Why I think the "leaks" are fake...

Okay I just read this article about a while ago, and came to the conclusion that the leaks are just plain sh*t, and are lacking character. R* has been known for making interesting and very detailed characters, and by the looks of all the info we've been receiving, it seems that all the casting calls (from Rush, which some people think is a codename for GTA V) seem to be lacking something significant.

Anyways... I'm just going over this article. It's not a leak at all, so don't get your hopes up.

Mitch Hayes:

38 – Annoying, wise cracking, highly successful FBI agent. In great shape. Does triathlons, drinks low cal beer, but still has a sense of humor.

Eddie:

47 – Weed evangelist, guy who started smoking at 30, and is now a leading proponent of marijuana’s fantastic properties. White, awkward.

Kevin De Silva:

18 – Albert’s fat, FPS-playing gamer son. Smokes a lot of weed, has anxiety issues and a card for a bad back, very soft, very opinionated. Into making racist comments while playing online.

I agree with the person that wrote this article (Chris Hawke). Now some of you seem to interpret that these characters are GTA like, but you MIGHT be wrong.

Weed evangelist, FPS playing gamer son, WTF?

An 'FPS gaming' character does not seem to blend in with Grand Theft Auto. Now if this was ever implemented into a video game like GTA, it would be boring, and a bit too stereotypical. Also, it just lacks too much characteristics R* would create. I could imagine an FPS gamer, who smokes a lot of weed, in a f*cking Grand Theft Auto game. Just doesn't fit right in IMO.

Also, an annoying, wise cracking character. This sounds a lot familiar. It also seems very GTA like. But yet, this characteristic has already been used enough in GTA, and it's arrived to the point where it's overused. Come on R*, give us something new, just like you've done in other previous GTA titles...

And now on to the big one - Gilbert Gottfried voicing the lead in GTA V.

This, I find the most sh*ttiest. Imagine listening to the f*cking Aflac duck, for the whole damn duration of a f*cking video game. Goddammit, these leaks are just plain sh*t. Rockstar is known for making VERY detailed and interesting characters, and judging by the casting calls we've received, it's come to the conclusion that these casting calls are fake and plain sh*t.

P.S: I might have left a sh*tload of details out, but just read the article I've linked. You will change your opinion once you read it.

Or, you know, R* just gave completely false information about characters like always.

Did anyone actually think those casting calls described actual characters?

There have been two casting leaks. The first one under the title 'RUSH', and the recent one under the title 'Private'. I know for sure that one of them is totally made up, but I don't know about the other one, though I won't specify which casting call is the one that's really made up, and I won't tell why! wink.gif

A lot of people did, including myself. But after reading this article, I realized that they were just fake. Also, I had never realized R* had given false information...

This is just to let the people who actually believe this, know it's fake.

And why do you think that in a cast call, Rockstar would write down every small bit of information about a character? Did you think about that their descriptions might be less detailed than what we will get in the final product?

This article is just speculating and that's it. It could be fake, it could be real, but if compare these to the characters in previous GTAs, you'd know they are exactly the kind of characters they'd put in a GTA installment... GTA is known of stereotypes, just look at all the games in the series. smile.gif

Besides, what's with that James Pedeaston thing?

@MasterK - Even though they aren't very detailed at this point, it still gives off what the character might be like. An FPS gamer. I already know that's going to be a f*cking no life fatass, who smokes weed. Oh wait, he does, and apparently a lot of it...

I don't get how a character like that could be in a video game like GTA. Anyways, I suggest reading the article...

Oh, and that Gilbert Gottfried thing is just plain bullsh*t. Just another leak we know is fake.

The thing with Grand Theft Auto is, Rockstar loves to mock, parody & over-exaggerate pop culture. Whether that be movies, famous news stories, products & advertisements filling up internets, magazines & billboards across the country. I mean if you look at GTAIV you can't go 5 seconds without encountering an instance of mockery.

Think about it, what has taken the spotlight away from Grand Theft Auto series while the next game is in development? Call of Duty. This obsession with CoD is something that has passed me by, I must admit, but you'd have to be living under a rock for the past few year to not know about the game. For Rockstar to put even the tiniest reference to it should not come as a surprise to anyone who knows GTA.

The leaks shouldn't be cast off just for the trivial reason that a character that likes FPS & smokes weed won't fit into your idealism. These leaks are minor, minor characters in my opinion. Radio personalities, maybe as low as talk show phone-in guests, (if the TV makes a return) characters in a show on the in-game tv. Main protagonists & ancillary characters' casting adverts will be locked up tight, of course. So I wouldn't get too down over the fact that you think it might be boring because you probably won't even notice them in the final game.

Exactly, also I've seen casting notices before and they don't go into any deeper detail than what we've seen here.

R* are reputed to be masters of the art of buzz, spreading and capitalizing on word of mouth at least in the gaming sphere... perhaps intentionally placed misinformation and misdirection is all part of their grand marketing strategy. It effectively and cheaply re-ignites the base [their foot-soldiers] and it throws off the scent whilst stoking the flame and whetting the appetites.

All these generally twitter related posts could be red herrings or just a bad case of bandwagon jumping. They could have sent IGN and other sites a fake press kit and put out these false reports about casting.

If so let's hope all this enthusiasm generated intentionally or otherwise isn't going to be channeled into some of the non-gta-related projects coming down the pipeline in the near future.

I have been thinking that it is a little odd that this is (supposedly) the first GTA that has ever had leaks, and why R* didn't register those infamous domain names from a shelled site.

OK, i'm going to skip to the part where they tell you to listen to Gilberts voice, THATS NOT HIS REAL VOICE! if you heard his real voice without knowing it was him, you'd never guess it was even him. He's an actor, that's what they do...

For me just the opposite. Rush had the support of being mentioned by actors/models who listed it on their resumes before it was known. Also the casting was in line with what we heard about Frozen.

The James Pedeaston list seemed too on the nose. The characters had recognizable names, etc. James Pedeaston in San Andreas was voiced by a pro. It doesn't make a lot of sense that they'd seek out a freelancer for his character this time.

Bump.

There's been a lot of discussion lately about the leaked casting calls. Many people are accepting their contents as fact.

The "James Pedeaston" list is most definitely fake, and I suspect that a certain Mr. FiS!!HeR is responsible. tounge.gif It lacks the literary flair of the first list, the characters are too 'obvious' (recycled from old games) and not to mention it was posted only a few days after the first casting call was discovered. What are the chances of that? I'm shocked that so many people fell for this.

The first list, on the other hand, is probably real. If these characters are 'lacking something' then it's because they are minor. The other characters referenced in the call - Albert, Simon, and Tae's father - are probably the "A" list characters, whereas the characters listed in the call itself are the "B" list characters.

The poster above me has it spot on.

This. I wouldn't expect to have mayor characters leaked as R* would f*cking flip out,you know how secretive they are,the casting call leaks are practically a miracle.

If it really is the GTAV cast I would expect Rockstar to describe the characters with as little detail as possible as they, you know want to keep it a secret dozingoff.gif not only to keep it a surprise for the fans but also to keep hundreds if not thousands of people from begging for a role in whats most likely the biggest entertainment related product of 2012-13 . How stupid would it be if they straight up gave away what the project was for example,

Simon: The main character of production, An often violent trouble maker who is known to spontaneously commit acts of GTA.

As for Gilbert Gottfried he may have a connection to the next game but I doubt he's the New guy however if he is the protagonist I say why not, his parrot voice from Aladdin isint his real voice

. I think he could pleasantly surprise us and pull off the tough guy role, its not like the job requires him to look intimidating. Edited by Gregers08

The first leaks are real no doubt, but the second ones are trolls!

RUSH is the codename, hence.

Gilbert Gottfried rumor is completely false! (From a troll site)

The casting calls can be radio voices, not necessarily story driven characters! (Names can also be changed)

The announcement of GTA V is going to be most likely around Saints Row 3 release window!(Payback)

Max Payne trailer is coming next month!(Max Paynes anniversary and LA Noire DLC will be out the way)

San Andreas is not going to be the main location of GTA NEXT! (I can absolutely guarantee that doing so wont make much sense, unless there's some tropical elements added)

This.

I forget what it was called but the pretext made for the casting of GTAIV was some sci-fi thing.

So yeah, they are fake, but still almost certainly from R*.

EDIT: Duh, I just noticed this was bumped from ages ago.

just cause there is a perfectly detailed explanation of a character doesnt make it fake, why would hey give a casting call that has every possible detail on it so anyone can see it, it may be a fake but to say it is because it doesnt give a long essay on the details of the character is nonsense

That, and the casting call(that's what he's talking about right) lists a pot smoking teenager who likes to play online video games. Agent is set during the cold war. Back then online gaming pot heads weren't as big as they are now.

and what if some of this is true and it's all about the new GTA? What if Rockstar wants us to think it's fake, and by mixing true and fake they're trying to keep our interest alive, but nothing concrete to focus at?

So, what's your exact complaint?

The characters wouldn't fit in GTA because they haven't been in it? You don't know the story of whatever it is that R* are (or aren't) developing... for now you have to think they know better than we do.

The characters wouldn't fit in GTA because they've already been in it? Not great either...

The whole FPS-gamer son sort of makes me think of the geek who owned the RC shop in San Fiero, but that's probably the point of those character descriptions; vague and intended to mean different things to different people.

Let's go over the detail of 'leaks' by all means but we'd be arrogant to think we know better than the people building the story.
