Drift-Kingz
Hi, so I just bought the Windows 7 CD after verifying that my computer is able to upgrade to it. So, I put the CD in, go through the setup process, and then Windows 7 begins to install. On the 3rd step (forget what it's called, I think it's 'Expanding Files' or something like that), it goes to 21%, and then an error appears. The error says: Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation. It also told me to restart the installer. I do that, and the same f*cking error keeps coming up. 21%, Expanding files, ALL THE TIME. I tried rebooting my computer, ending processes and applications, putting the disk in a different drive, and the error still persists. Is there something wrong with my hard drive maybe? Here are my computer specs: HP G60 Notebook PC Pentium® Dual Core CPU [email protected] 2.0 gigahertz RAM: 3 GB, DDR2 Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (Home Premium) 32 Bit Operating system Please, I highly prefer 7 over Vista. Adler
Maybe you don't have enough disk space for the setup to store its files.
Drift-Kingz
Maybe you don't have enough disk space for the setup to store its files. I have a 3 gig hard drive with 57.3 gigs left. Windows 7 requires 16. I have enough space...
Wolf68k
Are you trying to do an update install or a clean install?

Is there any chance you're using Folder Lock? Any reason the Windows 7 upgrade would stop at 21% for at least 3 people because of this program is beyond me, but it can't just be a coincidence. Drift-Kingz
@Adler - I'm not using Folder lock at all. But I was looking on the website you directed to me and I saw one person saying that he used TuneUp Registry. I'll try that. @Wolf - Update install. Before I got the CD, I used windows 7 upgrade advisor. It verified that I was able to upgrade.
Wolf68k
Then I would have to suggest trying to do a clean install. This shouldn't affect the protected partition, hopefully but also don't quote me. Just in case, while you're backing up your files you have to have and can't leave without, go to HP's website and get the drivers for everything then do the clean install. Don't worry if you bought an upgrade disc, just read this and learn how to get around that. I had to use method #2.
d00d
Expanding on what wolf68k said, its generally better to do a clean install than an upgrade. Your computer will run faster, remnants of old programs and files will be wiped and it all counts to a much cleaner, faster and secure operating system.
