GTA IV - License Problem (Really mad here!)

Hello everybody,

 

Ok, here's the short version. I've been playing GTA IV and EFLC for years now without problems. The games installed and ran perfectly fine from day one.

 

A few days ago, while working on my computer, I get an "error on hard disk" message. So I let Windows recovery do its "magic" and fix my computer as best as it can. All programs seem to run fine though some icons and folders are transparent and the files inside them are also transparent as a result of this incident. But, for the most part my computer is running fine.

 

But now both GTA IV games won't work. Because of a "license problem". The specific message I get is:

 

Lizenzdaten konnten nicht geschrieben werden.

License data cannot be written.

 

This is weird. So I uninstall both games and just reinstall GTA IV in the hopes that the game will work again.

 

It doesn't. I still get this bullsh*t license crap. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? Oh, and during the reinstallation process, the game never asked me for the serial code.

 

I've been googling for answers but the information out there is pretty vague and frankly, unhelpful.

 

 

This is the best answer I could find, but it doesn't help me. I am not sure what exactly I am supposed to delete.

GLAMBRO IS RIGHT! Finally,after so many attempts and tones of research,I've managed to reinstall GTA. A small step for me,a huge step for humanity smile.gif) So,if you have the securom license problem when trying to uninstall gta IV in order to reinstall,use spy bot, advanced mode, tools, uninstall info and just delete the gta entry. THANKS A LOT GLAMBRO!!

 

 

Here's a screenshot of my spybot advanced mode and this is the only GTA entry I could find. Am I supposed to delete this?

 

 

 

I would really appreciate some detailed help because I love playing GTA IV. It helps me relax after a hard and stressful day at work and this license problem is pure bullsh*t that nobody needs.

 

I'm running Windows Vista 64.

UPDATE!

 

Well, now the game will "start", at least the first two seconds. When I insert the CD and start the game in offline mode (because I cannot for some reason connect to the Rockstar Social Club site...), the black page with the white Rockstar typeface will load - and then the game crashes.

 

I'm really getting fed up here. Why the hell can't these things run reliably after one reinstalls them!?

Why the hell do you expect GTA to work normally on a system that is unstable and has probably a significant amount of files and registry entries missing?

 

You will need to investigate the hard drive error you have been getting (starting from stating the EXACT error you were shown) and probably install fresh OS after fixing the issue as the recovery feature does not lead to a stable system. GTA is the least of your worries right now.
