I used to agree with how simple GTA IV's mission structures are, but come to think of it, previous installments had the same mission structures as IV. Missions have always been "drive there, kill this, maybe steal that" as far as I can remember.

Everyones arguing and complaining about what GTA 4 lacked. I think GTA 4= GTA 3 on a level of entry to a new gen. The lack of 360 disc space, the DLC market was getting bigger and lets just face it. R* is still going to make a 60 dollar game at the end of the day.

people who say.... if u miss features from san andreas, go play it.... are idiots.

sure driving, graphics and physics is better on GTA4.... nothing else is....

theres no country side, half the amount of vehicles, half the amount of weapons, u cant rob houses u cant do ANYTHING on GTA 4 apart from drive around and kill people.

gang wars was NOT better on IV then SA... please explain to me how it was.

GTA 4 WAS a dissapointment to ALOT of people for valid reasons.

stuff was taken out of SA for NO apparent reason... the theme of the storyline wasnt 1 of those reasons... (apart from turf wars, fair play thats strictly an SA type thing)

i could go on and on stating why people who say go play the old GTA's are idiots.

GTA WILL get boring if the next 1 is GTA IV.5... end of.

sorry about my typing style but the screen im on is annoying.

Why are so many people complaining about the lack of a countryside? VC and the old LC didn't have one and I didn't see anyone complain.

maybe because when GTA III and Vice City came out, country side was never in a GTA game, after SA came out it was introduced....

the city gets boring quickly for many people, including me, its nice to have a change of atmosphere.

Mister Pink

Man, all of you lot moaning about GTA IV not having San Andreas features again?? f*ck THAT sh*t, I want the RDR features, let me search dead bodies for money and ammo, let me have an inventory to carry items that can be used in various places, give me the weapon system from RDR and the way to buy ammo, store fronts, interior system, etc.

Hell, again, f*ck SAN ANDREAS, give me the better Parachute Method from TBOGT, give me the better Gang Wars from TLAD, both of those alone make the San Andreas versions look outdated as sh*t.

Rockstar have done things after GTA IV that's been a great improvement on gameplay and how we interact with the game, the feature of TLAD/TBOGT and more importantly, RDR, blow the crap out of San Andreas, all Rockstar have to do for the next game is just keep the code of those features and they're damn well set!

Chill the f*ck out.

Nobody's moaning. He's having a logical discussion about GTA IV. Don't get so offended because someone has a bit of critique of a game. He said it in a mature and mannerly fashion and I was just waiting for the first noob to fly off the handle with a reply like yours.

OP, Mute Giant:

I agree with everything you guys are saying. I mean, Each GTA in III really did well in succeeding the last.

Talking about wow-factor. I didn't really get the wow factor in IV except for the living, breathing city and the physics and graphics. They weren't enough though to keep replay-value as you get used to good graphics etc.

I'm looking for the wow factor again. We're used to sandbox games now.

Also, "the city isn't the star attraction?" Well, I believe that a time/era could be of benefit for that as I mentioned in my topic. The game needs a theme and like Otter mentioned, less of a story that's trying too hard to be serious and more of a zany story.

Personally I think RDR relieved any doubts that I may have had about GTA's future. I dug IV I still do, yea its not SA but thank god, Saints Row seems to have picked up on the over the top style of SA. I feel IV gets a bad rap from alot of SA fanboys who just want to be a gangsta flyin a jet pack in a monster truck in the woods. Do people really want country side in every game? I loved the country side in SA but come on if yur in NYC yur really not headed out to upstate NY to go chill in the barrens.

Ive noticed a trend on the boards within the last month or so where people are startin to second guess how good Next will be and how they are much more into the idea of L.A.Noire and Agent. Thats great to each their own, but honestly the fukin second a logo or screen is released these same people will be all over it like a crackhead on wellfare.

If anythin RDR served notice to the doubters that R* has upped their game even more, again I will say RDR was GTA with a cowboy hat, same game, same structure, a few new features, better story and a better second go at MP that was it. Are people so thick as to think R* wont put these updates in Next or hell expand on them? R* knows whats up they got this so chill, no reason to doubt sh*t on their end, theyve had years to survey what people liked and didnt like not just about IV but also RDR.

Also about the longevity of IV and ELFC they have the same as any past GTA its up to you to find the fun just like in VC or SA. Just because IV didnt change the world the way III didnt doesnt mean anythin, the only way for it to have changed the gamin world would have been if it was full on virtual reality that puts you in LC.

At the end of the day IV served its purpose and did give GTA what it needed which was to be updated and overhauled. Sure they took out a bunch of the campy sh*t (and I miss it to a degree) but I started playin this series as a kid and as Ive grown up a bit (not too much) so has GTA. Honestly if IV was SA Jr. everyone would have bitched and Iv would have flopped just like SR does every single time.

@ThePinkFloydSound I totally agree with you about puttin GTA in a time that is not current and as Ive said before I feel that was a great tool R* used, the nostalgic factor!

every game should have online play.

EDIT : theres lots of improvement needed for GTA online though.

Worth noting that never before has an as yet unannounced GTA main title had not just a minority, but a fairly equal divide between fans in terms of people who are sure it'll be awesome, and people who have thier doubts.

From 3 to VC to SA, people were hyped and expected (and recieved) a better game every 'sequel'. So what's changed?

GTAIV, regardless of anyone's personal opinion, split the comunity in a way that no other main GTA title had done before. Whether you (reading this post) think it was better or worse doesn't even matter.

IV certainly rubbed enough people the wrong way that really, for the first time, a larger than usual portion of the fanbase is worried about the next game instead of hyped.

IF SOMEONE KEPT THROWING you large amounts of delicious candy... eventually you wouldn't want candy anymore. My point is, with GTA4, Rockstar satisfied your GTA craving, but at the same time, still left you wanting more. Exactly what they wanted to do! Furthermore: GTA5 will be IV + fun.

Unlike candy, a videogame isn't going to fill me up to the point I can't handle any more. In any franchise, giving people more and more each time, and then taking it away, will always leave people bitter,

And if you are saying R* intentionally held back with IV to leave themselves somwhere to go with future titles, then you are actually telling me they didn't put out the best game they were capable of.

Totally agree with Reform; it seems R* have left themselves with a ton of work to bring everyone back on board. Outside of these forums, (which let's face it we are going to be biased) there are a good number of consumers who dumped IV even before the DLCs.

Talking of DLC, that will interesting to see how that is handled this time. It's not rocket science to see that R* had the means to stump up more features (TBOGT) if we waved more money at them. Also even the way the game is released could piss folk off again; wether it's DLCs, timed exclusivity or dumb pre order rip offs. (see LA Noire for that backlash)

First off, not really flying off the handle, second, my point was that the San Andreas features are outdated as hell now, and Rockstar have shown the better variations in TBOGT/TLAD and RDR. So people complaining that the next GTA should have San Andreas features is pretty stupid considering they've already better that sh*t in later games. Yes GTA IV was ok if a little boring in places (especially the start) but the gameplay would be soo much more interesting if they brought in the RDR features and the DLC features right off the bat!

It DOESN'T need to be San Andreas, it just needs to keep the new features!

gta iv did improve all that stuff but it left out all the actual gameplay aspects like as many people keep saying, robbing buildings, car customization, variation in map, more weapons and vehicles, and the stadium events and the drivable trains and jetpacks

ah right u didnt see my edit haha srry my bad

not really, reform kind of hit the nail on the head to be honest. and even with every feature and option on every grand theft auto, theres still plenty of ideas that havent yet been touched that could have easily made it into IV

Is it so surprising that those who weren't disappointed by IV are the same that are expecting 5 to be really good? And the likelyhood is they will really like it, too. But does that mean anything to those who were, and aren't? It's not a hard concept to digest.

That said, I am expecting 5 to be good. I think R* know they have to make it amazing, and not hold back this time.
