ACL tear experience

Scharkey

Recommended Posts

I completely tore my ACL 6 mo. ago skating. Since I tore it, I've been skating almost everyday (flatground stuff) with no serious re-injuries. I have surgery Monday for a donor's achilles tendon to stand in for my ACL and was wondering what some of your personal experiences went like.

I plan on working hard on my physical therapy and getting back on my board in 6-9 months. At the moment I'm most worried about the first week. Was that first week more painful than the actual injury and how crucial is it to move your knee during this period? My first PT appointment is a week post-op, but I want to start therapy as soon as possible so I am not bound by crutches for a month.

Any advice or stories is appreciated!
