Episodes from Liberty PS3 problems

I bought this several months ago, used from Amazon, with a disk that was perfect - The box was still in plastic. I have installed it twice to see if that would fix my problems, and checked the CLEAN disk for dust or scratches, but nothing seems to help (I was hoping Rockstar had released patches, but no such luck!).

What happens:

1. Buildings and streets won't load - I drive over nothing and hit walls I can't see. This doesn't happen all the time, however, but it's very annoying.

2. Music on the radio is interrupted by commercials, and vice versa.

3. Music in the club stops randomly - The mission where you have to dance in BOGT won't work because the music won't play, and I cannot progress in the game because of it.

4. Dialogue in missions stops, and all I hear are the background noises - Birds, cars etc.

Can anyone help me, or tell me if I just need to buy a new copy? barf8bd.gif

Post system specifications.

The topic title says PS3, so I'm guessing he's talking about having the game installed on his PS3 hard drive?

Even in the title I say it's a PS3 game - GTA 4 won't work on my PC.

So... No solutions? No one else experiences this?

Sorry, haven't seen it. Not much you can do, past getting a new game copy and/or a PS3 unit.

A new PS3 unit? Are you kidding me? icon13.gificon13.gificon13.gifrolleyes.gif I just got in in December, and it works perfectly for other games.

And unless you have the game for PS3, which I doubt you do since you seem to have it for PC, you're of little help. I don't mean to be rude, but I'm just trying to find out if it's a common problem among other players.

There is nothing you can do nor change, it's a console. There are no settings, drivers, upgrades; there is nothing but the unit and the game disk. I'm assuming the console is having a hard time reading the disk hence you're getting that problem.

Give this a try.

Delete the game file and game save file.

Make sure your logged in to PSN.

Re-install.

I don't mean to be rude again, but you're not familiar with the PS3 are you? Games and the console receive updates/patches all the time.

There is, I repeat, nothing wrong with the console. The disk is clean: No dust, scratches, or little men doing gymnastics. Other games work fine.

Uramet, I did that before: Did not work.

Bucky, I know it's awkward but repeat my steps a couple of times.

I had the same problem, but with the original gta iv (I had installed it many times on different psn accounts and had it working fine, then one time it went weird similar to what you say, it took a few delete/installs before I could get it working again.)

Thanks - I'd rather be dumb than rude any day. suicidal.gif You realize that I am correct, right? PS3 has frequent updates, and Rockstar has released patches for games before.

Uramet, I did it before - I am not deleting my save game again for nothing to happen. There aren't any patches for Episodes anyway.

Since you are on Console(PS3), about the only things you can try are: (1) To make sure you PS3's firmware is up to date and (2) Try a new disc and see if the problem persists-luckily the game is less than $17 now a days(16.96 @ Wal-Mart.com and Wal-mart #1362 to be exact), so that may be a cheap fix.-that is one of the big problems of buying used games, is that you don't know what condition the game is in or how much it was played/how well the disc was taken care of by the previous owner(s). btw, I play the PS3 version myself, is how I got the info about the PS3 updates and to try a new disc.

But, as far as problem #2 your alleging that there are commercials in the radio, that is not a problem, it is normal-ALL GTA's have commercials in the game radiostations-from III to VC to SA to LCS to VCS to IV to EFLC. So this is normal and not a problem...

dontgetit.gif Did you read this, or just skim?

1. I update the PS3 all the time.

2. I'm trying to avoid that

3. I have stated the disk is clean, perfect - No dust or scratches. I bought it for a dollar less than the normal price - STILL HAD PLASTIC ON

4. I know there are commercials on the radio - I have played every single GTA game. The problem is not with the commercials, is that they interrupt the songs, and the songs interrupt them. Imagine listening to someone talk to you, and then a train coming through the room and hitting them - They cease talking, and you're focused on the train - Somehow the person makes the train disappear and continues talking, but on an entirely different subject.

One last final try, but this discussion is less promising then talking at a wall.

For example, if you encounter any issues on the PC you can

1. change various drivers on your system

2. switch various game versions

3. use some tools to bypass possible issues

4. tweak the configuration

5. change/refresh the OS install

6. upgrade

On the console, being PS3, xbrick or which ever other type imaginable

1. you can change the whole unit

2. you can try some other game copy

You can not

1. upgrade

2. test various game versions

3. mess around with system files and configuration

as ALL the units are the SAME or at least they should be plus you have no access to anything. Now, for such a smart individual, I find it entertaining you don't know some basic stuff. For instance, if you have extreme popup issues on a console then either

1. the console is malfunctioning

2. the console has a tough time reading the disk (a problem with the disk or the reader)

3. even if the disk is clean it could still be defective and partially unreadable suicidal.gif

Yes, I understand that the PS3 has an advanced update system and yes that is NOT going to help you.

Yes, I understand that the PS3 has an advanced update system and yes that is NOT going to help you.

1. You keep saying "get a new unit" which is stupid: IT WORKS FINE. Stop suggesting it - You have a bias.

2. Why are you here when you're not helping me? I don't want to go buy a new game copy. I am a college student: I don't have a penny to my name.

3. The PS3 is upgraded all the time - You download updates all the time! If you want to get that technical, no PS3 player can "upgrade" until the PS4 comes out. If you're going to get that harsh about it, you might as well buy a whole new computer instead of letting Windows update itself. Sony updates the software all the time.

4. Test various game versions? I'm sorry, but this doesn't compute. I guess I'm too "dumb" or too much of a "wall" to figure it out. There are demos of games available on PSN, which are different than the completed version. Why would I want different versions of a GTA game? I have the PC version too: There's ONE game, one version, one Niko, and then you can mod it from there.

5. I can't mess with my system files or configuration? When was the last time you played a PS3?

- All PS3's aren't the same - Mine doesn't have backwards comp, is 160 gb, and is updated all the time. There are ones with much less GB than mine - Ones that have backwards comp, and some that the owners don't bother updating at all. I don't have access to anything? That's funny, because the PSN and internet give me access to quite a few things. It's a game console - If I wanted to play it on my computer I would play it on my computer.

1. Console is fine.

2. Console is fine.

3. Yes, just like a man with AIDS can look fine, but isn't.

4. It can help me, considering games have had errors that companies fixed. It's called a Patch.

Why are you in here if you're obviously not helping me, and think I'm dumb? I've asked a question, and you have no real answer. You've made it clear that you think everyone should burn their PS3s to bits and just use a PC, but we don't live in your fantasy.

I don't want to go buy a new game copy. I am a college student: I don't have a penny to my name.

That part doesn't make sense, you say you don't have money, but yet are able to buy a $400 game console(since you said you had the 160gb model, as mine is the 80GB model, and was $299, so the 160GB had to be close to $400 since it is a bigger HD), but you don't have $16 for a game? That part doesn't add up/make sense. Just curious on that one, as you've contradicted yourself on that one. confused.gif That may be the ONLY solution on console, is to buy a new disc(be glad it is only $16 now and not $49(IV)/$39.96(EFLC) like it was when the games originally came out)...This is also the cheapest fix, as like has been mentioned, there may be scratches on the disc that is not visible to the human eye.

But, that is why we (mkey82 and I) said to try a new disc, to see if it is the disc that is at fault OR if it is the console. Cause it is possible the console may be having trouble reading the disc(ie. there might be deeper scratches on the disc that are not visible to the human eye). OR it might be the laser lens on the console going out. I had this happen on my PS2 before, where it had trouble reading the disc, then all of the sudden one day I went to use it and it would not read the discs anymore.-luckily, it was around the time when the PS2's came down to $99, so it wasn't that much of a problem replacing it. If you don't want to buy a new disc(which is only $16 now a days), then just borrow the game from one of your friends and test it out that way before you go buy a new copy...

Also, that is one of the downfalls of buying an used copy, as if you had bought a new copy to begin with, and there was a problem with it, you could have simply took it back to the store and exchanged it(got a new game) at no cost. That is why it is not always good to buy used games. Just a friendly heads up.

There's ONE game, one version, one Niko, and then you can mod it from there.

Actually, there are 3 versions of IV on the consoles(the Original and Greatest Hits and the complete edition that comes with EFLC on the same disc) and for EFLC, there are three versions for that too(the DLC(Download version) and the EFLC Original and there is the Complete Edition that is coupled with IV.) So, that part about there being only one(1) version is false...Just a friendly heads up.

4. I know there are commercials on the radio - I have played every single GTA game. The problem is not with the commercials, is that they interrupt the songs, and the songs interrupt them. Also, you are going to have to specify on this problem a lot more.? If you change stations and come back to that station OR if you change vehicles, etc.. the radiostation does change tracks..just like in real life, how if you are listening to a song on the radio-for example say I am listening to 107.3 The Groove and one song is on-I get up and walk way and come back, and the song is ending/going to commercial break..same here the radiostation changed track/went to commercials..it's kind of hard to guess what you are trying to get at unless you upload a sample recording of the problem... confused.gif

1. Where did I say "Get a new unit"? And even if I had, how would that make me biased? You should stop using words you don't understand. I guess a person like you doesn't have friends, but if this was about me, I would pick up my console and the game and go to my friend's house, to test the disk in their console and the console unit with their game copy.

2. I'm helping you, but you're not listening. Help me help you.

3. No, it's being updated, it can't be upgraded (as far as performance is concerned). And those updates have zero to no effect on performance.

4. PC version has 7 patch versions + the vanilla version and you're free to switch to any of them at any given moment. PS3 version however does NOT have this.

5. You really have no idea what you're talking about, but it's OK, don't allow me to tell you any different, go tweak that PS3 of yours lol

All PS3 have the same capability when it comes to game performance, they are built as one and the same platform. The production process is optimized obviously and some of the features change, but the platform is the same.

With this being said, let me ask you a question:

If there is a fix for this issue of yours, like some setting in the PS3 menus lol, why there isn't anyone posting about it?

Dude, I GOT THE PS3 IN DECEMBER! Christmas present. I actually bought the used copy with money I had saved up - It was still in the plastic it originally came in - FROM AMAZON.

IV doesn't cost 49 anymore, by the way.

The console is fine. IT WORKS WITH OTHER GAMES!!!

What the hell is wrong with you? I said the commercials interrupt the song: I am in the CAR, the song is playing, it is suddenly interrupted, in the MIDDLE OF THE SONG, by a COMMERCIAL, then the commercial will often be interrupted, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COMMERCIAL'S SENTENCE, with a totally different song.

Look, it's obvious you're not reading through this thread, and Mkey, who I read through his posts and he has a history of being an ass, have no idea what you're talking about. I thought I could get HELP, not brainless suggestions like "Get a new console" or "get a new game" when I already stated: I don't have the money for a new game, and I don't want to have to get a new game even if I had the money. I want to fix the problem: The idea is that someone else, who OWNS THE PS3 VERSION OF EPISODES, may have also had the problem and found a way to fix it.

So thanks for nothing. Call me a troll, or a dumbass, but I'm outta here. Please post whatever makes you feel better about yourselves; either way, this thread is dead to me and should have been locked when I was originally called dumb. Bye.

f*ck you. Ban me. This forum is useless for help; and discussion for that matter.

The PS3 is not a PC. Problems like yours rarely have solutions. And calm the f*ck down. mkey82 and radioman have just provided you with mere suggestions. No one said you have to take them.

Do any of your friends have a PS3? Is it possible for you try your game on their PS3? If yes, get back to us with the results and we'll see where we can go from there.

Girlish, do you own Episodes from Liberty City for PS3? If so, do you experience any of the problems that I do? If you do, how have you gone about fixing it? Has there been patch released? How did you download it?

Is that better? If you don't own the game for the PS3, you really offer nothing for me, because I'm not an idiot: I can figure out if it's just my disk if someone provided me with that information.

I just don't see how you guys could think that it was my system when I said multiple times that my system was fine. Other games work fine for it (Little Big Planet likes to Audio skip, though, for some reason. That was fixed by turning the ingame music totally off), and it was purchased in December.

Then why haven't you figured it out yet? If your system is fine, then the problem has to be the disc. We could have avoided all the unnecessary blabber if you had just cross-checked the disc in the first place.

I haven't figured it out yet because you have been of no help - The disk was used, but still in the plastic it originally came in: IE, someone bought it and eventually returned it, and I bought it for a dollar or two less than the original price. The idea of the question is that someone WITH a PS3 and the PS3 COPY of ELC could tell me whether or not they had the same problem, how they may have fixed it, and if I was doing something wrong.

Mkey, I never promised; you should be the one leaving since it's my thread, you're the agitator, and offer no good advice about a PS3 game. It's obvious you have a bias against consoles. YOUR FIRST POST ASKED ME WHAT MY COMPUTER SPECS WERE, and the title says PS3, the OP says PS3. You don't read posts at all; you just assume you know everything and then call someone dumb when you annoy them. f*ck off.

Sounds like an adieu to me.

Only a moron would tie a honest random mistake with their little idiotic schemes - about 99.5% topics started here are PC related, I respond to about a dozen everyday, I overlooked a three letter word in the title, shoot me. If my memory serves me well, I have already apologized for that mistake. Not to mention that this issue usually arises on slower PCs, where people try to play on low end machines, I wouldn't normally connect it with a console.

I'll try to address you as a half literate semi intelligent individual one last time - even if I don't own a console, I have a fairly good idea of how one works. You insert the game disk, push the power switch button, the console fires up and you are greeted by a menu and are ready to start the game. This process may be interrupted by an update prompt, for either the game or the console OS itself. Once the update has completed, you are free to play. Now, which part of this procedure allows you to actually choose or change anything? The only choice is the size of game install on HDD and even that only with some games. This is a console, it's designed to be simple to operate, hard to fix, not open for any type of editing whatsoever (look the name of George Holtz if this sounds "biased").

Also, I do hope you realize we do not actually OWE you anything. This is not an official forum and you're just a random person on the net whom we're not affiliated to in any way.

You have a lot of words and insults for a guy without any information. You never give good advice, and you're always quick to call someone dumb for opposing you.

Well, Mr. Genius, you're on a board with tons of people who post regularly every day, and many people don't know each other even then. You could spend that time you try to "help" people with working on your lousy soccer game, or even, OH GOD NO, playing GTA? You're on here quite often, and obviously have a high opinion of yourself as a "big fish in a small pond."

Yeah, this is goodbye to you, because you won't get another response outta me. Read a book, brush your teeth, and eat your Wheaties: You forgot to this morning.

I do hope this IS the final goodbye.
