Dymez.
EA's Syndicate remake is 'a GTA wannabe' EA's still-not-announced Syndicate remake is set to surprise fans with Grand Theft Auto-style gameplay, compared to the isometric strategy format of the Bullfrog original. That's according to Fredrik Wester, CEO of Magicka dev Paradox Interactive, which is based in Stockholm, Sweden - not far from the developer heavily-tipped to be behind the new Syndicate, Riddick house Starbreeze. According to a Kotaku interview with Wester, he's been privy to information on the neighbouring studio's remake and it's "more like a GTA wannabe than it's like the original game." The remake has been strongly rumoured for what seems like forever now, and last year Starbreeze confirmed that it had canned it's other project, based on Jason Bourne, to focus on one game. CVG was of course among the first to out the remake, as we exclusively reported back in 2008 that the Bullfrog original was indeed getting a current-gen makeover. The Bullfrog original was released in 1993 and later followed up in 1996 by Syndicate Wars. The game put players in charge of a militant global corporation, and tasked them with leading cyborg agents around a gritty cyberpunk world rescuing captured allies and assassinating rival syndicate executives. It was awesome. [ Source: Kotaku ]

gta_king
Read the article guys, they're saying the REMAKE has more in common with GTA then it does the original Syndicate. They're not saying that the original was a GTA wannabe or anything like that, just that for the remake they've went down the route of having GTA style gameplay. Creed Bratton
So what if they want to make a GTA-like game? Isn't GTA what we like on this forum? I sure hope so. GTA "clones" never bothered me. I love free roaming games.

jelly
The isometric view is not what made Syndicate. In 1993, it was a great solution to an obvious problem - first person shooters looked terrible, and third person shooters didn't exist. The isometric view allowed them to make a game that looked great for its time, and add details like detailed urban landscapes, hundreds of animated pedestrians wandering the city, etc, that wouldn't be possible otherwise. In Syndicate Wars, which was 3D isometric as opposed to 2D, it was just annoying. They seemed to realise it and added a couple of mechanics, like pivoting the camera around using keys, and one button that made buildings transparent.. to let you see what was actually going on. One was very cumbersome, and the other was plain ridiculous. Syndicate = atmosphere (unsettling), setting (dystopian near-future), and HBO-exaggerated violence. Not the perspective of the first game, chosen for technical reasons.

gta_king
I don't really have any problems with it, I've been wanting a GTA Game with a cyberpunk/dystopian setting for quite some time so I welcome it. It probably helps as well that I was quite young when Syndicate was around so while I do like it, I don't really hold it in that high regard so this sort of thing doesn't bother me as much. This said I would like to see some sort of persuade-a-tron, upgrade system in there like the original. I think if they incorporated that along with the free roam system it could be a very good game while retaining some of the original Syndicate in there. AceRay
I love free roaming games. You have never played Pimp my Ride. EA is making this game so it won't be that good. They should stick to racing and sports.

Ah of course because EA are incapable of producing a good game, sort of how Battlefield, Dead Space, Crysis, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Bulletstorm were all published by EA and aren't any good right? Haha, well to be fair it's usually due to publisher pressure on the developers that causes the sub-par games and EA did used to be a company that was quite bad for this. In recent years they have eased off and the quality has improved but the reputation still remains.

Frankly we don't care, if you don't care to put effort into your own post Maybe it sailed over your head, but what he's getting at is that calling this a "remake" is pretty effing stupid. It's like if the original Mario Bros game was remade as a tactical card battle game. I mean, really, it looks like... well, OK, it looks pretty uninspired, but perhaps it IS a retelling of the game's story. But it's an entirely different game! It's sort of insulting to use the same title, and call it a remake.
meta187
Video gaming is dead to me. You're a long time member here who's usually a bit more articulate so I am curious about that statement. EDIT: Otter may have covered it for you. And it certainly looks different than the original, not awful or anything just way different and a bit of a knock off of some current games maybe. I'll reserve any rash judgements at this juncture. Sergi
I don't see how anyone can really say gaming is dead because this game is nothing like the original or even give such a blatant knock on a game they really know nothing about other then a brief snyopsis and a trailer. And what exactly makes this look like a knock off of anything? I can't name 1 game from the trialer that makes this game seem like it's a knock off of another game. It actually looks interesting and isn't a modern war set game. And honestly how much different do people really think gaming can get from genre to genre now a days? Almost everyhting has been in some other game at 1 point and when its in a different game they have to change the mechanincs or try something new. The only thing that will really seperate games now a days is the art style and storyline. This is just like how people were so down on Max Payne 3 on here and knew very little about the game but were calling it a failure because it wasn't like the 1st 2.
