blitz Posted May 7, 2011 Share Posted May 7, 2011 (edited) I've been through a peer pressure. I don't smoke, I don't drink, I don't do drugs. On the other hand, my friends do. At least some of them. And the problem is that every time there is a party, they bring booze or something. Last time I had a party, and two people smoked. I'm only 14. So have you pressurized someone to do something they were doubting, or been pressured? I know I have, and it isn't pretty. I know how to handle it, though. I am myself and if I don't want to do something, I don't but I know people who have fallen into the temptation. Edited May 7, 2011 by blitz. Pff, I am who I am and I won't let anyone change me even if it does make me unpopular so what? My friends don't drink, smoke or take drugs so I don't feel pressurized at all. When I hear stories from kids at my school about parties they've gone to and got seriously "wasted" or had a bit of "bump and grind" at those parties I just smirk and think, "Seriously? You're 14/15 and you're doing all of this? I'm glad I don't." Call me boring but I prefer something more simple, a bottle of Coke at a party and a few jokes with some good music is all I need. I always knew I was better than them, stronger. But for some reason I took pity on people and befriended them, even though they were - for the most part - easily led sheep. More lemming than human. Weak-willed and willing to engage in any level of debauchery for a cheap thrill. And these were some decent people at one point, not very intelligent perhaps, but decent all the same. But weakness is unforgivable in my book. So, they fall in with the wrong crowd. They succumb to peer pressure. One gets expelled, because he started hitting a femal teacher. One messes with the wrong people and gets stabbed in the face. And more than one of them simply knocked up some local whore and ruined their life completely. That is where weakness gets you. From 13/14-16 we were out most Friday and Saturday nights en masse (usually about 30 or so) on some local fields which varied from the middle of f*cking nowhere to a shady corner in a council estate getting smashed. A few of us came along every week, but didn't drink, because it was still a decent laugh. Never felt pressured to drink. Someone offering you a drink isn't peer pressure, it's just them trying to be nice usually. If you can confidently and politely deflect an offer you'll never be "pressured", but if you act like a pussy or act like a dick ("lol I wouldn't throw my life away like that") you'll just end up with fewer friends. That said, once we were all 16, friendship groups had splintered off a bit more and some parents actually trusted us to drink responsibly in their homes I was all over the stuff. I'd say don't ever do stuff just because everyone else is, or because someone tells you to. But don't act like a dick and think you're better than everyone for it. I actually penned a much longer post that contained anecdotes about style, and about getting into a fight at a chav-ish club before I realised that sometimes you need to compromise your style depending on context. Me doing drugs was my own choice, and I intend to keep it that way. The only thing I got suckered into were cigarettes, which I can't seem to shake off now. My friends sometimes do coke, and one guy's even hooked on heroin, and they tried to persuade me a million times, but I simply reject them. Never do sh*t your friends do to fit in, if they don't accept you for who you are, they're not really your friends. You are an aperture through which the universe is looking at and exploring itself. At the age of 15 i like to drink a bit ,yes, but i dont do it to be popular at school or to be in a group... i just drink because i like it (i dont like beer only vodka) and not at the point to go to hospital because of blackouts because i ve never reached at this point.
