fireguy109
The other day I was in class and all the seniors were leaving early for prom. First there were the convertibles and expensive cars, the popular kids sitting in them waiting for their girlfriends. Once they all left there were the everyday cars, Cobalts and G6s etc. Finally, there were the parents in the minivans. As you went down the line, the level of popularity decreased. I am a big fan of the American Graffiti and Henry Gregor Felsen ages where the coolest muscle car = most popular w/ best girlfriend. What I'm asking is, do you feel that this era is gone- the era of cars equaling popularity? Anybody ever seen The Fast and the Furious- Tokyo Drift? remember that seen at the beginning with all the cool kids getting out of school driving the expensive cars? There is a correlation between Mommy and Daddy's income and the car they drive. The reason I'm asking is I have a stake in this for myself. I am not very popular, but I do have a group of friends, several female. I have two years before I start driving, although I've already driven on my property. Where I live the weather is extremely bad in winter and there's enough humidity to rot the crap out of a car (my uncle had a new 70 Torino- the floor rotted completely out in a year). But I am more of a fan of Muscle Cars than the '08 G6 that will be passed down to me from my sister. Should I go with the practical G6 or an awesome muscle car? A year ago this guy my dad knows listed his dad's '70 Cutlass for only $1,000. This thing was perfect- I know because I had seen it. So gems do exist around here. 1. Is the cars=popularity era gone? 2. If not, should I go with the Muscle car (maybe a '70 Camino or similar year Olds/Chevy) or the G6? Please discuss. tuff_luv_capo
Don't spend money you don't have to buy things you don't want to impress people you don't like. Also if you're just looking for ass get a Mustang. You'll be beating people off with both hands.

I couldn't park it inside a garage, so it would probably rust out in a year.

fireguy109
judging from the topic title and its contents I fail to see how this is about practicality I meant that is it better to be practical and go with the all-wheel-drive snow-proof G6 or have fun with the 2wd muscle car, but never mind, I guess. Jesus, it's all relative man! Some people will like you more because you have a "cool car". Some people will think that "cool car" is lame, and/or ugly and/or stupid. Not everyone has the same tastes, and not everyone has the same personality/beliefs/attitude. Some people love cars but will think no less of you if you don't own one, or have a bland/generic/piece of sh*t car. I could literally go back and forth like this all day. In short, it really depends on the specific person. Edited May 15, 2011 by *MURDOC*
sivispacem
Indeed, it is all relative. For instance, I've never had what you might term a "pussy magnet" Two 4WD Audis aren't likely to get anyone wet, the couple of E36s I had before it I owned just at the time they'd started to commonly seen covered in "Type R" stickers and Vileside imitation bodywork. And as for anything before those? Bolt or weld-in cages are apparently a turn-off, especially if you have to explain "oh that's to stop me getting crushed if I roll it". Fozzy Fozborne
"Cool cars" are useless if they only have 2 seats. If you're going to be spending a ton of money on a muscle car with zero MPG, you might as well get an SUV you can pile friends into. Jeep Grand Cherokees have always been "cool cars", if not "pussy magnets". Wow, I just wrote pussy magnet... anyways if you want to go one louder get a Nissan Armada. Those things are big enough to crush those convertibles without even noticing. I'm curious as to where you live. Any modern car will not rot due to humidity. Most have huge rust warranties and are coated with additives to prevent rust and rot.
friendly luggage
In the UK we cant drive untill were 18 so alot of people in their final year of school buy a moped or 50cc bike. Also we cant buy any pussy magnets for our first cars because I would love an old BMW or Cosworth but the insurance would be like £4000+ Anyways Ive been invited to have a lift in some car my friends uncle owns or something to prom. I wish I knew what it was I heard him say something about andycars which is a taxi service so we will probably go in a people carrier lol The UK car market is now being ruined by cheap korean and malaysian cars like kias, protons and hyundais... I love watching old police chase footage because you see old fiestas, escorts, old rovers, mk2 transits etc etc Im not sure what cars girls are interested in though by the way. Umm Citreon saxo diesel maybe lol

Also we cant buy any pussy magnets for our first cars because I would love an old BMW or Cosworth but the insurance would be like £4000+ Not always. If you look a little further afield and go for obscure cars, those not usually associated with younger drivers, and classics, your insurance will be surprisingly low. I know someone who was paying £900 a year on a Volvo 850 T5 when I was paying about £1100 on a 1.4 VW Polo (albeit a track-prepped one). The UK car market is now being ruined by cheap korean and malaysian cars like kias, protons and hyundais... I love watching old police chase footage because you see old fiestas, escorts, old rovers, mk2 transits etc etc What? I can't tell you the last time I saw a Proton on the road. Plus, if I look out of (SWMBO's) window, what do I see? Two VW polos, a Golf, a Rover 75, a Mercedes Sprinter, a 330i coupe, a Corsa Post Office van, a Volvo V50, two Astras and a Mitsubishi L200. I don't see anything Korean in that list. Im not sure what cars girls are interested in though by the way. Umm Citreon saxo diesel ma]be lol If a girl gets damp at the thought of a diesel Saxo, especially if it's full of badly arranged speakers, has wheels that look like pie dishes or has some hideous fast and furious body kit, I'd run. Run as fast as I could, a long way away. Women who like bikes, 'specially fast sports/super-sports/naked bike = great. Women who like fast cars, track driving and getting filthy under the bonnet = also great. Women who get aroused by the size of your subwoofers, the girth of your body kit or the diameter of your chrome wheels = not great. Modifying a cheap hatchback in such a way is like working hard at the gym, yet having a 2" cock. Yes, you can spend lots of money, pretty yourself up and sometimes even attract a woman, but in every way that matters you are nigh-on useless. friendly luggage
Sorry I got the age wrong Oh and im not into chaved up cars by the way. I think the the whole boy racer thing is starting to die down anyway. A saxo with a massive spoiler and nasty halfords wheels isnt my type of car, but a bit of trim looks nice. Think of the futo next to the GT version. Ill be able to drive next year in January and I think my insurance will be a bit cheaper if I get no claims on my Derbi GPR50. Oh and my grammar isnt the best because im on my android at the moment. Takes like 3x longer to write.
