Linki
It adds so much to the atmosphere, I love it. Anyone else notice it?
_Rob_
You mean the background loop of cars and other city noises?
Claude Speed.
It's actually the sound of the subway train. Yeah, I love it as well!
WhistleBlower
Some of the lines from the NPCs also have this echo effect. For example, the pimp dressed in purple and the guy who yells, "My money, my problems!" at the Red Light District in Portland.
_Rob_
Yeah I always wondered why they echoed like that but it does sound cool
Linki
The sound design is pretty trippy, actually. Remember those weird murmurs in Misty's apartment?

_Rob_
They certainly made more use of environmental sounds, like near Sex Club 7 you head muffled music from inside when you were close, Sal mansion had that jazz music etc, I wonder why they never really continued that throughout other games? Linki
It sort of came back in 4. But in 3 it was lot more noticeable.
_Rob_
Yeah, the shames of it is they could have really used it in a lot of places, for instance outside the Malibu club and outside the stadium in VC.

I think it would have been really cool if you could hear the sounds of a game in progress with fans cheering and whatnot in the football stadium on Staunton Island. Linki
I really like how the shops and buildings feel more than just 2D pictures. Like you can see stairs behind some of the doors or the sewers under the pavement grates. These things give the impression of a deeper world. Fake depth, but depth nonetheless. WhistleBlower
I really like how the shops and buildings feel more than just 2D pictures. Like you can see stairs behind some of the doors or the sewers under the pavement grates. These things give the impression of a deeper world. Fake depth, but depth nonetheless. I love that as well. But there's this one area in the Red Light District that looks a little off. I believe it's a window you can look through near the same set of stairs that you climb up in the mission to kill Sal. Filip
Yes, and personally I don't like GTA IV for it's sounds GTA III is much better in that view. Game is programmed to the best. Starting from graphics, ending at music.
q_b
Yeah, the shames of it is they could have really used it in a lot of places, for instance outside the Malibu club and outside the stadium in VC. There was music outside Malibu, but I don't remember if you heard all the time, maybe only during the night. The music outside actually synced with the music inside.
