Hitman843
I dont care if your an atheist or not.Everyone imagined hell and heaven in some way at some point in their lives. Heaven:Tbh i really dont know lol. Hell:Hellraiser and some Clive Barker stories have the best representations of Hell imo
Rhoda
So you had a stereotypical vision of Hell, but not Heaven? What about that common depiction of it being all fluffy clouds, blue skies, angels, harps and men with beards? I remember thinking of that before I even knew what Hell was, just because of the paintings I used to look at in books when I first started school. Hell was always this underground cave setting with a red glow akin to a rave where you all make a pact to drink some poisoned punch and kill yourself at the end. Despite that, I'm not a religious man, I just fell for the same old hookah most did.
EmoNinja909
I'm sort of an atheist, but I'll try... Heaven: probably reincarnation, being born again with a new body. Hell: eternal darkness, nothingness and isolation.
Kratos2000
Heaven: I've always imagined it as a huge continent of some sort that you can't leave, which is always during the night with an awesome view of the stars and has mostly just grass and trees all around (not like a forest, just trees in a decent distance from each other.) Hell: a dimension full of cliffs and people falling from the sky to the fire at the bottom. With a red aura everywhere (or those were just red cliffs)

Oddsock
Heaven: I just stick with the whole "floating on clouds" image. Hell: I used to think of it as a fiery place until I read the Divine Comedy. ska
Not to be a nuisance, but what is it recently with the plague of topics regarding religion, heaven, hell, etc? Every other topic in Gen. Chat it seems right now has something to do with it. It's like the whole supposed May 21st and 2012 events are making you people nervous.

Robinski
Heaven for me would be the traditional "everything is great and there's no real trouble" but with one proviso. I need a reset button. As I alluded to in the other thread, the one you made this because of, I'm very scared by the idea of "living" for eternity. A lot of people don't seem to grasp the idea of eternity: it's really long, like imagine the longest period of time you possibly can, and you're literally not even a fraction of the way there. Even living for the rest of time with everything perfect would eventually wear you down, you can only do so much before you start repeating yourself. Hell for me would just need to be a plain, grey room. Eternity really does sort out everything for you in that one. Lucky for me, I guess, that there (probably) isn't an afterlife. Typhus
I believe that Hell can indeed be Heaven. It's all a matter of your personality. There are two kinds of people, those who respect authority and those who have a natural desire to disobey a rule as soon as they hear of it. Think about men like Kurt Cobain, a musician who brought joy to millions but a horrible human being. A junkie, a bitter control freak who leeched off people whilst abusing them. Do you think his Heaven would involve angels and fluffy clouds and undying loyalty to God? Hell, a land where no man is master, could be his Heaven, because it would suit his outlook on the nature of power and law. Drugs, whores, music that's far too loud for sensitive ears. That is Hell. A place for the cool kids, the stoners, the daredevils, the malcontents. Heaven, by comparison, is probably aptly described as something of a benevolent tyranny. With all subservient to God but given omnipotence. Wish it, you can have it, as long as it doesn't pose a threat to God. Everything is in perfect order, the world is calm and clean and free from undesirables. It's not as fun as Hell, it's not filled with nearly as many cool people, but you run a much lesser risk of catching multiple STD's or getting eviscerated. Both are perfect places for their respective citizens, but locked in a mostly harmless sense of competition. More and more I have started to realise that the idea of eternal damnation for the 'sins' or lust, pride, greed or anger is pure nonsense. Most of these sinful emotions, I actually consider virtues. Humans are never more powerful, passionate or beautiful then when they're reaching for the stars. Faith shouldn't make us ashamed of who we are or what we feel. Illousion
I think that heaven would be what you consider heaven. I realise that made little sense so let me put it this way. I am fascinated with 60's and 70's america. If I passed and went to heaven it would be USA in say 1976, without the cold war and all that, it would be a world at peace with it self. I guess that'd be my paradise. Like Typhus says, it's all a matter of personality. I've got no theories of hell, except that it is probably the exact opposite of what you like. Dreaming of California, where the sun never sets.
KilnerLUFC
Heaven: I just stick with the whole "floating on clouds" image. Same. My image of Heaven as a kid was that everyone who died went and lived on the clouds, but were still 'alive', so couldn't jump down or anything, or have wings and sh*t like that. Being younger, I didn't fully understand the water cycle, so never had to think what happened when it started raining, lol. Never really thought of Hell as a kid. TBH, somewhere like Hell didn't exist, or it didn't for me.
SilentSeas
I've never really been a believer of the concept of Heaven and Hell as the thought of living the same life for all of eternity rather unappealing. But if I had to say, my ideas would be something along these lines: Heaven - A reincarnation with the chance to pick the life that you want you want to live. Hell - A state of never ending emotional numbness.

darthYENIK
Probably my favorite Black Sabbath album. I wake up every morning to my alarm on my phone with the Mob Rules. But seriously, I can't see heaven as anything more than spiritual and intellectual enlightenment, to the point where we think on a level our feeble human minds can't comprehend. And then we play charades with Einstein and two identical aliens. Hell is probably watching a double feature of "Date Movie" and "Superhero Movie" over and over again. Josh
On a serious note, I think that most religious people accept that hell is just a metaphor for an eternity spent without God. The fire and brimstone teachings aren't really needed now because people are more intelligent than they have been in the past. Miro
Heaven I imagine where I see all my beloved dead family members and also some great people. A nice place where the sun is always between the clouds and never rains. Where all the people love each other and respect. The Hell is where I am now, and what I see daily. blitz
This is a topic I enjoy replying in because I have actually given the whole concept a lot of thought. I think that heaven is a lot like earth, you just live there but unlike a lot of people on earth, you are truly happy at the presence of god. Hell in fact, is the same too except you are sad. You are not truly happy even though you have everything you ever wanted. Of course, because you are not with your creationist. I have wondered many times if there is truly a heaven and if there truly is a hell, I am no atheist but sometime I just don't buy it. It seems too cheesy but then I rethink the whole concept and start believing again. Call me a sinner, but sometimes I just can't control what's going on in my mind. EmoNinja909
To be honest it's kind of scary when you think about what happens after you die. I get freaked out just thinking about old age, let alone the afterlife. I'm in love, I want to be with this amazing person forever. It's unrelated to the topic, but I really do hope death doesn't take that away from us. I'm an atheist, however I often sit down and ponder if there really is a heaven and a hell... I'd like to think so.

TheBlackProject
Heaven: A place where all the sissies go after life. Hell: Drugs, sex, and rock and roll. Bars, cigarettes, sex with blonde girls, hot and humid weather (perfect to look at girls you want to have an afternoon f*ck). Driving reckless and fast since there is no cops, fight clubs, more f*cking blonde girls, listening to Ozzy Osbourne, gun fights without death, being indestructible, just pure awesomeness.
