WF the Hobgoblin Posted May 13, 2011 Share Posted May 13, 2011 I don't think it something you can teach, making friends just happens. I've always been pretty antisocial. I very rarely initiate conversations with strangers and show little to no interest in engaging in small talk. Despite this, I can't say I've ever had trouble making friends. Admittedly my social life isn't quite as great as back when I was at school but that's because I don't really do anything other than going to the pub and nightclubs with a bunch of guys I've been friends with since school. If you're at university, it should be pretty easy since you're basically forced to be around people your own age. The only issue I had with making friends at uni was that I was in a computer science course and a large proportion of my classmates were, well... geeks / nerds etc who all got on well with each other and told binary jokes and such. But I did fairly quickly identify the people more like me and went on to be good friends with some of them. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

So yea, just talk to the people who sit around you. Ask for help or add something to their conversation if they seem friendly. People are not going to think youre weird. You could also join a school club, great way to make friends and pursue something you like. Theres always the school bar, but I dunno how that goes Small talk is fine to begin with. Plus propably few friends from school but i dont hang around with them on my spare time expect sometimes at school. What i do is try to make a little conversation about some things me and someone else have in common and it starts from that.
