IlhanK
Hello, I have a problem that is not entirely GTA-related but still maybe you guys can help me out. The reason I'm posting here in this forum is because I am unable to post anything in the official GFWL-Forums, when I try so sign in here I get a "Invalid User Credentials" response and when I click "Join" I get the response "GamerTag not found". Ridiculous really. I even created a brandnew second GFWL-account, but that doesn't work either. So, I have a couple of games that use GFWL, for instance GTA, SF4, Batman AA and so on. I recently bought Resident Evil 5 and... well... immidiatly installed a nude patch ftw . Like in the other GFWL-titles at the very beginning of the game GFWL signs in with my GamerTag, but with an additional "Offline Mode" in brackets . I didn't think much of it, and yesterday a friend also bought RE5 so that we could play online coop. So in order to play without any troubles I deinstalled RE5 and then reinstalled it. So I start it up, RE5 asks for my serial number, I type it in, I'm signed in now in a regular way, without "Offline Mode" in brackets. But RE5 doesn't recognise my Savegames. My RE5-achievements are still there though. And now when I try to play other GFWL-titles like GTA and so on, all my Savegames and progress are gone!!!!! GTA savegames: Gone!!! EFLC savegames: Gone!!! Batman AA savegames: Gone!!! SF4 savegames: Gone!!! What the F***!?!?! So, what I tried is, I removed my profile from GFWL and then re-added it. This action made my RE5-savegames re-appear again. But the savegames from the other games are still missing. I also deinstalled GFWL and reinstalled, but that didn't help. What am I supposed to do? I want my savegames back!!! Anyone knows what's going on?! EDIT: Problem solved Scroll down for answer. Edited May 13, 2011 by IlhanK
mkey82
Offline savames =/= online savegames. If you create an offline profile, your savegames are stored locally, if you create an online profile, the savegames are stored on their server.
IlhanK
Offline savames =/= online savegames. If you create an offline profile, your savegames are stored locally, if you create an online profile, the savegames are stored on their server. I play GTA4 with a regular online GFWL-account. And as far as I can tell my savegames are stored locally on my hard drive. Look at your hard drive: AppData/Local/Rockstar Games/GTA IV/savegames So, the question remains, why doesn't GTA recognise them anymore?
mkey82
Offline account -> local savegames Online account -> savegames stored on the server One doesn't mix with the other.
Girish
mkey82: Can you elaborate what you mean by savegames are stored on the server? I'm as lost as the OP here. My savegames linked to my online account are located exactly where they should be on my hard drive. To present a clean-cut example, I haven't played EFLC on an offline account once and all my EFLC saves are located in the appropriate folder. mkey82
Aren't the online profile savegames loaded from the server (with a local copy obviously) and hence tied to your account? I assumed this is the reason as to why you can't mix the two.
Girish
Yes, that's correct. But even if you switch to an offline profile, those saves should be right where they were before. You can even get them to load with Xliveless if not with your offline profile. So, there's no reason for them to be "gone" like the OP's problem. mkey82
Anyway, I tried creating an account to access their forums, but the confirmation mail just isn't coming. I guess they want less people complaining over there.
IlhanK
Today I got a phone call from GFWL-support. Even those guys were stumped. Now they are forwarding my ticket to their superiors.
IlhanK
I can now proudly proclaim: Achievement unlocked: "Get your damn savegames back!!!" (1000 G) without the help of GFWL-support. It was indeed Resident Evil 5 that f'd my other GFWL-games up. First, I managed to get some savegames back by copying them around and whatnot, but every time I startet up RE5 all GFWL-savegames dissapeared again. But now, everything works, here's how I did it: 1. I backed up all my GFWL-savegames. I found them here: - C:\Users\Local User\AppData\Local - C:\Users\Local User\Documents 2. deleted the original GFWL-savegames 3. deinstalled following progs: - Windows Live Essentials 2011 - Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE Redistributable - Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace 4. deleted following folders: - C:\Users\Local User\AppData\Local\Microsoft\GFWLive - C:\Users\Local User\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive 5. Windows restart 6. reinstalled the progs I deinstalled earlier. 7. startet up every game and saved once. This created new folders in the savegame locations. 8. copied the backed up savegames to the newly created folders. And now I am winning. Charlie Sheen kiss my a**. Sunrise Driver
I dunno for other games but for GTA 4 & EFLC, Live (or game) creates a different save folder every time you reinstall the game, install Live or download your Live account. All your saves are located in a different folder so yes, copying to new save folder works. And Live doesn't support Cloud system.
