Rockstar are in a quite difficult postion here and that Rockstar might even need to go for a character completely different to anything we have ever seen before so that moral choices make a lot more sense.

Finn 7 five 11
The problem with a linear storyline with no choices is that ITS PREDICTABLE. For example you would know 5 to 10 missions before the end what might/will happen. That makes it boring. At the beginning you would know if you will go into war with a family, someone important dies, you kill the enemy, blah blah blah the end. Thats crap and is what majority of linear stories are like.

Having choices means that you can chose what the outcome is, it makes the story a lot less predictable, makes you feel like you are actually controlling what is happening ( and not just some game character doing a scripted event) and you feel more engaged.

Thats why i personally want their to be choices in the story.

Also imagine the replay value if their was more choices. Imagine a game that actually giving you your moneys worth? would be great right?

A story with no choices is predictable? how does a choice make it any more/less predictable? You have watched a movie once im assuming, we don't control a movie plot do we? its not about what happens its about how it happens, The Green Mile is a perfect example of that, They are all on death row, what do you think is going to happen? That doesn't ruin the story. Have you ever watched a good vs evil movie? We can guess right at the beginning that the good guy is probably going to win but we still watch the movie.

Choices don't necessarily let us choose what the outcome is, not an informed choice unless you go read what happens afterwards which ruins the story anyway, we can change the outcome but we don't control exactly what happens.

Depends on what you mean by getting your moneys worth, i think all games are worth how much they charge to someone, see for me paying $100 for Grand Theft Auto is fine, i am happy to part with the money and enjoy myself.

If there was loads of choices i doubt i would be getting my moneys worth since that is not what i want, the more choices there are chances are the lower the quality of the overall story, i wouldn't replay a game to try the different choices anyway, i picked the choices i did for a reason.

However i am not against different ways of finishing missions that start and end the same whichever way you do it, like some of the car chases in IV, the car was indestructible and went super fast (faster than a car like that should) and it eventually crashed in a scripted location and you had to have a shoot-out, well (as an example) you should be able to run them off the road earlier by shooting tires out but there is still a shootout.

In GTA IV we had a major choice to make which, would decide the end of the game. I would rather have that type of choice occur in the middle of the game. Then the story will either go left or right.

What I was talking about is Ambiguos moral choices, choices that have no clear good answer, its like trying to make a good choice in a situation that is mostly bad. Going to Fallout 3 now, in the PITT expansion you are giving a choice: Kidnapping a child in order for a group of slaves find a cure for a disease they are afflicted with, OR, killing the leader of the slaves to protect the child from being takin from her parents. non of these are holy rightous choices, and the player is forced to weigh the good of the many with the fate of a single child. thats the kind of choice that forces people to think and it is the kind of choices devlopers like Rockstar should strive to deliver. wink.gif

I would like a game where the choices you make affect the rest of the game. I think this is what Rockstar will go for. How about a game where if you fail the mission, you fail, and you don't get paid. The person you're trying to kill gets away, and now you are the target.

RDR expanded upon this concept and it was quite interesting, and IMO it leads to better replay value of the storyline when you can play it several different ways. I hope it's further expanded upon.

"You tell me exactly what you want, and I'll explain to you very carefully why it cannot be."
