vice city on xbox 360?

Recommended Posts

jayk1

hello

i wanted to buy gta 3 and vice city for my 360, but i'm not sure if it's a good idea. on the backwards compatibility article on wikipedia it says

"Slowdown in heavy traffic areas. There might be noise while listening to the radio. Sometimes textures go messy, and a reboot is needed to solve the problem. Driving controls are slightly lagged, making it difficult to control the car. Custom Radio is no longer supported. Players are also no longer able to listen to the radio from the "audio" option of the game menu."

Some of these things worry me a little. Does anyone here play gta 3 / vice city on their xbox 360 and can tell what it is like?

I have played III, VC, and SA on my 360, and the games itself are fine. The only thing I noticed, was the Custom Track Player is disabled when using the 360. I have the 60GB model, btw. and the Doulble Pack version of III/VC for x-box and the stand alone for SA. So, yeah it does work great on the 360. smile.gif Of coarse, I am still in the early part of the story line on the X-Box version-I have only completed the PS2 and PC versions so far, and have just started the x-box version on the 360 a couple of years ago-and I am still in the beginning of the storyline there-lol. I find the PC version using Mouse/Key board a lot easier than the console version for some reason.

I play all III-Era games on my 360. III and Vice City have amazing graphics and they even upscale to 1080p well barely any jaggies. SA is ported from the PS2 version so the graphics are just okay. Vice City does not slow down that much but it is hard to drive because of the lag. In III, the slowdown can be a bother but you get used to it. Just watch out for Rain and heavy traffic areas. They are NOT a good fit. But nonetheless you should be fine.

alright thank you both. that doesn't sound too good actually. im gonna give it a try anyway.

it's a shame they can't make games run properly on the successor console. you'd expect it to run better and at a higher resolution / higher AA/AF and so on, but it runs worse than on the old console.

BC PS3 upscales the games a little bit. Also helps the game run much more smoothly because you don't have the outdated hardware of the ps2 trying to run the games. I find the 3 era to be played on the PS3 much better then any system.

Outdated? Sure. Running more smoothly? Maybe not. The PS3 uses the PS2 hardware to emulate the games. They look EXACTLY the same if not played better on the PS2.

No it doesn't use ps2 hardware. You should look more into it. No it doesn't look same. lol You turn smoothing on which smooths out the objects instead of having ridged lines and you put it on full screen and go into the game settings and turn on widescreen it upscales the game.

Yes, it actually does use the PS2's Graphics Synthesizer and Emotion Engine chip. They are built in to the motherboard. The smoothing option is more of a blur filter that they put on the games. And when you putit to full screen the games just go through a filter of 4 black bars to make it look upscaled. I have a 60gb PS3 and a ps2. When played without smoothing or upscaling. They look exactly the same. There might be a difference, but these differences are not substanitsally huge.

Was talking about the 80gb. Smoothing does what it says it does and the ps2 doesn't compare to it after that. The picture is upscaled as I said, sorry if you don't see a difference. I compared my ps2 and ps3 and found the quality of the ps3 to be much more viewable then being on the ps2. Theres many other threads about the upscaling the ps3 does over at the playstation forums. Should look it up!

There are mixed reviews. But I have also heard it depends on your HDTV. I'm also a little pissed because my 60gb got the YLOD for the second time so I might just end up getting a slim and playing my PS2 for GTA games. I find them to be similar on my TV ps3 or not. Its all about preference and I feel that the games should be played on the system they were made for. The only real difference I see are the colors. Colors look better on the PS3 but the games are still playable on ps2. It does suck how Sony won't re-introduce backwards compatibility. The cheap bastards only want to make HD remakes so we can pay 60 dollars for them.

How does the Double Pack play in comparison to the standalone games (360)? Or The Trilogy? I can buy the Trilogy at Rockstar Warehouse for 30 bucks.

I'm working on getting 100% on all the 3 era again. It makes me wonder if rockstar would make hd remake of it all. Would piss me off if they did. =/

Nah, Rockstar wouldn't do it no matter how much Sony would pay them (not that they have money to spend ATM lol). I just wanna see what they will make out of their upcoming came AGENT.

If the Radio is too low, then turn the Volume up in the in-game options AND Turn the Volume on your TV up. That will fix that. tounge2.gif

How does the Double Pack play in comparison to the standalone games (360)? Or The Trilogy? I can buy the Trilogy at Rockstar Warehouse for 30 bucks.

To answer this, The Double Pack and the Trilogy pack versions are the same as the Stand alone version-the only thing different is the fact it has 2 games in it(Double pack)/3 games for Trilogy. It would more than likely be cheaper to get the Trilogy pack(all 3 games-III, VC, and SA together) instead of buying all 3 seperate. Hope this helps.

Was talking about the 80gb. Smoothing does what it says it does and the ps2 doesn't compare to it after that.

The 80GB PS3's do not have backward compatibilty with PS3 games-I have the 80GB model(the original, NOT the Slim model), and PS2 games do not work in it-I still have to use my PS2 if I want to play PS2 games. So, Evidently, the 60GB models were the only ones that had Backwards Compatibilty?

I play them on the 360. The issues are definitely there. The slowdown in heavy traffic areas gets annoying. I have the PS2 versions but the xbox versions do look the best. I'm thinking of getting an original xbox just to play them.

Raptomex, thanks a lot. If the traffic slowdowns are an issue in all three games, I'm guessing it would be preferable to stick to the Double Pack, and purchase San Andreas through the Xbox Live Originals Arcade. Although, at Rockstar Warehouse, the most reliable retailer, the Double Pack is $10 more than the trilogy! Interesting. That means San Andreas downloaded + the double pack is $45, while the trilogy is $30. I have a trouble trusting Amazon, Ebay and other related retailers, so looks like I'll be going with the trilogy. Thanks, everyone.

I have the double pack. I never noticed or remember any of these issues when I first got my xbox back in 07 or 08. I assume they began after a certain update. Another thing I noticed is just in general gameplay, when driving or running, the game looks like it skips a little. I can't explain it. It's not like slowdown but like little skips. I guess you'd have to see it. I can't play it like that. It's a shame. San Andreas, however, plays great.

This is why I still play these games on PS2. The Xbox versions may have amazing graphics and progressive scan, but the PS2 versions are classics!

Do you have the Arcade model of the X-Box? If so, Do you have a Hard Drive on it(not just the default 256MB one that comes on the Arcade model). AFAIK, the Arcade model IS NOT compatible with Original X-Box games(as per the Box the console came in). I have the 60GB 360 model, and it IS compatible with the Original X-Box games. HTH.

If you have the External HD connected(which essentially makes it like the others), it should work-you might have to install an update for your x-box to make it compatible(similar to the way PS3's have updates from time to time....?

I forgot to ask, Is your 360 the older model OR the newer "slim" model?

Like I said, I have the 60GB Pro model and it is compatible with X-Box games-I tried it on III, VC, and SA and they all work great. This model is only $179 on Wal-Mart.com now, so it is cheaper than the Arcade model was.

As for the newer 360's, I know they have built in WiFi now, However, I am not sure if those are still compatible with X-Box games like the older(Pro and Elite) models were.? I tried looking in the descriptions for the newer consoles on Wal-Mart.com, but it doesn't say one way or the other...If the newer models are compatible with X-Box games, I recommend one of those, as they have a lot larger HD's than the older models and built in WiFi.
