goodiesguy
Every thing seems to be fine. i press "new game" (as i cant find where to put my old saved games back) and the loading screen loads fine. i skip the opening story thing, then it gets to CJ and the bike. now every few seconds, the screen freezes, goes black, then it appears again, a few seconds later, it goes black again. It keeps on doing this. Changing compatibility mode does nothing. In the end my computer either restarts itself, or i get an error saying gta_sa.exe has stopped running. My PC specs are: AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (2.4Ghz) ATI RADEON 9600/X1050 (256MB VRAM) 1.5GB DDR RAM Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit I have run gta successfully on an ancient 11 year old pc with 1ghz cpu, 768mb of sdram, and a 20gb hd fine, also on high specs (with my old radeon 9600 128mb vram) fine, so i dont know why it wont work on this. If it helps, my pc is fine with upscaling dvds to HD, and i play Nexon's "Counter-Strike:Online" in OpenGL mode and that works perfect, and the specs for that are more demanding than san andreas's specs. radioman
First, is this the Retail(DVD) version OR a Downloaded version? If Downloaded, from where? If Retail, is this the ORIGINAL DVD OR a Copy of the DVD? Also, Any No-DVD cracks? Any mods or Trainers? Are ALL drivers up to date for your Video card, DX, Sound card, etc.? Since you have Windows 7, Do you have the latest SP, which is SP1? For Video cards with 256MB Vram, it is best to use LOW FX Quality, as the game will run a lot better than it would on Medium or High. I too have an ATI Radeon card(X1250) w/ 256MB Vram dedicated(1407MB total) on my desktop, and SA runs a lot better on Low then on Med. or High.-and I have the Dual Core version of the Athlon processor and Vista Home Premium. Also, your RAM is kind of low for Windows 7 Ultimate, to run games on, as Ultimate uses more resources than 7 Home Premium does(according to Microsoft.com). To prove it, I have a 7 Home Premium laptop and it uses 900MB to 1.2GB of RAM for the OS itself. So, since you only have 1.5GB of RAM, and 7 uses between 900MB to 1.2GB of RAM, that does not leave much at all for games. Also, you have a single core processor-SA does not run very well at high settings on Single core processors-I too have confirmed this on an XP Home PC. So, in general, there isn't much you can do besides run the game on LOW settings, unless you either downgrade to XP(which is not possible, as XP is no longer sold as of October of 2010-according to Microsoft.com). OR upgrade you RAM/processor to at least a Dual core. Hope this helps/Just a friendly heads up...
Girish
First of all, check for any over-heating issues. Check all system temps and make sure they're not too high. Also, ensure that you update your video driver and delete the gta_sa.set file from the User Files folder.
goodiesguy
it's the normal dvd. version 1.1 I've ran the game fine on high settings on a 128mb ati radeon, that was on xp. My pc starts up and runs fine on windows 7. i can even multitask and it still runs fine.
lil weasel
Please be more specific. There is NO Ordinary DVD version 1.1 Where do you get the idea it is V1.1?
goodiesguy
Once its installed and it gets to the menu, it says V1.01 I think it might be my video card. as i've just put in my old 128mb ati radeon and it seems fine. im thinking of getting a Geforce 7600GS 256mb vram. should this be fine for san andreas? as my radeon 9600 128mb plays it fine. Drift-Kingz
Well the 7600GS is actually a better card, so yeah, it will run fine. Also, are any mods installed? If so, remove them. If that doesn't work, re-install SA.
lil weasel
V1.01 is a Patch that is applied to V1 games. It doesn't come pre-installed on any disc. You may have been ripped off if you paid for such a disc. It would appear you have a pirated copy of the game disc. Pirated copies are known for not having all the files necessary to run the game properly. The only fix to be found here is to get a proper game. Where to (Buy) Download: Direct2Drive (for PC and MAC) SteamPowered Rockstar Warehouse boxed PC games: Rockstar Site Also available at on-line sites… Amazon.com (I got a replacement copy for 10.00$US) and stores, GameStop, K-Mart, Wal-Mart, and their dot coms, etc. Modding is easy with Version 1 games (Hard to find). Not so easy unless you work at it with Version 2 games Disc. (Current). Not able to be done with Version 3 games (Downloaded).
Spider-Vice
The DVD's sold now are v1.1... After 2005 they don't sell v1.0 anymore because of the Hotcoffee fiasco, plus he said V1.1 not V1.01. Try reinstalling your graphics drivers. lil weasel
Really, I was under the impression that Real DVDs sold now are V 2.0 (as mine are. A PS2, and two PC.) I have read that at least one retailer in eastern Europe was selling Copies of the Original Game Discs, "Because the Game isn't otherwise available." (from a poster in one of the Trouble-shooting topics here.) Edited May 12, 2011 by lil weasel
Spider-Vice
Hmmm I'm not sure either, could be, I bought my game before the HotCoffee fiasco so I can't see. Disregard my post if it's v2 then. radioman
Hmmm I'm not sure either, could be, I bought my game before the HotCoffee fiasco so I can't see. Disregard my post if it's v2 then. Yeah, the 2 versions sold now a days are V2(the Retail DVD) and V3(the Steam/D2D Download version). I bought my Original copy back in June 2005, and it was the Second Edition(V2). Also, I have the Trilogy Pack for PC, and it too is V2. V1.1 is the official patch for V1 games for Bug fixes/Hot Coffee removal. So, if the OP has V1.1 as a disc version, then it is obviously a Warez copy, as the DVD versions are V1 AND V2 ONLY. V1.1 is the official download patch for SA. Like wise, III and VC have a 1.1 version, but that is the Steam/D2D version. Just a friendly heads up...
