240-185
Hi everyone, I've just bought a genuine retail copy of GTA IV. Nice game, with usual flaws in Rockstar 3D games (I'm playing GTA since GTA III). But I'm experiencing right now a nasty bug: when I go to the [email protected] cybercafé in Broker and browse the virtual web, I noticed I received Niko's mother's first mail. When I try to reply, the game crashes. No error code. My configuration: Intel i5 2400 4 GB of RAM ATI HD 5770 x2 (Crossfired) Windows 7 Professional x64 Did anyone get a crash at this very moment? Girish
That's weird. I'm not entirely sure, but try disabling CF and see how it goes. A lot of people have reported that IV doesn't work well with CF or SLI, so maybe your issue has something to do with that. Won't hurt to try it out. 240-185
Just tried disabling CrossFireX => no game at all
Girish
What do you mean by 'no game'? Does it not start at all? Does it crash at start?
240-185
The game exits right after the main menu, when loading a saved game/launching a new game… So I switched back to CF. I can suspect some corrupted text because of the localization (I'm French, so I'm playing GTA IV in French).
Girish
It could be settings related. Once you disable CF, delete all files from the Settings folder before starting the game. They're located here - C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\Settings The Appdata folder is hidden, so you will have to unhide all files and folders first. mkey82
What did you do to disable crossfire?
bzzzt
I've the same problem, but I don't have crossfire. I've had problems in the past with corrupted autosave files, and I thought that this problem was related, but it is not. I tried girishb's advice to remove the settings, to no effect. I do not know if this is related, but I experience video stuttering during cutscenes and when using the e-mail interface—it does not seem to be related to crashes. I had my system locale set to Japanese, then reset it to English (United States). The problem persists. SPECS: I purchased my game from Steam and play it in English. I have not modded it. mkey82
Does 7 have that "disable advanced text services" setting?
bzzzt
Does 7 have that "disable advanced text services" setting? It seems that option was removed with Vista; the relevant process doesn't even run in 7 so one can't kill it by Task Manager. I suspect it can only be disabled by heavy wizardry, if at all. mkey82
Even though, there is no actual text input in those emails, so this really shouldn't be a problem.
