Finn 7 five 11
Call Of Duty: Black Ops... extremely over hyped and very bad. It has got to be the worst Call Of Duty game I've played. I agree that game was waaay overhyped, i mean everyone must have expected it to be modern warfare 2 +10%. I don't see how it is that bad though, the maps weren't great for sniping the aiming was a little different, more kick in the weapons, but otherwise i don't see why people say it is so bad in comparison to MW2 its stupid really. EmoNinja909
Call Of Duty: Black Ops... extremely over hyped and very bad. It has got to be the worst Call Of Duty game I've played. the maps weren't great for sniping the aiming was a little different. They handicapped snipers, which are next to useless now. No stopping power either, it's ridiculous. Sometimes I'll get 2 hitmarkers in a row, then the person I just shot turns at me and kills me with a AK74u burst fire from the other side of the map. It gets frustrating, especially for people who snipe.
Chimpso
Black ops was overrated, but is still a great game. When it came out, almost all of my male friends on Facebook were spamming "gonna get black ops 2day!" every 5 seconds. That being said, it's an amazing game. Loved the confusing storyline (no sarcasm).

d0mm2k8
Yeah I said more or less the same thing in another forum and the only response I got was"your tiny brain just couldn't wrap itself around the complex story and great characters." What f-ing story? Having GLADos and Wheatley taunt you throughout the game is great humor but other than a couple of funny twists the story was practically nonexistent. Jeez the fanboys. Trust me, to say Portal 2 has no story just shows that his response was correct and you have no idea what a story actually is. No offence intended. Most overhyped games ever are GTA IV and MW2 for me. GTA IV was good but could of been far better and MW2 was garbage compared to what I was expecting. Lesson I learned; don't buy annual crap and don't expect too much.

pyramid head
No, tell us what you really think, pyramid head. Boring missions nearly all missions are identical go here kill that person, destroy that car, retrieve that package etc only 1 mission is very different and that's the rob the bank mission. Niko whining about how he needs money and when he get's it he does f**k all with it. Boring gameplay, not much to do outside of missions. Seemingly overlong missions intros, just get to the f*****g point and let me play the game if i want to know the mission givers life story which they insist on telling me i will look it up on the GTA wiki. Dwayne and Playboy x, Dwayne is depressing and Playboy x is just annoying. Unrealistic cops managing to survive a grenade or rocket being detonated at point blank range. The realism which is just another word for boring, for GTA5 no realism, lots and lots of OTT gameplay which is what GTA is known for. Honestly it sounds like you just don't really like GTA.. maybe try out some Saints Row or somethin..? I do like GTA, it's just that GTA4 fell far short of my and many others expectations, I have all the other GTA games so it can't be said i don't like GTA. Tycek
Far Cry 2 - definitely overrated game with oversized map and boring missions. This game was trying to tell interesting story, but way of speaking was terrible. Good thing I paid only 9 euro for this. Prototype - practically Hulk with some kind of blades to use. Dull story and terrible graphics. Mafia II - overrated game, with story copied from Goodfellas, not so great graphics and gameplay copied from games like The Getaway (but TG was better). Developers cut almost half of the game and later were trying to cover it with some sh*tty add-ons. Godfather especially the first one. Terribly made game that was getting good notes, because of the title and some connections to Coppola's movie. Uncharted series - Tomb Raider with guy instead of woman. The graphics are great, the stories are okay, but the gameplay is very repetitive.

d0mm2k8
RDR, yawn. Although you're probably expecting flame, I'm going to tell you that I slightly agree. I played through RDR once and played a bit of MP but that was it. Never been compelled to play it since and the thought of it generally bores me; don't know if it's to do with being 'console only' or not but still. Good game but it isn't enough and wasn't that great of an experience, in my opinion.
sonnyBlack
Halo 2. I love the series, for a while it was very close to surpassing the GTA series for me. Needless to say when I first heard Halo 2 was being released, I was very excited. The 8 minute trailer they released for it about a year or so before it was finally released blew me away entirely. I loved the trailer so much I even watch it from time to time to this day, and back then it really made Halo 2 look like it was going to be the most epic game of the series yet. I was gravely disappointed when I finally got a copy of it only to find out that just about all the cool sh*t from that trailer was cut from the game. The level was so different from what they previously had shown, it was crap in comparison. But being the fanboy that I was at the time, I didn't want that to affect too much of my enjoyment of the game, so I played on but found a few more gripes along the way. The Elites in this version now spoke English, I think your helmet was supposed to have some built in translator or something so you can understand what the enemies are saying, which imo personified them too much and took away from their once animalistic nearly savage like behavior from the original game. But I still played on. The final straw was that goddamn Arbiter. I mean here we are playing as humanity's last hope to save mankind from these aliens waging war on us and all of a sudden Bungie wants us to play through the perspective of those Covenant assholes? Maybe if it was in a separate game in the series I wouldn't have minded it so much, but to play as two characters on different sides in the same game during the same campaign? No thank you, it took away from the experience for me since every time I started to get into the story of that character, I was nearing the end of the level and forced to play from a different perspective somewhere else. It made the story less engaging. Since I really only enjoyed playing on humanity's side, Halo 2 was only half a game for me. The overall story to it was pretty neat though, but as far as execution went, they were way off. The game was too short and they tried to cram too much info into too small of a time frame. Dymez.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops. At first, it was fun. I loved CoD4 but MW2 and Black Ops were kinda fun for a little while but got boring really fast. I thought it was just me but after reading here, I guess not. I was thinking maybe I'm just tired of FPS but I have enjoyed others and I'm highly interested in Battlefield 3, so... It's that CoD series (after CoD4) just isn't for me anymore. For some reason, I feel they're just surviving off of their name right now instead of their actual game.
trip
Without a doubt - Call Of Duty. That game has people running out buying consoles and only ever playing one game - COD. They aren't gamers, they are just falling for the COD hype. I believe it is this Podcast that exemplifies it best. Or it might be on the edisode before that one. I'm too lazy to check. Edit: Only because I'm sitting here listening to Out of the Game ep 20 again. I'm not going to go into the history, but just so you know ,Out of the Game, is like the 4th or 5th name for this podcast. If you consider yourself a gamer this is the gem of gems of podcasts. These guys have some of the richest history in the game world and follow no rules while living on edge. They all have gotten into serious career trouble because of how they behave and what they say. They serve no favors and don't hold back on anything. Anyway Out of the Game main page. I can't recommend it enough. And mods, if you consider removing this link please don't. It isn't me advertising or anything, it is just an offer up to everyone here so they can become smarter gamers and people in general. Ottae
I never understoof the appeal of Halo 3. I played through the storyline and wasn't compelled by it at all. The shooting mechanics were very annoying and the whole game just didn't impress me too much. The multiplayer wasn't much better either, probably worse tbh, never understood the appeal. Xboxless
I must admit, Portal 2 is something I would recommend as a renter. Seriously, you finished the SP in two days, and then the CO-OP in two days. That's a four day game, for 60 bucks. They should have at least kept the challenges thing (IE: Fewest steps, fewest portals) that would have at least bred some more life into it. Decent gameplay, once you have played portal 1 you played portal 2. It's not necessarily a bad thing but not nearly as awesome as the jump from nothing to portal 1. I think the main reason for the hype is that half the people who bought it never even played the first one. If you have played the first one then portal 2 is not quite "revolutionary". Hell I wouldn't call the first one revolutionary, what can you take from both portals and add to the gaming scene?
Little William
I am surprised no one put in this one: GTA IV. It was hyped to the sh*ts, after playing it, it is biggest disappointment of the GTA series. I know people who regret buying IV and swap for something else. The story was crap, the protag is just a big contradiction and the city is totally dull and boring with no countryside. EFLC did not really regain my respect for GTA. If R* going continue the same direction with V, I am giving up GTA for good, together with a lot of people I know who would do the same. Edit: I see a lot of IV dissers here. I am glad we have the same thinking. Edited May 13, 2011 by Little William
agent17
Everything in the Crysis series. They spent so much time looking the game look beautiful, yet the game play was hardly revolutionizing. It's a shame all of that beauty was wasted on mediocre gameplay. I can tell people are getting tired of FPS games, I refuse to get another until HL2:Ep 3 comes out. Menaced
Team Fortress 2 - Played it quite a few times on both PC and console and admittedly, I had a few good moments, but in my opinion, it wasn't anything amazing, unique or overly brilliant like some people make it out to be. Black Ops - I enjoyed the previous Call of Duty's (perhaps less so Modern Warfare 2) but Black Ops was the worse of the bunch for me. The single player campaign was decent enough but I found the multiplayer was chronic to play and not deserving of the hype and popularity it gets. Dead Rising 2 - Got it for my birthday and, for a while, I was having great fun, but very soon it got boring and keeping up with Katie's Zombrex got quite tedious, so not before long I gave it up and traded it in - I was definitely expecting better. Dead Rising 2 sucked, getting the kid her stupid zombrex was annoying it turned the game into one long fetch quest, why couldn't some of the other losers in the shelter get it for me, the games designers should have put a zombrex vending machine in the shelter it would have made life so much easier. I got tired of the game within a day or two and traded it in for something else, for what exactly i forget. Zombies have been done to death, no pun intended. Zombies are the past Necromorphs are the future. My wishlist for Dead Rising 3, no kids needing zombrex and no fetch quests.
d0mm2k8
I can summarize Portal 2s story in one sentence "trying to escape facility while crazy robot tries to stop you" You forgot about the entire part of the game which delves into the history of Aperture Labs and the characters origins. The story doesn't just mean 'the events of the game'. You're forgetting the entire mythology in which the game stands on, which shows you obviously don't know what a 'story' is. Please tell me, what games to you do have a good story?

Real character progression with *Gasp* believable romance in a action game!?!?! The apeture back story is BACK story when I think of a game with great story I don't think about what happened before the game started. Lets make something clear I don't hate Portal 2. In fact I liked it quite a lot the humor can't be beat and some of the puzzles really did make me think (one flat out stumped me) but I honestly can't see it as game of the year. Scharkey
No matter how much you say CoD is hyped too much it is still one of the most active multiplayer fps' to date. People put thousands of hours into it, not because of the hype it gets, but because of the gameplay. I don't like how accurate the weapons can be but it is an extremely enjoyable experience playing in pub matches against really crappy people. I mean, how can you go wrong with this massacre?
