Kriskers
Hello! I have been playing IV quite while now, with mods and dsound.dll and scripthook.dll. But now, when I installed a car mod, my game started crashing after loadscreen. Just loads, says "Loading - Game Complete" and crash. Ive tried deleting the game and reinstalling, but still, it crashes, even with fresh installs. But then I stumbled across a fix, saying that I should delete settings.cfg in <User>\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\Settings\Settings.cfg. I have Windows 7 and I HAVE NO settings.cfg IN THAT FOLDER Please help!
xDodox
Is the .cfg here?: C:\Users\Username\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV or in your GTAIV main folder? EDIT: Some folders are hidden, to show them, look here. Windows 7 - Hidden Files and Folders - Show or Hide xDodox
Kriskers
No, my PC shows the hidden folders. Also, No settings.cfg in my main folder nor in "My Documents/R* Games/ GTA IV/" EDIT: Just did a system search for settings.cfg and there are no files like that Edited May 6, 2011 by kristjannuus
mkey82
http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...entry1059261920 If this doesn't help, you need to make sure you're looking in the correct username profile, sometimes after renaming accounts on windows, things can get a bit confusing. Kriskers
Tried that, but still I end up with the same folder, where are only 2 files : Limits.dat and Xstring.dat

mkey82
If the file isn't there, then you probably deleted it already.
Kriskers
I haven't even touched that folder I didn't know that this folder exists Maybe my trainer overwrited something? My trainer is a .asi one.
mkey82
It's possible the file gets removed due to crashing. You should make sure the install folder is empty when you uninstall the game. Kriskers
Nope, nothing. Deleted the Rockstar Games folder, recycled bin, uninstalled GTA IV, reinstalled, installed 1.3.0 patch, THE SAME CRASH... Maybe my IV is just broken?
mkey82
Have you reinstalled GFWL update?
Kriskers
Yes, even that. How can a game still crash with a fresh install?
nightwalker83
Try doing a system restore.
Girish
Have you tried running the game in XP/Vista compatibility mode? What about Xliveless?
Kriskers
I also use XLiveless, Ill try the compatability modes.
Kriskers
Nope, compatabilty mode doesn't work either... System restore? My Windows 7 has saved GTA IV folder from exactly that time when it started crashing. Just a quick remainder, that the game started crashing when I installed my third car mod, which involved changing handling.dat and carcols.dat. Other carmods have worked. Kriskers
Well, I think the mod IS uninstalled when I uninstall and install the whole game 4 times...
mkey82
Just to make this 100% clear - did you make sure the install folder is empty before you installed the game the last time?

mkey82
It's not like someone's paying us to fix sh*t up, we have a limited number of suggestions, if those don't work what do you want me to tell you? That modding is not supported?
Kriskers
Well, you could tell me that my game is f***** and I should quit GTA.

mkey82
Are you even aware how many unsolved random issues there are with this game?
Kriskers
Yes, I am aware of that, but I am still confused that how 1 freaking car mod can screw up the whole system...
radioman
Since you have Mods installed, then that's the problem-Here is a quote from Justin(A Moderator) to prove it: If you've got a problem and you're using mods, the problem is the mods - no questions. These problems belong in Editing Troubleshooting. If you've got a problem and you 'know' it's not the mods ( ), uninstall the mods and ask for help then, and only then. Don't waste our time by posting issues with modded games! All modding discussions should be directed in the Modding Forums. Do a Un-install/re-install and play the game WITHOUT the mods and you will have a perfectly working game again. Mods are NOT supported nor tested by the game developers. This is why mods crash the game at times.. If you are so insistant on using mods, then go to the Modding forums, as this section is for UNMODDED GAMES ONLY-as noted at the top of every section...Just a friendly heads up.... Kriskers
I have told you 1000 times. I HAVE REINSTALLED THIS GAME 5 TIMES! And it still doesnt work I have deleted the whole rockstar games folder (including ALL the mod files). Recycled the bin, reinstalled and it still doesn't work.
