Hello GTAF Vehicle modders!

As you may have noticed, it has been quite some time since a GTAF competition was held. Much so a competition regarding Vehicles. (since 2009)

If you are interested and willing to participate in the next GTAF MOD COMPETITION, then please vote and reply in this topic:

MOD COMP SURVEY

We are currently gauging the amount of interest and participants to warrant a competition, so your vote/participation as well as suggestions would be greatly appreciated to help kick things off. smile.gif

Please remember to reply in the topic with your name and mod area or else the vote will not count.

Any details such as: poly limit, for which GTA series, theme, and such will be provided once an actual competition starts.

Any suggestions, discussions or ideas in regards to a vehicle competition, please keep to this topic for our future reference.

icon14.gif Sure I am, unless it is in my examns period (next two weeks). So if we're gonna do it, let it start in two weeks, I got loads of time then biggrin.gif!

I'm only going to participate if the competition is about San Andreas. Polylimits suck imo, I don't see a point in limiting it. "Can you do a vehicle under x polies" is not where a competition should be about, in my opinion.

I don't see a point in limiting

A reasonable limit will be discussed to allow participants a fair amount of room to breathe as well as to keep them on their toes to be creative and smart with their use of poly/tris and textures.

A render model trumps a games-spec model in detail especially in vehicles, a limit is set to provide fair competitor balance not to mention game engine issues may arise if say a 4 billion polygon audi were to make it in-game.

As much as possible we would like the competition to be catered towards game/realtime environments rather than render-models.

SA has a polylimit, so why would you wanna do a lower poly limit? I don't see the importance of it: "Look at me, I'm good at staying under a certain polylimit". f*cking yee-haah. It's stupid. Polylimits matter in a modeling competition, not in a modding competition. It's about the mod, not about the model imo.

Yes, but this is a modding competition for GTA. A GTA mod (anything 3D such as vehicles, maps, characters) consists of models that have polycounts and limitations in-game.

And anything 3D counts as a modeling competition, and getting it in-game specifically for GTA counts it as a mod. Unless this logic is flawed, then please elaborate.

The point of a competition is to see how far the participants can take their creativity given a set amount of rules and conditions.

It would help us if you could please express your opinion in a less violent manner instead of calling such things stupid, etc. Like I said, the more input and suggestions given to the competition the better we can deliberate about competition rules and such.

Either way I'd personally like to see a limit of some sort, my only desktop is so old I can't even run 3DS Max..time constraints and high poly limits aren't exactly fun with Zmod.

Of course there should be polylimit, there's no real challenge in contests if there wouldn't be any limits imo.

So yeah, I'm in too and 25k sounds good, you can get enough details already with that amount.

For which GTA GAMES? Can we make for SA? Does it needs to be scratch?

Either SA or IV (or both should it be decided as appropriate), it would be decided once the competitions kick off and the details are discussed and made public.

There could be fully scratch-made competitions or competitions that require you to modify or use a given model/resource/etc. from a GTA game (Like a competition that requires you to use a BF injection engine/part in your entry <--- this was actually done before if anyone still remembers). But no conversions from other games obviously for the same reasons and rules stated here in the mod showroom.

@puma: I did read it, and I even quoted it. If you feel so strongly against a poly limit in a given competition, then you are free not to participate until a competition arises wherein a poly limit is set to null (no limit) or the limit meets your satisfaction.

A competition has rules and limits to provide a challenge to it's participants, and having a poly limit is one possible rule/limitation.

I'm not against it, I just think it's unnecessary to have a good competition.

it would be nice to see a competition but please make some real rules this time

1.competition should be on a single subject so that its easier to grade the results

2.all participants should make the SAME CAR

3.the details are not released of the vehicle until the start of the competition

4.the blue prints are supplied by a trustworthy moderator - -

5.the car doesn't have to be put in-game straight away- as this has put people off in the past- running out of time etc

7.the vehicle for the competition must be 1 that hasn't been modeled anywhere else if possible- so nobody can just RIP OFF another artists work

8.there is a proper time frame for the subject (REALISTIC)

9.there is a poly limit

10. there is a texture limit

11. vehicles should be totally scratch or you could have a (CONVERSION) competition for the people who cant really model well

----

NOTE - there are many people who have grown up now and don't have time to frequent gta forums ... it would maybe be a good idea to send out some emails to some of the classic members from a bygone era

remember some of our excellent artists from the past

i recall majestic are an awesome car creator... can anyone remember others who havent posted in a long time

Same car everyone? Where's the fun part?

you'll get the same old story------ here s 1 i prepared earlier .......

if your doing a competition make it all equal.... if not people will cheat ,its not about fun its about being the BEST in a particular subject matter , but you should always enjoy what you create

the basic idea is if you all make the same car everybody's will be slightly different ...Different wheels different textures different body ... Somebody will make the perfect popular plus model straight out the showroom somebody will make the riced model with bigger wheel arches lowered suspension racing tyre's and side skirts etc ... It's all about being the most creative on the given subject - I THINK Gonni god

Are we getting a prize here? No.

This is for fun, means we should be able to do what WE want. With some minor restrictions.

Your suggestions and opinions are noted. smile.gif

The competition rules can be as specific as telling the competitors to model a specific type of vehicle (sedan, sports, heli, bike, cop car), to just requiring that there are 2 doors that open. Or as vague as having it be for land/terrestrial vehicle or as long as it has a seat.

Even though there will be rules/limits/or possibly a theme for a competition, we wouldn't want to force anything to the participants that would leave them too limited with their freedom. Which is why we appreciate the suggestions and opinions we are receiving so we can better streamline a set of rules for a competition that could cater to the wants of the participants while providing them with enough of a challenge to work with.

There are of course, no prizes other than recognition. This is a forum community after all and we're obviously not allowed to give away cash prizes or anything material. smile.gif

That's not fun. I never worked with blueprints, and I don't want to make exactly the same car as everyone else. If we're going that way, I'm out. The only thing that is judged when the competition goes that way, is how good everyone is at modeling from blueprints, and that is just dumb work. Everyone has its own ways to model his/her models and you're totally cutting thát down by setting op those specific rules. It's not a school here suicidal.gif . I'm not going to put my time in learning to model via blueprints, just because it would be a rule for the competition. It's disrespectful to other people's way of making their models/mods.
