Hmmm nice bike
OJ: Way too young to remember 9/11: I was 7, I remember being in school that day, and, instead of the usual morning announcements we got, the principal announced over the intercom that a plane had crashed into one of the World Trade Center towers in New York. My teacher said "What?" like if she didn't believe it, and then turned on the TV, and me and the rest of the class watched the events all unfold on live TV, everything from the 2nd plane hitting (which occurred minutes after we turned on the TV) to the towers collapsing (followed by my teacher crying) to the Pentagon being hit, and my teacher finally turned off the TV when they announced that Flight 93 had crashed in Shanksville (at this point, I remember my teacher saying "OK, I've had enough of this"). Classes resumed as normal for the rest of the day, and I remember being picked up by my dad after school (I was actually surprised to see him, since he usually wasn't off of work until maybe an hour later, but they evacuated his office in downtown that morning) with him listening to the radio coverage while we were in the car. It was an overall scary and depressing feeling at the end of the day. It was also raining pretty hard after school that day here in Chicago, and I remember seeing fighter jets passing over my house that night and the evening after. I thought it was pretty scary to think that the Twin Towers, which I had seen myself when I was in NYC just two years before (my parents and I were at the base of the towers and walked by, but we never went in), were gone, and that thousands of people were left dead from all of this. I also remember being a bit scared that we were next, too, seeing as this city has the tallest building in the country. I thought it was going to happen all over again the next day, but thankfully, it didn't. Still, it's probably one of the days I remember the most vividly from when I was a kid, and not just bits and pieces of like other memories. I even remember the walk to school earlier that morning, probably half an hour before it even happened. It's just all stuck with me.
Mr.Mister
It was 3rd grade and I was late for school because I slept in. I walked in and sat down and I only got to watch a few seconds of it on CNN or something before the teacher shut it off. I was angry because I thought it was a movie and it looked awesome. Dont really remember anything after that The would would have been 10:50AM east time. Did both towers collapse by that time?
Hmmm nice bike
The would would have been 10:50AM east time. Did both towers collapse by that time? Yep, both towers had collapsed by then, and I believe around that time was when a part of the Pentagon collapsed due to the fire from the crash there. TEoS
I wasn't aware of the OJ chase at the time, though I do remember the ridiculous coverage of the trial being on almost every TV channel. I was really young and couldn't figure out why they didn't just put it on one channel so I could watch regular TV. 9/11: Although rumors were spreading like wildfire through the school, only one or two teachers mentioned it and they were very vague about it, only saying that something terrible had happened in New York City. I'm about 30 minutes away and we could all see the smoke in the sky. It was confirmed for me until me and a friend were walking from the bus stopped and asked a man about the WTC, at which point he told us they were gone. I don't remember where I was when the attacks in Spain and the UK happened, but I do recall having a brief thought about the downfall of civilization. darthYENIK
What I remember about the OJ Simpson chase... I remember coming home from the store, I think I had just bought a comic book or some Marvel trading cards. I was sitting under the tree in the front yard of the house I grew up in, while I looked over what I had just acquired, when my brother came out and said there was a high speed chase going on. We went in a watched it. Little did we know it would dominate the TV for the next year or so. Every day they'd show the trial instead of cartoons like Tiny Toon Adventures or Batman the Animated series. It's so weird to see a lot of people who were kids at the time of these events talk about how they were upset about missing their cartoons. I miss that innocence. As for 9/11, it happened at 6/7am my local time, and I had the day off so I was sleeping in. No one came to tell me about it until hours later. My brother (once again the bearer of news), burst in my room, told me the World Trade Center had been attacked by jets, so I quickly turned the TV on in front of me to see the highlights. unopescio
I was in 5th grade on 9/11, I got woken up early in the morning by the tv (It was never on in the morning) I came out and saw the same pictures as everyone else. At school all the teachers sat in the staff room and watched tv leaving us to do whatever we wanted. At one point they wheeled the big tv from the AV room into the classroom and turned it on. The very first thing it showed was some dude falling and they quickly ran in front of it and turned it off again. For the rest of the day they just let us draw stuff. Some were drawing falling people and thought it was funny, it seemed like I was the only one in the class that realized how big of a world event it really was, nobody else in the class seemed to understand or really care about what was going on. All I really knew about the WTC before 9/11 was that you could build them in sim city 2000. @oddsock: How the f*ck were you 11 in 8th grade? Did you start in kindy when you were 2 years old? JOSEPH X
OJ: I was living in Germany at the time and was getting ready to spend six weeks in the Caymans. I only saw it as a headline on the front of the newspapers at news stands. 9/11: A week or so before I was about to start uni, and I was drinking heavily. I was in the off license/liquor store buying my lunchtime six-pack and the guy at the counter was like, "HAVE YOU HEARD? PLANES ARE FALLING OUT OF THE SKY IN AMERICA!!" I went home and got drunk while watching the terrible events, lost my faith in humanity, and went into an alcohol fuelled spiral which saw me lose my girlfriend, place at uni, a cat, my job and my mind. Miro
Ah 2001... I hardly remember that year. Well, while that disaster was happening I was playing outside. Suddenly, I just heard my mom telling my dad about two famous buildings that were taken down by some airplanes. They were both stoned by that. Still, it happened back in 2001, when I was only 5, so I didn't realize at all what was going on. It's sad still. Dead (Retired)

AlexGTAGamer
Not as big as the 9/11 terrorist attacks but where were you when this happened? (The 7/7 London bombings). I remember it all very clearly. I was 9 at the time and it was a school sports day, there were parents (including my parents), teachers and students all over the school playing field where the events for the day were taking place, I had just finished doing a running race when suddenly 2 Chinnock HC-1 british army helicopters flew over the playing fields heading in the direction of London, all of the parents began to knatter between themselves but thought nothing much of it until one parnet (I think it may have been my dad) announced "There has been attacks on London!" at which point all of the parents began to panic, they all began to leave some even taking their children with them, I can't remember much after that but I think everyone got the rest of the day off school. sivispacem
On 7/7 I was on the way to university. I didn't realise it had happened until I got on campus and everyone, literally thousands of people, were crammed into the bar watching events unfold. I spent the rest of the day frantically trying to call my ex (my partner at the time), who would have been on the Liverpool Street Circle line train. She'd actually missed it and was on waiting for the next train when the bomb went off, but because the entire mobile communications network collapsed I didn't find that out until the evening. Typhus
I was the first one in my school to find out about 7/7. Being far more interested in politics than almost anyone else, I checked BBC News a lot, and still do. I was the one telling people all about it. And I remember just being utterly infuriated. I never understood the crocodile tears when there's a terrorist attack. Don't get sad, get mad.

Josh
When exactly was 7/7?... I remeber something that happened in London in 07/13/2005 when a brazilliam guy was killed with a bomb inside the subway (i think) God... here there was a BIG thing that people talked over months after happened... 7/7 was a big bomb attack on the London transportation network. The reason why that guy was killed was because he was mistaken for another bomber a few days later. However it is accepted by the police that his death was caused by excessive force. Like Typhus I was the first in my class to find out about 7/7. I was going to the toilet when I heard the radio noise about the explosion coming through the walls from teh classroom next door where all of the teachers were watching the events as they occurred. I misheard or something because I reported to my parents that it was a petrol tanker exploding and they just shook their heads at me.
TheSiggi
I remember 7/7 pretty clear: I had a free period so i went home, made me a sandwich, turned on tv and zapped through the programs when the news showed it. I was so shocked, i missed the first half of the next lesson. @sivispacem: Ouch, your nerves must have been on edge Edited May 16, 2011 by The_Siggi
Hmmm nice bike
I can remember 7/7, too. I was asleep at the time of the initial bombings (it was 2 to 3 in the morning here when the attacks were going on), but I remember my mom waking me up early that morning (around 6 am) saying to me "Oh my god, turn on the TV, they're bombing London," and the first thing I saw on TV when I turned it on was a blown-apart bus. Then, when the morning news shows here stopped talking about it, I watched the rest of the coverage that morning on BBC America. I remember security at transit centers and stations here being stepped up for a period of time after this, as well. When going through the subway or on an L-train platform, they had more police standing close by, as well as bomb-sniffing dogs. They would even occasionally stop some people (I remember them stopping my dad in the subway once and asking to see what was in his bag, a laptop was in there, and they looked through for a bit and had the dog sniff it. I don't know why they might have gotten suspicious over my dad, out of all of the other people on the platform, probably just picked him at random out of all of the people to search). But nowadays, there's only police in the subway or in major transit centers, and I haven't seen a bomb-sniffing dog in a while.
General Goose
I don't really remember 9/11. I remember 7/7 quite vividly though, as it was my 10th birthday. I was eating in school, when one of the teachers came into the room and said to my teacher "There's been some explosions in London". Didn't find out more until later. AlexGTAGamer
Alright how about this one, where were you when this happened? (The 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami) I was 8 at the time, I was playing Texas Hold 'em with my family around the dining table when suddenly, news flash, tsunami in Indonesia, the reports that came from the following days were terrible, I clipped the newspaper articles out and stuck them in a folder I have created called "Unstable Earth" full of newspaper articles about different natural disasters around the world. Every day the death toll was rising, it was terrible and what was even more scary was that the vicar of my local church her daughter was in Indonesia at the time of the earthquake and tsunami, but she was fine she was further inland. darthYENIK
7/7, happened during a summer that I was drunk for like three weeks straight. Basically my life was, Wake up (at 2pm), shower, hang out in my house for a couple hours, then go out drinking all night, and fall asleep at 4 or 5am. So needless to say I didn't see much breaking news. I did remember seeing this, but I didn't really look into it much. 2004 Tsunami, I remember watching the news at my job. But it was boxing day, so the store was pretty busy, and I couldn't watch for long.
Capricornus
On 9/11, I was in my 7th grade math class. My teach let each student look out of the window (I Live in New Jersey). When I look out the window I saw that humongous cloud of smoke from the first tower collapsing. Man it was crazy. A lot of parents came and got their kids out of school soon after the planes hit. Where were you all at when Cho wreaked havoc upon the Virginia Tech campus?
NaidRaida
On 9/11 I was at school first and arrived at home some minutes before the second plane hits (German time, something about midday). Kwandilibro
Damn. I was 5, maybe 6 on 9/11. All I remember was being in school and seeing teachers turn on the news and crying. Then I went home and surprise, surprise, my mom was crying. I couldn't figure out what was wrong until we watched the news broadcast 90 million times. I started drawing f*cking pictures of planes flying into buildings, though. I also remember VA Tech, that scared the sh*t out of me. I remember one video they showed on CNN or something, you could here the dude in there letting off shots for like 5 minutes. Just nonstop "pop, pop, pop, pop". Doublepulse
2 years ago at high school, while I was a Senior, there was a incident with a kid who brought a chainsaw, 2 foot sword, and pipe bombs to the school. He planned to kill a teacher and as many students as possible. Some was screaming when they noticed him and he threw a pipebomb which set off the fire alarms. Everyone at first thought it was some idiot who pulled the fire alarm, but eventually found out. No one was hurt as everyone safely evacuated out of the school. It was on the news for about 2-3 days. It was around 8:10 am and I did not have a 1st perioid so I was choosing whether to hang in a classroom or go to the library. If I chose to go to the library.. I would of witnessed the entire scene. Basically the kid was trying to pull off a 1 man columbine massacre.. Luckily he failed since his chainsaw failed to start up anyway. Cheat
No clue about the OJ thing, but I was in Italy, at my cousin's confirmation party during the 9/11 attacks, I was to hear about the whole thing only weeks later, back home in Finland. I was 5 years old at the time, so I can hardly remember anything. The tsunami, I was at home watching the news about it with my parents, it was like the first disaster they let me keep myself updated on. Virginia Tech, no clue, but the two finnish school murders during consequent years touch me deeply as a Finn.
