I know i did quite a lot of things they wont succeed with. Granted they had some good things but they had to many bad moves which is going to effect them.

So how do you feel about the new 2011 Budget

C'mon Gaz, I know this is general chat but can't you find a better outlet for your Tory bashing than gta forums? I'd imagine most people here don't give a sh*t.

There's already a thread on it in the D&D section.

For all you Brits, it's budget day. Been listening to it live on the radio, a few very interesting areas (for me, anyway) have cropped up.

1) They seem to be (finally) combining income tax and national insurance. Why this hasn't been done previously, I have no idea, as to me it's utterly illogical to have two forms of tax, calculated and administrated in totally different ways, on the same form of income. Of course, it will only apply to those in work and income from other sources won't suddently be subject to national insurance too.

2) Tax cuts for small and start-up type businesses, primarily from a planned (and siginficant) reduction in corperation tax. With all the talk of businesses being pushed out of the UK (or discouraged from coming entirely) by the high costs of operating in the UK, this seems pretty logical as a way of encouraging growth. The cut is counterbalanced in the financial services industry by an increase in the bank levy on operating profits.

3) The increase in costs to non-domiciles who are living in the UK but do not pay tax in it- the existing system means that those with non-dom status pay £30,000 after 7 years, the new proposal increases that to £50,000 after 12.

Oh, and I can't exactly complain about 1p off the price of petrol and the scrapping of April's 5p/l price increase.

Fancy justifying your position? You claim that there are "bad moves" in it and that other bits "wont' succeed", care to give any examples? Or are you just going to do your usual and ignore anyone who criticizes or questions your comments?

@OB- Actually they've cut a few big things in terms of taxation. The only thing to go up was the bank levy- fuel duty and corperation tax have both gone down, and the maximum tax-free income allowance has gone up about 15% too. Just goes to show that making blanket statements based on personal political prejudice backfires. wink.gif

Was just watching Newsnight, Jesus Christ does Danny Alexander seem out of his depth. Wondering how long they're gonna use this "cleaning up Labour's mess" line.

He would have been far better as Secretary for Work and Pensions (or whatever they've changed it to for this week), or for Scotland. Still, it's going to take years to clean up Labour's mess- it's pretty hard to argue with the severity of the damage the previous administration did to the cost-effectiveness of the public sector.

I watched it as well but what I found amusing was Paxman's seeming inability to grasp the concept of a 'forecast '.

1p saving gets me exactly 40p off when filling up. Not worth it in the slightest in my opinion. Should of dropped it even more.

Technically, it's 6p off as the fuel duty was set to rise at 1p more than the rate of inflation on April 1st. So in reality it's saved you about £3 a fill-up. It seems small but it's mostly psychological- the fact that one garage near where I live has dropped below the magic £1.30 marker is encouraging.

The government gets a lot of blame for the price of fuel, and yes, the fuel duty is expensive in this country. But the majority of the blame lays at the door of the oil companies, who rapidly escalate their prices the moment crude oil becomes margainally more expensive, and then are slow to take it down once the price falls. They're also making some biblical profits, particularly on diesel.

Care to answer my earlier question rather than posting pointless interjections?

I'll even repeat it for you.

What is this? For someone who proclaims to be a political commentator, you're not very eloquent at all. Those two sentences don't actually mean anything. It's a motherf*cking linguistic nightmare.

I know i did lots poop on toilet that she willnt succeed in granted much many bad moves when is going to effect it.

You're just throwing words around.

Been too busy doing uni work and relaxing in down time to really go through the budget, any news on booze prices?

Oh, and sivi, surely you've learned by now not to even bother arguing with Mr Willmer? Every time I make a point in one of his threads I wonder if I'm the only one who sees my posts.

Okay you asked for it

Thatcher Era

Poll Tax Riots

Milk abolishment

Welfare Cuts

Cameron Era

Millibank Riots

Welfare Cuts

Student Protests

Not rocket science is it to see how the budget will fail its exactly the same as what was proposed in the thatcher era?

Can you point to specific things in the budget that you feel are 'bad moves' and things 'they wont succeed with' and justify why you feel this.

Similar symptoms =/= similar problems.

I could have terrible recurring cases of sharp stomach pains, causing me to black out with every attack. That could either mean I'va bursting stomach ulcer or just like to each gassy foods. You can't say "there were cuts and riots back then, and there are cuts and riots now therefore these things are the same". There were riots in the UK a few months back but you don't see anyone comparing David Cameron to Hosni Mubarak do you?

(Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, I don't know sh*t about what stomach ulcers feel like.)

This.

I give up trying to educate you. Gareth. It's clear that you are utterly moronic, completely deluded and fail to have obtained even the vaguest grasp of politics or economics. That someone your age still has such a misinformed and downright childish view on the issue is a testament to how sh*t the education system in this country it.

To that extent, I suggest you research before you post, take in some points of view that aren't nit-picked from the idiots who comment on the MSN forum boards or who write in the Daily Mirror, and most importantly, stop trying to pretend you have even the vaguest clue what you are talking about. You don't, and the more you post, the stupider you look.
