HipHopHeadSeb
wow: One of Mafia II's drawbacks was the extremely long driving times often required by a map that spread mission points very far apart. L.A. Noire will be twice the size - eight square miles to Empire Bay's four - and will require 30 minutes to traverse by car. i have mafia 2, the map isnt big at all.... im glad LA Noir will be twice the size. finally were gettin big city maps not sh*tty small GTA IV ones. EDIT : infact i think GTA IV is bigger then mafia 2 Edited May 8, 2011 by HipHopHeadSeb
Feed Me A Lolcat
it dont matter though man if its installed or not you still have to switch the disc when it tells you to, unless its bought from the marketplace which like i said becomes available after a few months most likely, but its not always the case because im still waiting for that castlevania lord of shadow game to become available on the marketplace Actually, you might not have to switch the discs. If it's done like in the above mentioned Castlevania.
Magic_Al
If the DVD limitations mean the city has to be of a similar size that GTA IV is, then I don't care about having 4 DVD's. I'll still buy it, install it on my PC and play the crap out of it! If more disks means more content and a bigger city with more things to do, then go for it! The whole city of L.A. Noire is on one DVD, because you only have to switch discs two times to progress through the story, and yet you can explore the entire city at any time, they say. That means the "free roam" basics of the game fit on one DVD. Again, it's the MotionScan talking head video that's taking the extra disc space. The fact you go through three copies of the city by changing discs would in theory allow depiction of seasons and physical changes, but since it's L.A. there wouldn't be much to see for seasons. Kwandilibro
Damn, that'd be awesome to have a multi disk GTA. Hopefully, it wouldn't be filled up with audio.
Lemus 91
Smallo,May 8 2011, 06:55] I honestly believe the game has been developed in a way that you will be able to install disk 2 and 3 to the HDD and only need disk 1 to play. Not everyone has the large HDD on their xbox though so I cant see them doing that. I mean LAN is 25gig or something? So 4 gig Xboxes wont be able to store. I see your point though, and I think it would be ideal if everyone had the 250gig units. Although those that do have the extra space on their HDD should have the advantage. And to those who don't, will have the disc-swapping way.

Magic_Al
Here is the battle of the maps: GTA IV vs. L.A. Noire. The scale of Liberty City was calculated here. The scale of L.A. Noire is calculated from real life: Franklin Ave. is 1.0 mile north of Santa Monica Blvd: Google Maps Here it is: Remember that the Xbox 360 does NOT have to change DVDs to explore the city, only to get to the next part of the story. The whole L.A. Noire map fits on one DVD.
DX2069
I hope GTA V takes up 4 or 5 disks. That'd be great! why would you wanna deal with that thats ridiculous get a ps3 and have one disk
Sunrise Driver
I can't imagine an open world game on multiple disks. Well I can. (GTA 4 as an example) - Disk 1 - Bohan, Disk 2 - Dukes + Charge + Airport, Disk 3 - Broker etc. When you travel between locations you see "please insert disc X". Just like loadings in III and VC. Music - either 128 kbps quality or exclusive music for each locations. I hope they won't release the game on X360 at all. This 6-year old hardware is a pain in the ass for developers. M$ should make a new console or go away. L.A. Noire you say? But have you seen those textures? Not any better than in GTA IV IMO. I'd say even worse a bit. I'd say even worse a bit. It wouldn't work like that, the disc changing would be related to storyline. As much as i love my PS3 i gotta give you the facts. Why does it matter if they release it on Xbox or not? if people are willing to use multiple discs why not. PS3 Hardware is just as outdated as xbox, except PS3 has a blu-ray drive. I dunno about the texture thing, it can be hard to say but i think LA Noire's textures (judging by the videos) are much more detailed and clean. Each to their own opinion. Knife
When Vice City was released I remember R* saying how they were running out of DVD space. Then they made San Andreas. Noire's massive map is going to be on all 3 of the disks. GTA V will fit on one fine.
jumper2011
Close pls. Fanboy topic is pointless. LA Noire was an PS3 exclusive, ps3 was lead platform. That was the problem. Who cares if la noire is 3 dvds? GTA5 will be only one DVD.

Smallo92
Just as well Noire never had Freemode for example. How would that work across 3 discs? Did you read the topic or just post? It has been explained multiple times that the only thing thats across the 3 disks is the storyline. The Map/freeroam is on the one disk.

M$ should make a new console or go away. L.A. Noire you say? But have you seen those textures? Not any better than in GTA IV IMO. I'd say even worse a bit. Better textures is what you get in the PC version of GTA IV. Blu-ray has enough space to hold those textures but the PS3 isn't fast enough to use them. An open-world game can never look as high-res as a game that keeps you in one long hallway because in an open world they can't fake the distant scenery, everything has to be "real" with equal detail. L.A. Noire proves that the PS3 having Blu-ray does NOT (1) help the map be bigger than GTA IV or (2) allow the map to have better textures than GTA IV. The main reason L.A. Noire's map is bigger is because they copied the real layout of Los Angeles, and so the design process is editing a real city that already existed rather than designing a city from scratch like GTA IV. People think GTA IV is New York but under the skin the map layout and how everything fits together is a completely original design. L.A. Noire got to spend its budget elsewhere. NCONiall
I don't really mind map size, as long as the city is well designed and based on Miami . As for disc size, I play on PC and PS3 so it's not really a big deal for me, however I think Rockstar will make the next GTA hassle free(as in setting it up) for all current platforms, as it could put people off buying the game if they have say like the 4GB version Xbox 360, which pretty much forces those users to go out and buy a new HDD. lazloisdavrock
I think Consoles need to ditch physical copies of games or make release date downloads of games on each consoles network. 3 disc pretty much sucks. Would be easier to just download the game. On steam on PC, we can buy and download the game the second the release day comes. super convenient

lazloisdavrock
what about people who dont have the internet? True. they should still release digitally and about San Andras. San Andreas used 4.2 gb of the 4.7 available. boy did they cut it close. It fit mostly because of the low textures for the ps2. it was 4.7 exactly for PC. Hobo-Lord
Rockstar only used 5.7GB (or something like that) for the Xbox 360 Version in GTA IV of the 8.5 Yes, its true that the more the merrier, but have any of you actually looked at what makes the game file so huge? its not the map its not the animations but its the audio and textures. If they're running out of space, then all they have to do is compress some audio files, and that will at least free 1 GB of development space
