GTA IV as that was based on NYC and I felt that it really captured the new york feel well.

IIIs version was a bit too dull and uninteresting.

Like most people, I'd say IV & EfLC. The atmosphere and level of detail was great and the layout helped the city feel more dense then it really was. The only thing that's missing is the sense of danger that was found in III.

IV and the EFLC rendition.

I always thought the GTA III era LC was too small, even back when III first came out. Its appearance was fine for the time, but the size of the city always put me off a bit. I'm glad they made it much larger in IV and better detailed, the city really felt alive and immersive.

Mine is GTA III! Yes, the city is smaller and with less details, but the GTA III's "LC" is the perfect example of the "Worst Place In America". It's the city who suits GTA the most!

It isn't weird, it's just your opinion. I believe GTA4's Liberty City is better.

I agree with Cid about the 'worst place in america' part. III era's LC really did feel dangerous. I loved the kind of lore they created for it, like the Liberty Tree manual for LCS describing how much of a sh*thole the city really is, to VCS' manual describing a recent rampage and liking it to "Liberty City style violence". You just don't get that feeling as much in IV.

In saying that though, I believe IV's LC to be the greatest open world city in any video game so far, the amount of detail and the level of immersion you feel is astounding. I was playing SA the other day and it was disappointing how empty the cities looked in comparison.

Nah majority voted for 4 obviously because a lot of them won't have even played GTA III and/or think graphics are superior to gameplay, sad state of affairs... f*ck the world

no, I preferred the more realistic take on city life, plus the detail and sheer size. If I voted for IV purely for the graphics I would have said

GTA 4, Even though it didn't have snow, this is my Favorite game, and always will be, until later games of GTA comes out.

I like IV's version the best as it captured New York really well. GTA III had the best atmosphere though.

Second point isn't an issue considering that as well as superior graphics, IV also boasted far superior gameplay than the previous titles.

The "Worst Place in America" theme they had in III was too exaggerated IMO. Too much rant about how sh*tty the city was.

I'm amazed people think that, fair enough if you do. But IMO III era played a lot better, I feel rather disconnected from the slow moving weighty IV characters.

I love the dark GTA III rendition but the finest rendition is the remake in Liberty City Stories. I love that LC rendition with the three islands and in III, I felt it was just too dark for it's own good. The brightness added in LCS was the perfect balance and perfected the city to it's full potential. If I had caught the "III & LCS" option, I would have gone with that though. Awesome city with a nice nightmarish feel to it. IV's rendition is a nice place to live in but it has more of a luxury feel to it than GTA atmosphere.

I voted for the gloomy and rainy GTA:III's Liberty City. It has some kind of unique charm about it which is not present in any othrer GTA game.

The 3 era in general had some odd charm to it, didn't it? I feel that same charm in GTA CTW DS, but not in the PSP version for some reason. I think it's because these games were more revolutionary, GTA4 was perhaps just as revolutionary, but I think we expected something like it.

Maybe people just generally like the GTA IV rendition more. Ever think of that? I played GTA III the day it came out, and I think GTA IV's rendition leaves it for dead to be honest.

It's pretty hard to compare graphics as obviously there's a huge gap from GTA III to GTA IV. Graphics aside I like GTA IV's LC's design more. R* wanted to make LC look, and feel more like NYC, and I believe they reached all of their goals with GTA IV.

Even moreso it just feels more like a "city" should be. The sights, sounds etc in GTA IV's LC is so much more appealing. GTA III has a higher level of danger, but the city itself is very boring. IMO

Whenever I'm not looking over my shoulder looking for Triads, Yardies, Leones, etc I find it extremely difficult to immerse myself into the city. GTA IV's LC has never left me a feeling like that.
