.

Toup
Never realy tough about it but I don't blame who does it, it's their own choice, but i think it's ridicolous. trip
Plastic surgery usually looks pretty obvious, so I really don't understand why people do it. It isn't like you are fooling anyone. Fake boobs have to be the worst novelty of plastic surgery. I had a ton of plastic surgery up until I was about 4yrs old. My upper lip, and nose are reconstructions. It was done when I was young so that they would develop along with the rest of my body. My surgery was covered by a government program and when I would go for my check ups ,every 5 or so years, they always wanted to redo my nose. Even though I'm not a fan of plastic surgery, I'm pretty happy for it. Without it I would look like [even more of] a freak. NaidRaida
Plastic surgery is disgusting in this case: A person with alot of money is bored and think the double d tits are still way to small to smash the husbands head. Plastic surgery is okay in this case: A person, maybe deformed due to an accident needs that to have half a normal life. Get the point?

GTA 360
That said, I'd jump at the chance for some free laser eye surgery, but, while not exactly medically needed, I wouldn't call it cosmetic. Cosmetic: Used or done superficially to make something look better, more attractive, or more impressive: Alterations in the concert hall were only cosmetic and did nothing to improve the acoustics. Laser eye surgery is there to make you see better, not to make you look better, looking and seeing are 2 different things you know. OT, Cosmetic surgery is pointless, and I especially hate it when people go abroad to get it done because it's cheaper and then come back over here complaining because it gave them cancer and wasting the tax payers money putting it right. ska
Agreed with most of the posts in this topic. Unless your face is majorly disfigured, plastic surgery shouldn't even be an option for people. Hell, I'm shocked they haven't made it illegal for people with no disfigurements. Plastic surgery, botox, etc., it's all the same. All it is anymore is a tool for privileged people with self-esteem issues, which actually makes them look like f*cking terrible. Natural beauty is the best. I wouldn't even consider dating a person with even an ounce of that crap in them.

UNRATED69
I would never have plastic surgery myself. That being said, I don't mind others doing it, and it definitely does help in some cases. However, in my opinion, it'll just ruin you in the long run. But, hey, it's your body and you can do whatever you want with it.
*MURDOC*
I've broken my nose about 8-10 times, so it's pretty f*cked up, but you can barely notice it, that's because most of the damage is inside. I plan on getting surgery to fix my nose, although not for appearances, only because it's causing problems with my breathing. Also, I can no longer hold my breath underwater, so if I don't block my nose, water will flow right in. My opinion is that it always depends on the circumstance, so nobody can say it's "bad" or "good" and actually be correct.
