Sam998
First I would like to say that I really do enjoy GTA IV as well as others in the series. But after the story is completed is the stuff needed for 100% really that fun? Exotic Exports and Stevies Car Thefts for example are the same thing again and again, and it doesn't take much skill. The pigeons are the most repetitive thing ever. Jacobs deliveries can be fun but don't last very long. Same with Brucies races. Stunt Jumps have some of the same repetitiveness as the pigeons, but they at least have you doing something. Friend activities are pretty repetitive, not difficult or anything but you just don't do much. They are a little better with Brucie because you can take the helicopter. So do you find getting 100% mostly boring or do you think it's mostly fun or do you have some other answer?
.Olbricht.
In my opinion, getting 100% is never worth it. What does it do anyway? Unlimited ammo? Weapons at your safehouse? Please. What will you use it for anyway? Once you get 100% your missions should be finished, all the side missions, as well as the pigeons and shiz. Now what's left? Pretty much nothing except for the free roam and cop shoot outs. I can just get Simple Native Trainer or something to enjoy the benefits of achieving a hundred. Vamp 1911
It is boring & repetitive, no doubt about it. The problem lies in the way they built the game. Everything seems a huge set backwards from San Andreas and earlier games. There was next to no opportunity for collecting items, gangs (Triads, Yakuza, Leone family etc), side quests, unique weapons, or anything like that. When I think of GTA 3 i can recall the great days of rampages, homeless roadkill, remote-controlled toys, paramedic, fireman, dodo plane etc. Sure, they might have been silly, but at least they gave some variety. The game really only had a main quest, most wanted and pigeons & jumps. It didn't really bother me, though, because Niko was the best protagonist that I have ever played in any game. Linki
Every GTA 100% is tedious. The only 100% I've done is for GTA 4 and it wasn't half bad (except for the pigeons). I got unlimited ammo so that was nice.
paul
I liked doing the car thefts, and the stunt jumps but 200 pidgeons? Sure I've completed IV to 100% 2 times but getting so many damn pidgeons is kinda boring...

I suggest calling up Dwayne's boys and cause shoot-outs between them and other gang members in the streets, trust me it gets real crazy. Or whenever you steal cars for Brucie or delievr drug paackages for Little Jacob, take Dwayne's boys with you, its more exciting. The Drug Wars missions in BOGT are great fun aswell. Raptomex
I've gotten 100% in all the GTA games (with the exception of GTA and GTA 2 I guess). The rewards for IV are by far the worst. Still a great game and I still play it. Roaming around causing mass chaos is always fun.

spaceeinstein
It is boring & repetitive, no doubt about it. ... When I think of GTA 3 i can recall the great days of rampages, homeless roadkill, remote-controlled toys, paramedic, fireman, dodo plane etc. Sure, they might have been silly, but at least they gave some variety. So you rather want a variety of boring and repetitive side missions instead, driving back and forth 100 (taxi) + 60 (vigilante) +60 (firefighter) + 78 (paramedic) = 298 times (GTA III)? I do not like R* to waste spending their time remaking them. Variety is good but if you barely change the way you make them and just copy them into a new game, they will become boring reused crap. GTA IV had much fewer of those and the objectives within them are much more varied (different ways of killing and delivering) and that's a good change, which is the first step to innovation. Chinatown Wars had the idea right. I don't understand why you want to go back to the III-series days when the recent GTAs made this concept better. 100% is almost always boring in any games for me since I play on the PC and can get almost everything I want is easily. I usually only get 100% for the sake of completion. I mainly play for the story because that is something that is not easy to make. Docfaustino
Multiplayer IS fun. But at the same time, it's not an adequate next step after getting the coveted 100%. IV was about immersion and in multiplayer, gone are half the NPC's (notably, nearly all minorities, and gangs), and many vehicles. IV calculated the amount of side missions the average player would want, and no more. The III era games calculated how much any player could want, and then some. That was a better move. Although, Lost and Damned did a little to remedy the repetitiveness with Gang Wars, which actually take a bit of strategy.
junkpile
In my opinion, getting 100% is never worth it. What does it do anyway? Unlimited ammo? Weapons at your safehouse? Please. What will you use it for anyway? I do own the game for three years now and never went for the 100% trophy. Well, I achieved it a few months ago. Just out of boredom. Been thru the story over and over 'til I knew almost everything. It's just for the ego, or the f*ck of it. None of the targets were really challenging but going for all pigeons was a pain in the ass sometimes. Definitely one of the biggest WTF moments for me... To know this or that friend you got online who also got the trophy, knowing he was there and there to just kill the damn pigeon.
theGANNER
Hm, whenever it got boring for me I tried to spice it up. Killed most of the pigeons with the annihilator guns, combined the car thefts with police chases or stunt jumps. I did not have much games to play at that time so I really enjoyed it. So its rather up to you. Its GTA, so you dont have to play it save and quiet. Put a little fun in it.
valensim
The most boring thing is the extermination of 200 pigeons, and what do u get for this ...... nothing interesting, just a achievement/trophy.
ribon
Believe it or not, I started playing IV only yesterday because my previous computer couldn't run it. Since I managed to get to 100% in GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas, I wanted to do the same in IV. But only after a couple of hours of playing, I just don't feel like finishing it. It's not even half as fun as the other three were... or am I getting too old for this? And to answer your question - if you're looking for material gains then no, it's not worth getting to 100% in ANY of the GTA games. I went for it because I love the series and it was sort of a personal challenge for me.
WhistleBlower
I don't think it's really the activities so much as it is how long they last. The 200 pigeons, for example, cut it back to something like 100 and it should be fine. It would be no different from the GTA 3 era games and their hidden packages. Same thing for vigilante, paramedic etc. keep it to a reasonable amount. I can't stress how boring it was when I got to level 47 of the vigilante mission flying with my Hunter in San Andreas. What was the point of adding so many levels afterwards if I got the +150 armor bonus after completing the 12th level? Not to mention all of the oysters -- why not simply end the hidden packages thing with the Los Santos graffiti tags? Compared to San Andreas, GTA IV was a lot less tedious. killer24
To me, the other things need to achieve 100% was good, but the 200 pigeons, they are kind of boring. I can't just stand it, getting 200 pigeons, I mean is this a joke? When I missed one pigeon, I've desperately tried to find the last f*cking pigeon. It's like I'm having a heart attack. Pigeons are sh*t.

So do you find getting 100% mostly boring or do you think it's mostly fun or do you have some other answer? I don't really think it's that much different to other GTAs. If some of the things are boring, and repetitive then the same exact thing can be said for other GTAs. The only thing that's quite tedious is the flying rats IMO. With other GTAs you had to spend a lot of time doing things like taxi missions, fire, paramedic, vigilante etc, and what made it worse is you had to do it in succession. I don't know, but having to do 100 odd taxi missions (Or whatever it was) in a row was boring as hell. I've always felt R* made the side missions in GTA IV a reasonable length. Usually after 10-15 it starts to repeat itself. The missions ended before they got too repetitive. I probably would've made Brucie's exotic exports, Jacob's drug running etc a bit longer (Say 15 a piece), but anymore than that, and you might aswell watch paint dry. At least with GTA IV the things that are required for 100% can be done at your own pace. Not what the game wants you to do where you're forced to complete a side mission in one sitting. I like with GTA IV you can do the amount you want, and come back to it later on to finish the rest off. It's funny when I think about it. A lot of people have accused GTA IV over the last 3 years that it's too linear, but I think the old games actually were in some ways more than what GTA IV is. Magic_Al
The flying rats and similar things in previous GTAs are a way to reward exploring the map. They can't make enough missions to send you everywhere, so these scavenger hunts make sure you get points for seeing the world. It's like clearing the dots in a Pac-Man maze, but calmer and with better scenery.
