spaz187
So everyone knows that you shouldn't have sex until you are eighteen, but how about GTA? There are prostitutes in GTA, so if a nine year old plays GTA and the character that he's controlling has sex with one of the prostitutes, isn't that almost like the nine year old is having sex? I think it's child abuse to let anyone under ten play GTA. Actually, *I* shouldn't even be playing it, but it's so fun, I can't stop. How old do you think you have to be before you kill someone? In some countries, it's OK to go to war and kill someone when you're 18, but it's not OK to drink alcohol until you're 21. Killing is OK, alcohol, not OK. You can handle killing another person, but kick-back and have a few cold-ones? Yeah right! Keep dreaming. Sorry if this is another banned topic. So, can someone tell me... what the f*ck *are* we allowed to post about here? My last topic was locked, which is pretty f*cking bogus if you ask me. I thought this was "general" chat. Is there a description around here about what I can and cannot talk about, because this forum is starting to piss me off. No offense.
Finn 7 five 11
Im pretty sure sex is nothing like watching the car rock back and forth in some game you clearly have not had sex, most 9 year olds are aware of sex (in australia anyway) so its no new concept, if anything the prostitutes are just something to laugh at when you play if you are 9. By the way its not child abuse letting a kid play GTA unless you forced them to, i played GTA when i was like 10 and i turned out mostly ok, i wouldn't let a 7 year old play GTA, but when a kid is 10years old the should be able to understand what a game is. i knew Pokemon was a game when i started playing it when i was like 7-8. Each to their own opinion though. P.S bashing the forum is a good way to get your topics locked, this topic seems valid though, your other topic was probably of little use, when you stop being a noob here and quit bitching about why some topic you made got locked you might realize that it wasn't a useful topic and go "thats why it was locked" Edited March 23, 2011 by finn4life
XTREME0235
So everyone knows that you shouldn't have sex until you are eighteen. Actually unless you are living in Australia, the age of consent for having sex is 16. Rather useless information that you most likely won't remember in about an hour or 2. GTA 360
Stupid regulations make them put age restrictions on games, if you want the game and you're underaged just get your parents to buy it for you, always works.

GTA 360
Don't you think it's strange that the game is rated 18 (16 in Australia I believe) yet this forum is rated 13?
Toup
How can you get mentally deformed after playing a game with violence, drug reference and sex? I started playing at 8 and, let's say i'm more mature and conscient than some kids with my age. Plus, i am able to speak decent english, it's not perfect but you can understand me. So, yeah... I pretty much learned english playing the so called "bad games for children under 16 thatmakethemstartkillingpeople".
zeppelincheetah
I'd say at least 13. I started playing GTA when I was 14 or 15 but back then it was still top-down and the violence was still kinda cute. SQUISH SQUISH SQUISH! My little brother started playing when he was 13, and this is around the time San Andreas came out. I was really hesitant to let him play because I was being a good older brother making sure he's not playing something he shouldn't but I decided he could handle it at 13. DX2069
wait a min who the hell waits till they are 18 to have sex???? most ppl have had alot of sex before they are 18. and i think that anyone should be allowed to play gta no matter how old you are. altho i do hate annoying little kids online
Vega LVI
Rockstar called it for making it 17+. But, that makes no difference as children ask their parents to purchase it for them, therefore the 17+ rule does not apply.
Carbonox
Well, I kind of have to say that 9 is okay, because that's the age when I started with Vice City, although some people would probably not be mature enough in that age (not bragging about my maturity or anything). I never got any negative feelings, however - guess I immediately knew that it was just a game and the people in it were not real. Sex wasn't a problem either, so I guess I sort of 'earned' the right to play the game... right?
The Notorious MOB
I would say 12 or so. In saying that though I wouldn't sell a GTA game to anybody under 18.. its kind of frowned upon in my place of work.
Mati
My cousin played it first as he was 6. He was beating everyone up in the red light district. My uncle (his father) told me to not make him play this game cause it's too brutal. I still could play it though. I was 11 back in the day. Good times. T.Rez
Age is just a number in certain cases (I'm not a pedofile), but if a kid shows s/he's mature enough then I think they should be allowed to play it. I was about 11 when I first played GTA, it never messed me up.
Algonquin Assassin
I started with GTA when I was 12, and now I'm 25. GTA never screwed my mind when I was growing up. I don't think there's one specific answer. Basically when you're ready I guess. That's why I've never really understood when games, and movies are classified according to age. If someone is 14 then they turn 15 they are legally allowed to buy a M15+ game/movie, but what's to say their maturity has changed? I would say a large majority of GTA players started off with GTA under the targeted age. Edited March 25, 2011 by Miamivicecity
bobgtafan
10ish is a good age, most children can handle violence well and they see it everywhere anyway. The only thing that might be iffy is the sexual content, but that made me laugh as a child more than anything.
dannyz
Old enough to hold the controller. Yes. I think I started playing it when I was 7 and I am 17 so its been a Great Decade of Sex/Drugs/Violence GTA ALL DAY.
CryptReaperDorian
@spaz187: That always pissed me off how I was able to go big game hunting when 12, and I'm able to kill people I don't like when I'm 18 as long as it's a war (or "conflict" like they say today). However, alcohol is something I can't use until I'm 21. Anyways, back on topic. I believe I first played GTA (GTA VC to be exact) when I was 9 or 10 (most likely 10). I really think that's a good age to start playing GTA.

And eat crack, right? I don't think there is any specific line that you need to cross in order to play GTA. It's more important if you're mentally mature enough to understand it's just a game. I played GTA when I was 13 and I'm not a murdering and raping thief, but if someone already got some mental problems it doesn't matter if he is 10 or 30. Some switch can flip in his head anytime, triggered by any stimulus (movie, game or dumping by a girl for example) forcing him to kill people on the street. Younger players of these games, just don't know about some things (like prostitutes or drugs), so they won't see anything specific there. I also believe that youngs are mostly driving and doing stupid things instead of completing missions, so they rather won't be affected by the storyline. I wish people would realise that it takes a sick f*ck to go out and shoot people to begin with, it has to be there, waiting, lying dormant before they ever pick up a game. GTA doesn't brainwash people, it's not MK Ultra, so it does not directly cause half the crimes we hear about - i think the argument of such is ignorant and nothing more then looking for a scapegoat. Some people are just psychos, a game, a song etc can never be anything more then a trigger. These so called lawyers and what have you that claim otherwise are just plain stupid. The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. Click here to view my Poetry

Rhoda
I started at 12 with GTA III, me and my cousin used to spend time just driving around in stolen cars and not even attempting the missions. Getting police attention was a downside as all we wanted to do was explore. It wasn't until I got Vice City a couple of years later that I took it seriously, or as serious as you can take a man in a blue Hawaiian shirt riding a chopper. I didn't really pay much mind to the violent and sexual content. If I'm honest, I knew a lot of it already and that which I didn't know I just didn't understand. As long as it isn't teaching kids anything new and harmful, I don't see the problem. Starting at 11 is no real problem if they understand that it stays in the game. I didn't really pick up anything from the game that I'm applying to real life.
