[WIP] Vice City Beta Weapons

Weirdo.

Introduction

Betas are always interesting, and this one is no exception. There is literally a plethora of weapons ranging from M16s to nail guns to staplers. Luckily for you, I have converted every single left over file, and made icons for every one. Some weapons have custom stats, even more have custom text edits.

Here's a list of the complete arsenal. RED = unfinished, GREEN = done.

Nightstick

  • The taser. The proposed idea now for weapon stats is that it's very powerful, taking one/two hits to kill a ped (as in knocking them out the same way teargas in the GTA series does, per se).

Grenade

  • GTA III grenade, through a simple texture edit (what? the models are exactly the same).

Python

  • The Snub, an alternative Python with a shorter barrel.
  • The CS version, another alternate Python with a slightly shorter barrel.
  • The silenced Colt, a supposed Colt 45 with a silencer. Weapon stats modified to use the Colt 45 animation, and SFX edited to make it silenced. Damage dealt is kept the same to make it worth buying.

Shotgun

  • The CS version, with a longer barrel.
  • The GTA III version.

Tec 9

  • The nail gun, comes with custom stats to make it fire slower, fire weaker, but fire three hundred rounds in one sitting.

Ingram Mac 10

•Silenced version seen on official site and hinted at in 'weapon.dat'. Will come with sounds, when it's finished.

Uzi 9mm

  • The GTA III micro Uzi, using the final Ingram icon. Weapon.dat edit makes it use its animations, as well.

MP5

  • The CS version that's basically a short version with a handle. Even comes with an unused icon left over on the PS2 disc.

Ruger

  • Simply put, a shorter version using the PS2 texture.

M4

  • M16 from GTA III.
  • Steyr Aug, left over on the PS2 disc.

RPG

  • GTA III M72 LAW

PSG-1

  • Basically, the silencer was removed.

Known Bugs

The nail gun still has average weapon attributes such as a muzzle flash, cases falling out when shot, no actual nail projectiles, etc., etc. Also, if anyone who can script move the selling of this item from Ammunation to Tooled Up, that'd be swell. Also, the Steyr Aug's positioning is a bit off, but that can be fixed.

~Happy modding!

Awesome, I always loved this idea, although there must be a way to get peds pinned up against objects after being hit.

sweeet, i love it. If someone makes it bugs free, I'd totally install this! Great work as always, weirdo.

Edit: Is icon scratch made, or did ps2 disc included it?

Awesome!

Although, I recommend replacing melee weapon instead and changing weapon.dat in such way that it will act like a gun, it's easy to do

Thank you, and it's scratch made. As far as I can tell, only the beta MP5 had its beta icon left over.

@lolleroz: Maybe I'll try to have it replace the screwdriver so it can be sold at hardware stores. If I do get this done, a YouTube video will be up soon.

Nah, it should work like in Manhunt. Shoot like f*ck until dead. A really weak gun.

You are an aperture through which the universe is looking at and exploring itself.

I agree on that. On another note, can someone hand me some files from the PS2 disc? I want to make icons and all for all the beta weapons, and attempt to convert them. But I probably wouldn't do the stapler, as it would be far too weak and implausible to replace a real gun.

Yeah R* cutted so many cool things, and this is awesome!

PS: Wow your Tommys looking so awesome? Could you upload them? Or give us/me the download link.

Thanks.

I agree and thank you. I'm working on a pack right now, it's gonna be beta Tommy and all the left over weapons. Like the silenced Colt, Steyr Aug, etc. etc.

Excuse the double post, but it's a necessary step in order to get the topic more attention. Teaser:

Good job!

I had no goddamn idea about a beta silenced pistol, by the way. Was it in PS2 files or what?

I'm not sure if it's Beretta or Colt... the beggining of the slide makes it look like Beretta. I still say it's a Colt though.

One thing that always bothered me is the fact that Ingram (aka Mac-10) is called 'Ingram Silenced' in game files while it has no silencer, however the Uzi sound (don't mix it up with Ingram!) sounds exactly like...silenced Ingram.

I'm trying to find a way for you to replace melee weapons with new guns you're gonna make, with sounds for them as well...it would be dumb if we would have to replace Python for silenced Colt.

It's a Colt, and it was left on the PS2 files. I think it should replace the Python, not a melee weapon because for one, you couldn't wield a melee weapon anymore, and two, the game would become unbalanced with two handguns at the same time. And it's not going to replace the Colt 45, seeing as how a cop shouldn't be using a silencer. I will likely include two options for the Python slot, which will be this gun, or the cutscene version with the longer barrel. This one will likely come with San Andreas' silenced pistol sounds.

I would also like to note that on the PS2 files, there is a model called 'uziold', which is the GTA III Uzi and will likely replace the Uzi we have now (then a simple edit will give it fitting animations).

Alrighty then. Didn't like the python anyway, way too slow.

keep working on this weirdo smile.gif

Don't worry, I'm not going to fizzle out like every other beta mod out there (not that this is a TC). I'm going to compile a list here for alternate beta weapons and general replacements:

chromegun -> cutscene version with longer barrel or GTA 3 shotgun

grenade -> GTA 3 version

Ingram -> silenced version from VCS (with some improvements to fit in of course)

PSG-1 -> version with removed silencer

M4 -> M16 or Steyr Aug or CS version

MP5 (long) -> short cutscene version with unused PS2 icon

nightstick -> taser

RPG -> GTA 3 rocket launcher

Ruger -> modified longer version with PS2 texture

Tec 9 -> nail gun

Uzi -> GTA 3 Uzi

Python -> 'the snub', an alternate, shorter version of said gun (discovered on PS2 disc) or the cutscene version with a slightly shorter barrel or the silenced Colt

GREEN = done, RED = unfinished.

Most will get their own custom icons. I'm probably missing something but take that as you will.

Awesome!

By the way I believe PSG-1 is wrongly named in the game, it seems to look more like MSG-90 (nearly the same thing, but still)

Just with shorter magazine and silencer on.

Some one like you should start a beta total conversion. someone who really understands how this sh*t should work.

Very good job although M60 to Steyr Aug would be better replacement I think smile.gif Also is there a way to add new weapons instead of replacing? CLEO anyone?

Someone added a new weapon to SA by cleo script recently (and some gta.dat editing) I am looking into that, I just wonder if VC's cleo opens the same possibilities...

I wonder that as well, there's way to many weapons stuffing up everything. I'm pretty much all done with the models themselves; I just need to touch up some icons a bit, make separate GXT edits, weapon.dat, sounds, then make an all-in-one pack where you can choose to install packs of weapons all at once without hassle. How I'm exactly going to do that with all these weapons, I'm not sure. Maybe even a PM me, get your own customized pack for release.

I also did make more edits than I led you to believe. I looked at the pictures very closely and did things like shortening magazines, and moving/deleting/resizing/rotating pieces. If we can add more weapons through CLEO or limit adjusters, then the stapler will also get converted with its own hand-made icon. I've considered making a TC, but you know how fast those things collapse. If I do it and worst comes to worst, any completed/unfinished files so far would get released.

Meh, make a TC just release a load of beta's, or release one big pack when you've done everything you plan.

There'll probably be some extras included as well, like a Vice Point Langer hotel fix, PS2 particles, small beta details no-one ever seems to notice, uncompressed hud.txd, but that stuff might probably be released as a separate 'fix' pack on GTAGarage. Anyhow, despite not being done, Rob is giving me the idea of releasing an early tester's pack. Anyone willing to test some stuff?

Pretty cool. I had made my own version of beta weapons, but I just never released them. By the way, where did you get those cutscene model replacements for the in game models?

That's one ways of how I can help ^^

Um... me? They're pretty easy to convert. smile.gif The exact files were 'mfour' dff and txd, 'mp5shrt' dff and txd, and 'dshtgun' (I think) dff and txd, if that's what you meant.

@lolleroz: Alright, sure, I'll hit you up with a tester's pack and some edits that need to be made to weapons.dat.

No, I meant the cutscene player models. I'm sorry I should have been more specific.

First two sentences apply again. I simply edited the vertices of Tommy's cutscene model then had Rob rig it.
