A4 X7-G600 Keyboard compatibility

Hey people. Today I bought A4tech x7 g600 gaming keyboard and I'm very impressed of it. biggrin.gif

But something is freaking me out. I read in the user's guide that this keyboard is compatible with Windows 98, Me, 2000, 2003 and Windows XP.

My question is: will this keyboard work with Windows 7 Ultimate x64? I'm gonna buy a gamer PC soon and I will install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on it.

I need some replies, cuz I bought this keyboard specially for my new gamer pc, not for my old one. smile.gif

It'll work fine. Im sure that A4tech do a nice package of drivers to keep full functionality with 7.

In fact, according to their website, no drivers will be needed.

I hope so. Why they don't write the compatibility with at least Windows Vista? Cuz this is a 2010 product, a new one!!

Anyway, what you say about this keyboard? It's is pretty for a decent gamer like me?

Personal opinion here, but I think gaming keyboards and gaming mice are overrated. I've got some cheap Microsoft keyboard and mouse that work fine, and I still kick ass in any games I play.

Well for mice I wouldn't say it's overrated, because you control the whole gameplay with that mouse. A 800 DPI and 3600 DPI mouse is not same at all smile.gif

And yes, I agree with you that gaming keyboards are bit overrated because keyboard it's only keyboard. You press buttons and letters appear on screen.

I bought this keyboard only because it has a nice orange W, A, S, D buttons.

Anti-ghosting for gamer is a must, and that alone makes gaming keyboards worth it.

This is exactly what I've been looking for. Anti-ghosting without all of the BS of macro buttons and other crap that you need drivers and special software installed for.

Now to be honest I'm not a fan of the bright orange buttons but I could learn to live with it.

No drivers at all need to be installed. Gold star winner right there for me.

PS/2 well that sucks. I would prefer it to be USB mostly because PS/2 connections are being phased out.

@Ryan

Gaming mice are not overrated at all. I did use to think the same thing at first. Then I found an awesome deal for a Logitech MX-518 mouse for $10 after rebate and had to jump on it.

This is a pretty basic gamer mouse. The only thing that really makes it a gaming mouse is the fact that it has the ability to have up to 1800DPI which is adjustable down to 200DPI which can be done on the fly.

A great example of this is in Battlefield Bad Company 2. When I'm on foot, running and gunning, I'll be at the middle default setting (not really sure what the DPI for that is off hand). Get in a tank or mounted rocket launcher or the gun seat of a helo and turn it up to 1800DPI. Why? Because with the normal setting the turret/gun turns very slowly, but turn up the DPI and it's instantly twice as fast. Now sometimes while sniping I might turn it down to the lowest setting to I can fine tune my shot.

Sure I could turn up the mouse sensitivity in-game to the highest setting use a normal mouse. But that would screw me up on foot and more so while sniping and only help me while in a tank and others.

I can also use the lower setting of the MX-518 while in Photoshop again for fine tuned and more easier to control work there.

I did originally run the mouse with Logitech's drivers and software installed. Then I reinstalled my OS and have yet to reinstall the drivers and I still get the same default 3 DPI settings. Now if I wanted to have more than 3 levels and program the buttons for certain things that for whatever reason the in-game settings won't let the mouse be configured for then I would install the drivers again. but then I have yet to find a game that won't let me configure any of the mouse buttons for something.

Gaming mice with weights? Well that for me I'd have to try it and see if that does anything for me. I don't really care what it does for others because that's them and everyone has their own taste.

I will say this about gaming keyboards that do have macros and again this goes back to BFBC2. I hear some friends on TeamSpeak talking about adjusting their brightness for different things they are doing be it on foot vs flying a helo vs tank, not sure if they mean in-game on the monitor itself. If we assume it's in-game and if a macro button a gaming keyboard would do it then using that to adjust brightness would be a big help. But if it's the monitor then there's no real hope there other than if the monitor itself has some special presets they can use.

1. There are 8 spare keycaps and one key puller in the package, so you can remove at any time those bright orange buttons and you can place a simple ones (like other buttons).

2. There are PS/2 (female) to USB (male) keyboard adapters if you don't like PS/2 connectors. Although, I prefer using PS/2 keyboards because you will have problems accessing to BIOS from USB keyboard.

1) ok cool I can deal with that. Now the next step is finding the bloody thing in the US

2) I didn't know about those. I thought I had a search for something like that once that turned up empty. I do know about the opposite ones; USB to PS/2 because a few from the MS mice I've had in the past. As to the BIOS issue, I don't think I've seen any BIOS have uses with USB keyboards themselves at least not in the last 5 or 6 years. However there is an issue with USB keyboards and MS-DOS, that is to say if you booted with an XP disc to install or repair the OS then the keyboard won't work, but on the flip side there is these days a setting in the BIOS that will make it so a USB keyboard can function with MS-DOS it's just that by default this setting is disabled..at least in some mobos.

Ok today I bought A4tech X7 XL-750BK Oscar Laser Gaming Mouse, which is also a driver-free (I hate installing drivers, and that's because I bought this gaming mouse and keyboard that doesn't require a driver).

Any comments?

I agree, they are overrated, i like to find a mouse that is pretty comfy when i can.

I think it is more the cool designs that are usually involved.

Damn! being here makes me want to start PC gaming again, when the price of SSDs comes down a bit and bigger sizes are available i will be into it.
