Rockworm
LOL taking it a bit personal here. The truth of it is why should commentary on a Starcraft game be any different than commentating on a football game or hockey? If you can't answer that one question than commentating for anything is stupid because its all one and the same if you ask me. I remember watching a Starcraft 2 tournament jsut before the game came out. It was fun to watch and in large part it was thanks to the people talking about the games. Hell I find it better than the real sports because I couldn't care less about the real sports. You may not realize this but by calling the job of starcraft commentary as stupid you are saying the industry as a whole is stupid because it shouldn't be up there with the big boys. Hobo-Lord
LMAO after GTA IV got a perfect score (10/10), I kind of figured out that IGN was taking bribes and heavily biased on that. baptiste
So you disagree that getting paid $60,000 dollars to talk about a game is stupid. What you dont seem to be able to understand, is that reducing it to "talk about a game" is retarded, and inaccurate. Its complex, its intricate, its a hell harder than commentating any "real" sports at the moment, and its got massive audiences, big gaming sponsors, celebrities etc. How much more legit do you want it to get? I have never played Starcraft and your right I know nothing about it You should just have stopped there. but to call me a simpleton makes you sound like a loser because your saying I am stupid for not being aware about how big a game played mostly in Asia is. You are a simpleton, and you are stupid for the very reason you said, you talk sh*t abouts stuff you know nothing about. How does that not make sense to you? You said it yourself. about how big a game played mostly in Asia is. Its big everywhere, its just the very best players are usually koreans, and not "asia people" as you would put it. Thats about the same amount of money my mum makes a year for having a proper job. If you don't think its stupid then you sir are clearly the idiot Someone else said something similar, about your mamma being stupid, which might be true, but I'll put it another way, commentating starcraft is probably harder than whatever it is your mom is doing for a living. It lacks 90% of the things that made San Andreas so much fun, jetpacks, planes, multitudes of weaponry, unrealism, the completely insane story line and trades it all for a NIKO LET'S GO BOWLING OH NO YOU DIED ROMAN game. Was it the graphics? Graphics don't make a game fun. The physics? Extremely buggy in certain situations, even if they were mostly ok. San Andreas has way more stuff to do, it's way more imaginative and fun, is bigger, has several different types of vehicle to drive: cars, bikes, motorbikes, helis, planes, boats, hovercrafts and jetpacks (if you'd count it as a vehicle). If anything, San Andreas deserved that 10/10, GTAIV deserves an 8/10 (I know this is about IGN, and that SA got 9.9 with them, I'm talking generally in review score terms, everyone in the media seems to think IV is better than SA). And I really dislike everyone's supposed acceptance of GTA going in the "realism" direction while Saints Row takes over from where the III era ended. The Killa
As far as Starcraft goes, if someone can get a 60k / year job commentating on it then that only goes to show how far video games have come in general. I'm jealous. I've never played it so I won't go off about it. I had a friend that moved here from Seoul and he was ALL over it. I watched him play once and it just looked like he mashed the keyboard as fast as he could. And then, he won in a few minutes. I've NEVER seen human hands work that fast before. Starcraft will forever be beyond me Not to start an off-topic flamewar about it, but I'd love to know why people think GTA IV is so good. It lacks 90% of the things that made San Andreas so much fun, jetpacks, planes, multitudes of weaponry, unrealism, the completely insane story line and trades it all for a NIKO LET'S GO BOWLING OH NO YOU DIED ROMAN game For me, once San Andreas began introducing the ridiculous jetpack, killing people with dildos and infiltrating military bases and whatever the f*ck it I started to go "well.. okay?" and my interest slowly declined. It felt like it was trying too hard to be fun. Car customization and character customization was good (my opinion somewhat changed on that), and was something that should have been kept in IV. But.. meh And I never understood the whole "NIKO LETS GO BOWLING" arguement. Did people forget you could turn off your phone and ignore such things? Sure, sometimes it was required to complete the game but otherwise it wasn't even a big deal. Also, such an arguement is completely canceled by SA's constant 15 minute turf wars. That was f*cking annoying. Don't get me wrong, I do agree with you in the part that IV lacked fun, but it was still a fantastic game Edited May 11, 2011 by The Killa

Because a 10/10 implying that the game got NO bad marks and cannot get a higher score. Last I checked that was justifying "perfection" as it were. The game was coded horribly and has so many bugs it's laughable. When games that come out 3 years after the fact (Games that are more technically and graphically advanced mind you.) run better on my slightly dated PC then there's something to be said. Although, with that said, where does everyone else go to get their gaming news? Rock Paper Shotgun is by far my favorite. Granted, they're almost purely PC centric though, so not quite suited for everyone. Bookmarked that for sure. Good site. Don't care about console news. Thats about the same amount of money my mum makes a year for having a proper job. If you don't think its stupid then you sir are clearly the idiot Yo momma is stupid, maybe she should start doing commentary on Counter-Strike. hahahaha The term "proper job" is relative. I've had people tell me to get a "proper job" even though I am a self taught PC repairman that makes house calls. When a rich ass dumb as sh*t house wife drops down a check for $300 for spending two hours at her house and someone tells you that you don't have a "proper job" it's kind of a sign that not everything can be taken seriously on the matter. Like it or not, if that guy's old professor is getting paid $60,000 a year for doing that job, then I would classify that as a proper job no matter how dumb I think it is. tubbs51
The thing i find funny is the way they react to the Madden NFL series.... When EA bought the exclusive rights to the NFL name and players EA constantly gave them good reviews even when the product quality dwindled to almost nothing a couple years ago. Then when fans began voicing their opinions louder than ever thats when IGN jumps on to that bandwagon and acts like they were that way about Madden ever since that horrible deal in 2005... One thing about review sites is that you have to think for yourself about a game instead of relying on a review site to tell you weather you should get it or not. With me being a HUGE Bethesda fan i ignored the IGN review. its that easy. just rent the game if you have thoughts on a game and try it yourself. If its bad then you saved yourself $50+. foohy
<snip> I think the key problem with people's dislike of GTAIV is that everyone wanted another San Andreas with insane, ridiculous stuff like jetpacks and aliens. But it seems that no one remembers all the complaining that was dished out back in 2004 against all that stuff. Is everyone crazy in the head? I distinctly remember friends and fans alike bashing the ridiculous elements of the game and wishing it was a bit more realistic like GTAIII. Everyone was so excited that in IV things were looking to be more of a mature crime story rather than a balls-out shoot 'em up, yet they turned around and started bashing exactly that when the game was finally released which is why we eventually got BoGT. Why do I love GTAIV? Because I was incredibly hyped like everyone else, but it seems unlike most people I was actually hyped for things I had wanted in the series -- a more serious tone, deeper characters, less arcade-y driving. I never needed any of the gimmicky stuff in San Andreas to have fun; I made my fun out of causing crashes, finding jumps and having insane police chases. That's imagination; not doing scripted side-missions. All of those things are much better in IV than they were in San Andreas. What's so buggy about the driving physics? Sure, vehicles role a bit too much, but it's still leaps and bounds more fun than the driving-a-brick-on-ice driving physics of GTAs. And it's no glitch. The only glitches I notice are major yet isolated ones like the swingset launcher which is actually incredibly fun. No jumping around or randomly flipping over when you bump into things ala Bad Company 2. Or are you talking about on-foot physics? Euphoria is great! I loved it. Many people don't like the weighty feel of Niko, but I do. Much like vehicles, characters in past GTAs seemed to float rather than walk. The cover system was frustrating at times, but nothing too bad. RDR massively improved on it which I expect to see in the next GTA. The graphics were...not great. Sitting back and watching the sun set over Algonquin was beautiful, but there are plenty of lower-res-than-I'd-like textures around the city when you got up close. You're right that graphics don't make a game fun, but they can add to existing fun. Having a shootout in a detailed alley with trash cans falling over and graffiti on the walls while sun reflects off the windows is more enjoyable than having a shootout in a bland grey alley. I guess overall I love GTAIV because it's got many of the things I loved most about San Andreas plus all the things I always wished it had. I absolutely love both games and I think they both deserve 10/10. Saints Row is everything I disliked about San Andreas -- the over-the-top style, the ridiculous "story"*, the focus on insanity and explosions over well-crafted gameplay and badass standoffs. Call me crazy, but I find it more fun to have a small shootout akin to a good action movie rather than an insanely over-the-top explosion and carnage fest. *I liked San Andreas core story, but many elements like the combine harvester and area 69 missions made me roll my eyes.
