Which do you think works better?

I really like how Red Dead Redemption rewarded you with attaining different costumes in the game: by exploring areas, completing certain tasks, and even through the mini-games (beating everyone in a game of Poker or arm-wrestling). It left you with a great sense of accomplishment afterwards. In most GTA games, you would just complete a mission and that was it. What do you think?

Sure why not. When playing any GTA game I often do a lot of exploring anyway just to see what interesting little bits I can come across. To get a reward for doing this in the form of a new outfit would be nice, especially if it looks cool.

For example, let's say that you want to get an orange prison uniform like the one Claude started out with in GTA III. Not sure what the special ability would be -- maybe it'll max out your stamina or not let you lose any money when you get arrested.

The requirements to attain it would include: exploring a certain part of the city/state to attain a piece of the uniform, completing a mission that involves a bank robbery, getting arrested for the first time, losing the police on a 6-star wanted level (obviously without cheating), and winning a particular mini-game.

Would be a whole lot better than searching for packages or shooting pigeons, which iv never done its boring

Hm, gaining some sort of special ability from an outfit isn't something I had in mind, but it does sound interesting. Of course some would argue how could an outfit provide such things, but it's only a game and I'd like rewards like this. But everyone has differing opinions on such things.

Like finding a fire retardant suit at a fire station. Would've been great to have while doing something like drug wars from TBOGT, how they sometimes had molotovs they'd hit you with. God I hated that!

You could also be immune from explosions. Walk out of that flaming wreckage of a vehicle as if nothing happened! biggrin.gif

But then there's no sense of achieving it...

I want the Paramedic, Firefighter, Taxi, etc. side missions back with rewards that you get after completing them (plus an achievement of course).

Well I think that might be going a bit too far. lol Unless they make something like that extremely hard to unlock.

Yeah, I was just kidding with that one.

I want that to, but not the III era style, more with a change like they did with vigilante in IV, because I hated it in III ....... it was on time and if u failed u had to do everything from the beginning.

Some outfits with extreme bonuses (immunity to explosions mentioned....) or funny functions (makes you immune to melee damage ONLY) should require a lot of things, + beating the story line.

the concept of RDRs reward outfits was great - it was fun to unlock them (except Legend of the West. Killing bears and cougars with knives? No thanks) but what DID suck was how the coolest ones (marshal outfit, fed outfit etc were only available after completing the game, and you couldn't have a "plus one" mode with them all unlocked.

I like the idea of "earning" SOME outfits, but only if you can do them from mission 1.

Otherwise stick to the current shop system - which shouldnt be replace by the above.

I WOULD like to see a recolour option. I wanted a black suit, black tie, white shirt in IV - couldnt (xbox). Being able to recolour the outfits would be cool.

I never want to see unlockables that you only get late in the game again. Unlocking things as you play the game's cool, but i'd like to see a +1 OPTION so i can have it all to begin with on my next play through.

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

You'll still be able to buy clothes in regular shops. I'm simply suggesting an extra feature that would reward players with certain outfits that you can only attain by, apart from exploring certain areas, completing a select number of specific tasks.

I liked being able to get fireproof and maxing out health through ambo missions and armor from vigilantes, but the old style was pretty cool, the new style was a bit easy for most missions, i liked the timed version, that was just me though.

If you could save the level you were up to that would be great.

yeah that's cool. As i said, the problem i have is when you unlock an outfit so damned late in the game you can't do anything with it, i.e on 100% completion. I have very little interest in playing on after that point, i usually start a new game, so any outfits that i gotta work to unlock should be obtainable very early in the game smile.gif

And not have you do any CRAZY things like, in RDR, fight a cougar with a knife. That was frustrating.

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

I think this could work very well in GTA too.

For example, after completing enough of the Police Missions you could be awarded a police uniform for your wardrobe. An advantage of using it could be that you don't attract petty 1-star wanted levels, such as fender-benders with other police cars and when beating civilians ph34r.gif

Same goes for Paramedic missions (assuming they make a return), although I'm not sure what an advantage would be from wearing scrubs.

I think they should have passive and active rewards. for example, completed (for example) level 10 of the paramedics missions would reward you with increased health and a paramedics suit, which when worn would mean eating at Burger Shot etc would refill your health to 200%, whereas without the suit, the food refill maxes out at 150%.

The taxi missions were fun in the GTA III era because of how they were timed, the handling was unrealistic, and how much money you could earn with each fare based on how fast you were, which reminded me a little of Crazy Taxi. I wasn't a big fan of the paramedic, vigilante, and firefighter missions, though. But let's say that you complete 10 fares in a row, you're rewarded with a tricked-out taxi. Maybe even a safehouse trophy. You had all sorts of trophies in Vice City (and Bully). It would be nice if they brought that back.

I agree, I actually prefer the "SET COSTUMES" to the make your own in San Andreas and GTA IV, the set costumes always matches the characters style and how they'd wear it, and unlocking extra costumes for doing tasks would be better than GTA IV's nothing (well, Achievement/Trophy, but that's OUTSIDE the game).

I agree on how Bully had exceptional trophies such as costumes, I really liked the room decorations as you rogressed through the story. But I personally would be too lazy to do a sh*tload of missions and side missions to actually earn the special items. I think they should be given to you when finishing the missions. For such things of huge value such as safehouses and fireproof clothing would require a difficult challenge, then I would think it's ok to do a sh*tload of missions and side missions. But for simple clothing items why don't we just earn them after missions?

Well, I just meant the room trophies.

Because these aren't just simple clothing items that we're talking about. Remember that they can help enhance the gameplay. I don't mean to imply that all of the special outfits would take a long time to unlock. Some of them, depending on the ability they give to the player, can range from 3 tasks to 10 tasks, if not one very tough task.
