Rockstar is working on a game for the NGP

Sorry if this has already been posted, but according to the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine, it's been confirmed that Rockstar is one of the development studios working on a title for the NGP (a.k.a. the PSP2), Sony's next-gen handheld. I'm not sure if this means that we'll see a new GTA title, but if it does end up that way, then I'm pretty sure it won't be a San Andreas Stories as Rockstar is done with the GTA III era.

If they are then I disagree with you, it's very likely to be SAS, also when did they say they were done with the III era?

Oh yeah and this has been posted a couple of times before.

It was in Official PlayStation Magazine (May 2007), GTA 4 UK Exclusive where Dan Houser said that the world of GTA III isn't over, but they have moved on from it.

There is absolutely no reason for them to make SAS. The year before SA is already well documented in The Introduction. There is no story to tell that hasn't been told.

Well I'd say that backs up what I'm saying

the world of GTA III isn't over, but they have moved on from it.

Leaves them free to re-open the world, and what do you mean there's no story that hasn't been told, you can pretty much take any SA character and invent a back story for them, for instance you could play as The Truth, set in the 60's and follow along that route, or you could play as Kent Paul after the events of SA in working your way to the top, or even from the top to the bottom and back up again. Or a completely different new III era character!

Now this would be incredible if they went back to the III era, this is sad but i think i would rather another III era game than a new girlfriend.

Wow, i really am a nerd now.

There is a set style to the Stories games. They were telling how things got the way they did in the main game. That was also the point of "The Introduction".

Basically the only story they could possibly do for a true "San Andreas Stories" would be playing as the Ballas introducing all the drugs into the GSF, setting up the split up of the Families and the beginning of San Andreas. This would introduce other problems as the Ballas never leave Los Santos, so the other cities would be unnecessary. Almost none of the factions in San Andreas left their basic area, so a proper story with one protagonist would almost ruin SA with all the retconing.

Hardly, Vic Vance was only seen briefly in the intro of VC and he's killed, Toni is a mission giver in III there's no real correlation or pattern there, the only set style is taking a character from the main game who wasn't a playable character and making them one. And I for one hope if we see a SAS that it will be nothing to do with gang banging or the like. (Not that that would stop be buying and playing it tounge.gif)

It would make sense. As soon as i heard rumors that the london based rockstar was hiring for a multiplyer coder the people responsible for the City stories series i thought there was going to be a new handheld version in the works.

It's so silly people keep on believing in SAS. I'm not a moderator, and properly never will be. But if I was, anyone who even mentioned GTA SAS would be baned.

True, I probably wont become a mod. But actually this is a dictatorship, what else should it be. We don't vote about things. We don't get to know about a lot of things. We are allowed to comment, but that is pretty much it.

Maybe its a 'GTA4 Stories' like game. Like the ....Stories series but made of GTA 4. Im not sure but i heard somewhere that NGP should be somewhere about X360's level(not sure on that one, dont flame. correct me if im wrong but dont flame. i didnt kill your parents with this post cry.gif )

And if that is true then maybe it would be a portable GTA 4.

i dont think they would put the next GTA on the PSP2 unless they put it on consoles at the same time. They know that they would never make near as much money with it on something that most gamers wont have. xbox 360 and PS3 are at the top right now so you would assume that they would put it on one or both.

I like GTA and Saints Row

There is absolutely no reason for them to make SAS.

I can think of one pretty good reason. San Andreas is the highest selling GTA ever. Loads of fans have been screaming for a San Andreas Stories for years. The reason for Rockstar making SAS? It would be insanely popular and sell like hotcakes.

Of all the places an NGP game could revisit, San Andreas is easily the most likely. Why? Because it would generate the most excitement by a mile. A SAS is very likely. Now it wouldn't necessarily be the same SA we had before, but a new take on San Andreas is more than likely.

Actually The Introduction only explained why CJ came back to Los Santos. And although it is explained why he left Los Santos it's never explained in detail. The only info we have about CJ leaving LS is that he was involved in his little brothers death. There is so much to expand on after CJ left.

@Anasterian: Actually the NGP is on par with the PS3. If you haven't seen the Uncharted Tech demo I suggest you watch it as it looks a lot like Uncharted 1.

Not a good video but it outlines some of the specs and shows off some of the nice lighting in Uncharted Portable.

Sony pays them for exclusive PSP2 release.

Everyone buys PSP2 for it and game sells like hot cakes.

While that is true, they would have to go back into the 80s for this, and 80s Los Santos isn't a game that's going to be made. Also, a San Andreas Stories wouldn't focus on CJ or his family.

That's exactly what I don't want to hear. But maybe, just maybe, if it's nothing like CTW (and more like VCS/LCS) I'll get me a PSP2 and buy it. How much is the NGP expected to cost?

What? Lol. Why not? Jesus Christ...

I very much doubt they're going to develop a San Andreas Stories; one very important reason being that the technology in games has improved a lot since San Andreas so not only will the visual style not transition well (new engine makes for building a different map and visual style so it won't be a true GTA III-era game), but there would be no story to tell. Liberty City Stories didn't just follow "an NPC's story", it showed us how the Leone Family took control of Liberty City. And Vice City Stories showed us how the Vance brothers took control of Vice City. San Andreas? What other notable character in the story traveled around the whole state other than CJ to fulfill some epic quest? That's right, you don't have an answer. The Introduction was your San Andreas Stories so stop f***ing asking Rockstar to make something that they're not obligated to go through with. I'm pretty sure Rockstar's intention with San Andreas was to make it so big that it wouldn't need a Stories-like prequel. They work on establishing different eras with each generation of consoles and, that being said, as much as I love the GTA III era of games, they've obviously moved on. Now why is it that you guys can't understand that?

If I were going to comment this is pretty much what I'd say so I'll just quote it.

The idea that R* is somehow bound by a blood oath to honor the narrative finality of the last-gen GTA games is absurd. A lot of people here are like borderline Trekkie in how they think the storyline of the games somehow dictate business decisions.

Anyway, I just hope the recent info we've assumed is related to GTAV isn't actually part of a friggin' handheld game.

If you guys actually saw footage of the Uncharted game running on the NGP, which I saw in a trailer downloaded from the PlayStation Store today, you wouldn't be complaining about handhelds.

You have to keep in mind that most of the games for the NGP, like the Killzone working title, are still under development so the finished products will look much better. But I think the Uncharted footage looks gorgeous. But I really don't think that Rockstar, if they are working on a GTA title for the NGP, if not something else, will start out with a map the size of a state. It would call for a much longer development cycle. You're also forgetting that first-gen titles (think of Liberty City Stories for the PSP) are blown away in comparison to titles developed many years later (i.e. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker).

If you mean memory as ram, it should have plenty, it would be stupid if it didn't run games properly.

If you mean memory as in Harddrive space, it may not even have a harddrive, everything runs off the catridge.

How can you assume memory is going to be a problem before we know exactly what is in the PSP2 or how powerful it is?
