nlitement
Sorry, I have just noticed the error in the title, should be Is IGN a joke? British English grammar dictates "are" for singular nouns that represent a group. So I was right? IGN on its own is singular. However, IGN is a actually a corporation, a number of people. In British English, you say "the band are playing at the pub".

AH64Hunter
IGN Is a f*cking joke there reviews go like this. I love how Ign bashes the pokemon games for having the same gameplay while they worship COD for rehashing the same sh*t over and over again. *insert the phrase "you can't spell ignorant without ign" * That's really all it is that and they probably never played a game before. Robinski
read user reviews, not over-payed yuppie ones Have you read any user reviews for games? Generally people who are paid to write can write reasonably well and at least coherently, meaning you can make sense of their reviews and actually understand the points they aim to put across. That's not something that can be said of user reviews, which are usually "0/10 the opening of Pandora's box was more enjoyable" or "10/10 it's like Christ coded it himself". They only write a "review" when they feel really strongly about something, so it's bound to be slightly skewed.
Reconite
IGN have always been a joke. But I don't think their judgment on Brink is wrong, just not paid-for. Of course, compared to Modern Warfare 2 - Brink must be better, but Activision paid where Splash Damage/Bethesda didn't see it necessary. If you don't pay for high scores you get what the reviewer actually thinks. Fallout 3 gets 9.0 in graphics? Even after mentioning it has animation problems and the textures suck? Crysis gets a 7.5 in graphics? A site wants to review your game? You let them, but first you shove your advertising up their ass so far they can't pull it out. From the reviewers' point of view, if you give the game a bad score you get fired because your boss doesn't like that you pissed off the guys paying for advertising on your site. When the developer/publisher of a game simply doesn't care, the reviewer doesn't either, they just give their thoughts. Claude4Catalina
Black Ops had a fantastic story. Anyway, I have gone off point. no...just no. but yeah, IGN seem pretty "let's rim Activision because they yearly franchise games." the mindset is similar to that of a 12 year old boy who worships Black Ops, hailing it the best game ever...until the Call of Duty comes up, which inevitebly 'takes Black Ops spot at the top for being improved for the masses.' I wonder how many recycled guns will be in the next Call of Duty because they got whored out by the 12 year olds in Black Ops? balls, I appear to have gone off point myself. baptiste
A former professor of mine just got hired at 60K a year by IGN to do commentary for Starcraft matches. Let's just read that sentence a few times. Ridiculous So? Something wrong with E-sports working out? What do you mean so, it just goes to show how stupid the game industry has got. To read commentary for a video game and earn thousands of dollars is stupid. Don't get me wrong, I would love to be paid for commentating on a game I love but I think its foolish I wave my arm in your general direction. I would bother to explain but you're obviously a simpleton, so I wont bother. Without going into detail, Starcraft is huge, commentating starcraft is insanely hard, and getting payed for it is just like getting payed for any other job. This is in no way the gaming industry becoming stupid, not even remotly. This is the best thing video games have going for them at the moment. Moreover, your comment on how commentating is "reading" is just a proof of your complete and utter lack of understanding of Starcraft commenting and/or anything else. TheBlackProject
What did MW2 get? Like a 9.5? It was the worst FPS I ever played and the only breathtaking part was that level in Washington D.C. Infinity Ward just sucks anyway, they should stop making games. Oh and someone here earlier said that IGN is rating games high only for bribery, well of course that's the reason. How in the hell did GTA IV get a 10?
SLRMC93
Well at least they don't put graphics in front of gameplay, then lie about it and say they don't. *cough* GameSpot*cough*
foohy
<snip> I can't agree with you on the storyline but everyones entitled to their own opinion. But to be fair MW2 had tactical nuke. Not even Black Ops was as ridiculous Sorry, umm didn't get the British joke Different kinds of ridiculous though. The nuke was ridiculous but it was also pretty awesome and frequently served the purpose of ending a completely 1-sided game early. The RCXD, dogs and valkyrie rockets are just ridiculously stupid and unneeded. It's like the difference between a jet pack and a suit made of toilet paper. They're both ridiculous, but only one is awesome. It wasn't a joke and it wasn't directed at you.
The Killa
I only really go to such websites for gaming news. I've never been one to take anything from reviews, biased or not, until I see and play the game for myself. I make my own judgements, thanks. trip
Wasn't it found out that they were taking bribes or just talking up the games of their sponsors. True. Shawn Elliot got in big trouble for exposing them. Edit: To answer TK's question. I'n not a gaffer, but I get the bulk of my news and reviews from neogaf. G The Generous
IGN is a joke?yes. most of reviews are writted by fanboy.it's a fanboy war in there.XBOX vs PS3 and such.game that got great graphic on XBOX but not on PS3,PS3 fanboy review the game suck, explame for Medal Of Honor and Mafia 2,graphic suck?lol,i lol a lot when i read that, framerate and sh*t,... they always find stupid reason to make the review like a f*cking civil war.game got 9 point for graphic,9 point for story, 9 point for value and 8.5 point for gameplay, and guess what?overall 8.LOL, that was a f*cking joke beside there are some good review there.the review site i love is now gamespot, review are great, remember back of the old day gamespot is really insane too. Vextroid
If I questioned the credibility of a reviewer and his/her reviews on a game I liked and stopped going to there site?, I'd have no site to browse on the internet any more (for gaming anyway). At the end of the day its some-persons opinion. You agree with it?, great! You don't agree with it?, also great! I take the opinions of various reviewers (both paid and community) and make a judgement on that. Also I don't understand why people complain if a game they liked gets a low score, they didn't like it but you did, Isn't that enough? At least you liked it. Right? AceRay
what is with all this hate on MW2? I thought it was a cool game with a better than average plot. JOSEPH X
Although, with that said, where does everyone else go to get their gaming news? N4G - News 4 Gamers. It's an RSS feeding site linked to hundreds of gaming websites, so you get your IGNs and gamespots mixed in with all the other news sites. It has a new story going up about every minute. http://n4g.com/ neogaf is also a good site as the members seem to have a lot of insider info. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/

arsenal_fan
I ususally go on wikipedia on read on reception and see how many game articles as a collective gave it a high score, if it's most or all then I'll probably get it. I really don't trust just one as there are so many bad ones, IGN arn't the only ones, many give reviews which you just go To be fair to IGN, tons of sites gave Black Ops and MW2 high scores, can't believe nearly all of them praised the fantastic single player storyline campaign as being "unique" and "compelling"

I've never been one to take anything from reviews, biased or not, until I see and play the game for myself. I make my own judgements, thanks. I usually check out Gamespot every day, and just read up on all the latest news and previews. I very rarely check out a review of a game, simply for the fact that every person has their own opinion on a game. If I want to check a game out, I tend to use Youtube and search for gameplay videos.
