Don Garcia
From writer, executive producer and series showrunner Veena Sud (Cold Case), The Killing is based on the wildly successful Danish television series Forbrydelsen and tells the story of the murder of a young girl in Seattle and the subsequent police investigation. Season one will consist of thirteen one-hour episodes and airs Sundays at 10PM | 9C. The Killing ties together three distinct stories around a single murder including the detectives assigned to the case, the victim's grieving family, and the suspects. Set in Seattle, the story also explores local politics as it follows politicians connected to the case. As the series unfolds, it becomes clear that there are no accidents; everyone has a secret, and while the characters think they've moved on, their past isn't done with them. The Killing stars Mireille Enos (Big Love) as Sarah Linden, the lead homicide detective that investigates the death of Rosie Larsen; Billy Campbell (Once and Again) as Darren Richmond, Seattle's City Council President and now running for Mayor; Joel Kinnaman (Snabba Cash) as Stephen Holder, an ex-narc cop who joins the homicide division in the investigation to find Rosie's killer; Michelle Forbes (True Blood) as Rosie's mother, Mitch Larsen; and Brent Sexton (W., In the Valley of Elah) as Rosie's father, Stan Larsen. The pilot was directed by Patty Jenkins (Monster). Filmed in Vancouver, The Killing is produced by Fox Television Studios and executive produced by Mikkel Bondesen (Burn Notice) for Fuse Entertainment. ___________________________________________________________________ AMC is my home for great drama television. From Mad Men, to Breaking Bad, to Walking Dead, AMC has been upping their reputation considerably over the past few years, snatching up accolades left and right. For three consecutive years Mad Men won Best Drama and Bryan Cranston earned a threepeat for Best Actor for Breaking Bad. When I'm not catching Boardwalk Empire on HBO, I'm religiously keeping up with AMC's programs. And after a sorta misstep with their recent one-season-and-axed Rubicon, the channel has unleashed their latest series, The Killing. And, the reviews have been more than positive. The show is seven episodes in and I'm hooked. A great murder mystery drama with well-written characters that are given room to develop in every episode. And it's all for the better than the cast is fantastic. Mirielle Enos is amazing as detective Linden, one of the most believeable cops you'll see on TV today, and Joel Kinnaman plays her delightfully sleazy-appearing new partner. Like oh so many cop tales, Linden is set to leave the life of law enforcement behind and start a new life, with her fiancee and son, but this last case just pulls her in, as last cases usually do. What results is an engrossing journey to answer the question, "Who Killed Rosie Larsen?" So I'm basically saying, give this show a watch. A rainy, dreary, murder mystery set in "Seattle." And although this show is a remake, don't go looking to the Danish series to find the killer. Its been changed for the American version.
Robinski
The original Danish version of this has been running recently on one of the more obscure BBC channels. I haven't been watching, but it's definitely on my "to pick up" list now due to all the rave reviews it's been getting across the board. With credentials like those, I imagine a company like AMC could be trusted to adapt something so well received in both its home nation and in the outside world. It sounds like they've put some thought into setting and style at least. From what I do know about the original it's that Copenhagen is shown to be a grey, rainy and generally dreary so Seattle seems like a good counterpart. I also know that Sarah Lund (the Danish protagonist) is known for her knitwear jumper, much like that pictured above. I might look into this later on too, if they've changed it enough so that I wouldn't just be watching the same thing minus subtitles.
Sauron
Voodoo gave me the heads up on this show last week and I've been hooked since. Interesting character progression, well written and the plot development has been top notch. I'll have to check out the Danish version when the season wraps up. Voodoo
The characters, pacing and atmosphere in this are very well done by current standards. I've been enjoying it a lot.
Don Garcia
So, Threedoo, have any theories so far? I was totally on board for thinking the teacher did it, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. One interesting thing I keep hearing is that the killer is Linden's fiancee. Hm. I hate you for not replying threedoo Edited May 12, 2011 by Don Garcia
Mister Pink
I told my grilfriend about this after reading the OP. She liked the trailer and we watched the first episode together but the bitch went ahead without me and watched it all. I must revisit this and start again.
