Dymez.
Basically this is a thread about posting and replying to a big, shocking occurrence or news that took place some time within your lifetime. Whether it was tragic, weird, funny, or fun. Share where you were, how you felt about it, what did you do or others around you did. I'll it start off with something lite. I was a kid at the time. I remember watching the NBA Finals (enjoying the hell out of it too) then, all of a sudden *FLASH* and this sh*t pops up! They say OJ Simpson is on the run in a high speed chase but I'm looking at it like, "Wtf? High speed? I can run faster than that. Put the Finals back on!" Then my mom (who was cooking) walks by and see it, my brother, my neighbor... next thing you know I have an entire living room full of people watching this sh*t. All I wanted to do was watch some basketball. I was pissed, man. If this happened on a Superbowl Sunday, I probably would've stole a car and shot down OJ's Bronco myself. AlexGTAGamer
A major event where were you when this happened? I was 7 at the time I had just walked downstiars into the living room, there I saw my mum, dad, brother and his 2 friends all sitting on the sofa watching the news and seeing the planes smashing into the towers, next thing I know my mum says "Get him out of here." and one of my brothers friends takes me upstairs back to my room so I don't have to see anymore of the tragedy occurring. WF the Hobgoblin
OJ: Don't remember it at all. Didn't find out about it until years later. 9/11: School, just before hometime. My chemistry teacher came into class and told us about it. Not sure but I think only one building had been hit at this point. Then I went home and watched the rest of the events on tv. XMike
During 9/11 I was in class, 4th grade, and the teachers put on the news after they heard what happened. Like an hour afterwards my mom came to school and took me home for the day, and I had to stay in all day because nobody was sure if any more attacks were going to happen that day (pretty close to a big American city). At the moment i was just wanting to watch my anime... today i know the pain of the people who lost their relatives Nice edit...

ska
On 9/11, I mostly remember waking up at my grandmother's home and seeing her sitting in her usual chair watching TV with a very horrified look on her face. I remember she was watching KABC and sitting on the edge of her seat, shocked, scared. I was scared too. Next thing, I'm at school and the teacher was over an hour delayed coming into the room, and when she did come in, she was on the verge of tears and was trying to explain the events in a manner that wouldn't scare us. Overall, it was a very scary day. I think I rode my bike a lot.
sonnyBlack
I remember seeing footage of the OJ thing on the news, but at the time I couldn't care less about what was going on. I was too young to really know what the deal was. As for 9/11, I was in gym class while the planes were hitting into the buildings. Our teacher came in to our locker room to tell us the WTC had just been bombed. Some kids made rude remarks while the teacher was showing us what was happening on tv. I didn't really know what to make of it at the time. It wasn't til I got home (we got out early due to the attacks) that I realized how serious it was when I saw my fathers reaction. It was a difficult and emotional time that'll always be burned into my memory, not as something terrifying, but an example of how low humanity can get. Gundog
9/11 was f*cked up for me, stressful too. I was 8 or even 9 at the time, and my father was in NY at the time. I was worried as f*ck until he called. It irritated me afterwards, since it was constantly on the telly for weeks. You are an aperture through which the universe is looking at and exploring itself. Drift-Kingz
I woke up on September 9, 2001 and right when I was walking down the hallway towards my living room to watch some TV, I was faced with a breaking news coverage on attack on the twin towers. Right when I had faced it, I just stopped and watched it right from my dining room. I really don't remember the rest, considering the fact I was at a VERY young age at the time. But overall, just shocked. Also, 2 summers ago there was an assault just 2 blocks away from my house, and guess where I was? 5 blocks away playing football with my friends. As I was walking back home I see 5 police vehicles lined up on the street, and a couple of other people. They were like " he pushed him against the fence, took a knife out, and started stabbing his chest. That's when I called the cops ". While the guy was stating that, I spotted a large hole in the fence, right behind his head. After that, I speed walked home. It was pretty scary stuff.. tubbs51
I dont remember the OJ thing... On 9/11 i was in 5th grade at the time, i had just woken up and started getting ready for school. I was putting on my socks when i turned on the Television. I quickly yelled for my mom. She came in and was shocked as hell... Me, my brother, and my sister sat horrified as the second plane hit. When i got to school one of the towers had collapsed. We didnt do much but watch the news the entire day. It was a somber recess too... no dodgeball games no tag, no one playing kick ball or basket ball... all of the older kids just talked and wanted to watch the news some more..... TheBlackProject
OJ: I was only 11 days old when it happened. I was probably sleeping in my bedroom. 9/11: When I came home from school, my parents were watching the news on CNN and it kept showing replays of different camera angles of the plane crashing into the second tower of the WTC. Late 2009: I was at school and asked my teacher to go to the nurse's office, when I was at the nurses office one of my friends with the assistant principal came in and my friend looked sleepy as f*ck. The pledge of allegiance began but since he was sleepy he couldn't find where the American flag was. The AP was being rough on him and telling him where it was, she was a woman with a man's body. The way the AP was talking sounded like he was in big trouble. Turned out that the next day I found out that he took a dose of an illegal sleeping drug and he fell down the stairs, he told me he didn't even feel it. He was trying to get up so the staff wouldn't catch him. When he was sent to the nurses office where I was, it was about 2 minutes after he fell from the stairs. He was charged with a felony for public intoxication and was sentenced to JJAEP. He even met a popular NFL player in court trying to tell him why drugs are bad. He came back to school early this year but he's still going to court. Hopefully his felony gets expunged when he turns 18. They overdid the felony charge anyway, who gets a felony for public intoxication anyway? Edited May 15, 2011 by TheBlackProject

Dymez.
I remember on 9/11 we were starting our History class when we heard. We walked in and my teacher said; "I have serious news. 2 planes crashed into the Twin Towers and it's most likely a terrorist attack." We were like; "Yeah, right. What-the-f*ck-ever!" Reason why is because this teacher once played a prank on us before we started a project on the 'Cuban Missile Crisis.' He told us Cuba had nuclear missiles on line and ready to fire at the U.S. that day and with a straight face. Then he played a tape recording of a radio station reporting it, but pretending it was live. I came in class late that day so he really had me thinking it was really happening right then. But anyway, when we found out about it, alot of us just left the school and went home even though the staff at school urged us to stay. I was worried about my family in New York at the time, I couldn't concentrate on school work and go to practice after something like that.

Guest
On 9/11, I was 7 it was about 9pm, since where I live is an exact 12 hours ahead of NYC time, and I was watching Baby Genius on TV until the breaking news came on. My whole family just sat and we all watched it on the news. I was pretty sad that those towers won't be there again because even then I wanted to live in New York. trip
OJ: I was having a kick ass party in my old apartment when my sister called and said "they're chasing OJ down the highway...It's all over TV". So we put the TV on (mute) and it was crazy background entertainment. 9/11: I was at work. I heard the news of the first hit while in the elevator, and the second tower from one of the many co-workers who had CNN on. sofa_king
I was 21 years old and walking into a Walmart in Jackson Mo. when I saw a crowd gathering in the Cafe area watching a little "19 TV. I found it odd that many were Walmart employees standing there watching the TV instead of working. My curiosity got the better of me so I joined the group, and that's were we watched the events of 911 unfold. OJ is all blurry. all I remember is I bought "OJ's Legal Pad" from Spencer's novelty shop. It had a bunch of doodles and sh*t written in it. Oddsock
OJ: I was four at the time so I don't remember it at all. 9/11: I was 11 and in 8th grade in my second to last class of the day. Rumors started spreading about the Pentagon being attacked and/or New York being attacked. Our teachers looked serious but they weren't relaying any information despite some students saying that some teachers were giving details. The principal came over the intercom and said there was a national emergency and that we would be getting out of school something like 10 or 15 minutes earlier than usual. I didn't know what terrorism was at the time and the only national emergency I had ever really heard of was the Great Depression of the 1930's, and so I started to worry that our economy had somehow crashed again. A few more rumors quelled that and bolstered the claims that something had gotten attacked in NYC. On the bus ride home I started to worry for my parents but rationalized that there was no way either of them would have gone to NYC, a full five hours away (without traffic), without telling my siblings and I. I got home and walked into our living room where my mother was watching CNN showing the smoking Twin Towers and replays of planes smashing into them. She didn't really say anything. It was very surreal, I just couldn't believe this was happening right then.
SHXC
I was in year 6 at primary school. I got home and the news was on all the standard TV channels of 9/11. I didn't know anything about the twin towers or Bin Laden before that. Then I remember years later, in year 8 or 9 in my Spanish class. Another teacher came in and spoke to my Spanish teacher, telling her that there had been bombings in Madrid. She ran out of the class crying. I don't remember there being much news broadcast about the 7/7 London bombings though.
